Newbury & Fairyhouse Racing Tips - GG Lucky 15 Tips for Wednesday 14 January

Four meetings are set to go to post on Wednesday across Britain and Ireland, as the cold spell’s punishing weather has been vanquished for the time being.

With every card looking competitive, it is to the jumps meetings at Newbury and Fairyhouse that we look to for our lucky 15 best bets across the day.

Newbury Racing Tips (Wednesday 14 January 2026)

The seven-race card at Newbury on Wednesday is headlined by a Listed mares’ chase, but with that contest containing a heavy odds-on favourite, our two selections come in a pair of class 4 handicaps.

2.05 Newbury – Rule Me In (1pt win – 10/1)

A more competent chasing performance from Rule Me In would give Christian Williams’ charge an excellent chance off a declining mark now that he goes back up in trip over fences. The seven-year-old disappointed when first tried at just below 3m at Chepstow over hurdles, but two late blunders took the wind out of his sails, while he may have needed the run after 227 days off anyway. He has since shaped with promise despite heavy deficits in defeat at both Bangor and Windsor over 2m4f on his first two chase starts, with late blunders or trouble in running ensuring he could not challenge at the business end. This longer trip should ensure he settles into a better jumping rhythm, which we know is possible based on his point-to-point form, in which he was second to a subsequent Dan Skelton novice hurdle winner in December 2024.

2.40 Newbury – Top Guy (1pt win – 5/1)

The penny dropped only in the closing stages for Top Guy at Aintree last month, but it did so to the extent that it’s difficult to believe he will not come on plenty for that success here. Dan Skelton’s winning pointer was well-held on his first five races over hurdles, much like he took some time in the pointing sphere to record his first win, but when that came, it arrived in style by ten lengths. Almost exactly a year on, he recorded his first hurdles win at Aintree, knuckling down in the closing stages under a strong drive from Trisan Durrell to land the odds over 3m½f on soft. His point win came on good ground though, so he should be versatile in that regard and is only up 5lb. Given he could now prove very progressive, that looks lenient enough for him to win again even in this very competitive 17-runner contest.

Fairyhose Racing Tips (Wednesday 14 January 2026)

Fairyhouse’s card failed to beat the weather on Saturday, but the rearranged action boasts a Grade 3 handicap highlight. One of our selections in Ireland runs in that feature race too.

2.15 Fairyhouse – Blood Destiny (1pt win – 9/2)

Although he has never been rated higher than his current mark of 152, Blood Destiny has some past form which suggests he is more than capable of defying this mark in handicap company. Defeats of Heart Wood and Spillane’s Tower in his novice chasing season point to how useful he is on his day, while he has failed to finish outside of the first three in open company since the start of last season. He has flattered to deceive at Graded level, though he was third behind two very progressive rivals at Gowran Park at the start of this season, with both the winner, Western Fold, and more notably the runner-up, Affordale Fury, going on to even better things more recently. A strongly run 2m1f here could really play to his strengths and Fairyhouse has suited in the past, while he is also the choice of Paul Townend among four Willie Mullins declarations.

3.25 Fairyhouse – Jacovec Cavern (1pt win – 8/1)

Paul Hennessy has won with two of his three chase runners this season and his small string can be relied upon to record another victory here with Jacovec Cavern. The selection is one of those two winners, scoring at Gowran Park last time out for what was a belated first win in 17 starts over obstacles. However, would have won a Cork handicap hurdle back in March but for turning over at the last, while he is also a 79-rated three-time winner on the flat. He had twice run well over timber in August and September, but looked an improved model when meeting fences for the first time and winning well at the start of November. The runner-up has been consistent enough since to suggest Jacovec Cavern has a chance of defying what is effectively a mark of 120 in this rated contest, as he has certainly threatened to improve beyond such a rating in the past.
