Six courses go racing on Saturday across Great Britain and Ireland. Though this weekend sits in the interim period between Cheltenham and Aintree, there is good quality racing on show.
Andrew Mount has four best bets for you to follow throughout Saturday. They race at Newbury and Navan in the afternoon.
Grosvenor have a fabulous welcome offer for horse racing punters. They are offering Double The Odds to a maximum £10 stake.
Newbury Racing Tips (Saturday 21 March 2026)
There is Grade 2 action at Newbury on Saturday, though Andrew looks elsewhere on the card for his best bets. He has three selections, including a course and distance specialist.
1.50 Newbury – Fresh Perspective (1.5pt win – 9/2 Coral, Ladbrokes, bet365)
Storming George has gone very week in the betting for this 2m3f novices’ handicap hurdle since I selected him for GG’s Weekend Watch on Thursday and, while I intend to save on Neil King’s six-year-old, I’m switching allegiance to Fresh Perspective who is a good trends-fit for this race. I wrote the following about Jamie Snowden’s six year-old in one of my weekly columns in December…
“FRESH PERSPECTIVE had taken his record on left-handed tracks to 111 (3-3) when scoring unchallenged in a Class 2 introductory hurdle at Wetherby last month and, while finishing a creditable 12-1 third of five to HURRICANE PAT in the Listed novices’ hurdle at Sandown on Saturday, he clearly didn’t enjoy the return to a right-handed venue, jumping out to his left on occasions. His only other run in this direction resulted in a 42-length defeat at Ascot and Jamie Snowden’s five-year-old could be a value play when next asked to race left-handed.”
…his next run, surprisingly, came on another right-handed track (Huntingdon, February 5th) where he was beaten by 38 lengths into fifth place, albeit behind Turners runner-up Act Of Innocence in a race that has worked out very well (the fourth won by five lengths next time, while the third won at Warwick and then ran fifth in the County Hurdle). He’s had wind surgery since that disappointment and, like the previous five winners of this race, arrives here after a break of more than one month.
2.25 Newbury – Heltenham (1pt win – 5/2 bet365, Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
Heltenham bounced back to form with a 20-1 course and distance success in the Class 1 Greatwood Handicap Chase late last month, taking his record at Newbury to 111821 (4-6). Dan Skelton’s nine-year-old also won this race two years ago on the back of victory in the Greatwood and can repeat the trick. Knappers Hill has a ten from 12 record in the warmer months (March to early November) for a profit pf £20.77 to a £1 level stake at SP and Paul Nicholls’ ten-year-old looks the chief threat.
4.45 Newbury – Makin’yourmindup (1pt win – 8/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
Paul Nicholls’ Makin’yourmindup started this season with form figures over obstacles on left-handed tracks of 111112 (5-6), with the defeat by a head. The nine-year-old could only finish fourth at Chepstow in early December on his return from a 615-day absence but that run was clearly needed and he was ridden patiently on a track where such tactics are rarely helpful. He was pulled up when 20-1 at Lingfield the following month but 3m5f in the mud wasn’t ideal and that run probably came too soon. He’s two from two at Newbury and is worth chancing to bounce back.
Navan Racing Tips (Saturday 21 March 2026)
Navan’s is the only meeting in Ireland on Saturday. Andrew’s tip on the card runs in a Listed novices’ handicap.
4.17 Navan – Magic McColgan (1pt e/w – 11/2 Paddy Power, 5/1 Sky Bet, both four places)
Magic McColgan tends to jump out to her left and she usually runs with credit when racing on left-handed tracks, recording form figures of 10622 (1-5), with the first defeat when 100-1 in Grade 2 company at the Cheltenham festival and the sixth place when 25-1 on her second chase start when still in need of the experience. The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old took a step forward on her handicap debut when second by half a length in a Listed handicap chase at Naas last month when we were on each-way (SP 11-1) and she should run another good race here with the soft ground in her favour.
