Newbury Racing Tips (Saturday 29 November 2025)

The racing at Newbury on Saturday features the Coral Gold Cup Handicap at 2.55pm among seven races over jumps.

2.55 Newbury – Myretown (1pt win – 5/1 William Hill, 9/2 generally)

Myretown, beaten on his point-to-point, bumper, hurdle and chase debuts, took his record aside from those runs to 1F11F11 (5-7) when making all to score by 11 lengths from The Changing Man in the Ultima Handicap Chase, going off as the 11-2 favourite from much bigger prices (advised in this column). Lucinda Russell’s eight-year-old clocked a fast time in the process and, having run off a mark of just 127 at the festival, could still prove to be well handicapped off today’s revised rating of 142. I’ll be playing him to beat The Changing Man in a straight forecast or Tote Exacta and will also be backing his old rival to finish exactly second with the firms offering that market. I was also interested in the Willie Mullins-trained O’Moore Park who has run well in both starts on left-handed tracks but the forecast 10mm of rain due on Saturday morning could put too much emphasis on stamina for the eight-year-old.

Newcastle Racing Tips (Saturday 29 November 2025)

The feature race at Newcastle on Saturday is the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle, though the meeting also features the Rehearsal Chase handicap.

12.15 Newcastle – Breizh River (1pt win – 12/1 bet365)

Hat-trick seeker Hello Judge holds obvious claims in this 2m4f handicap chase but I’d rather side with the Tristan Davison-trained Breizh River, who shaped well when third at Wetherby four weeks ago on his stable debut. The seven-year-old, who was returning to hurdles after his modest third in a Sedgefield handicap chase on his final outing for Paul Robson, kept on well after becoming outpaced to go down by four lengths at odds of 11-2. Davidson has a good record at the second time of asking with horses he takes over from other yard, with those who finished in the top five places on their stable debut winning 12 of their 36 starts for a profit of £5.88 to a £1 level stake at SP. The geldings were eight from 22 (+£9.00), with eight of the beaten horses also making the frame. I’ll save on Hello Judge and play him with the selection in a reversed forecast too.

12:15 Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow Handicap Chase (Go North Monet’s Garden Series Qual’) (GBB Race)

1.25 Newcastle – Zertakt (1pt win – 9/2 bet365)

Zertakt, a triple winner in his native France, has drawn a blank in six starts for Venetia Williams but has perhaps not been the easiest to train. The seven-year-old was off the track for 415 days after his disappointing effort in a Ffos Las handicap hurdle in January 2023 on his stable debut and another long break (269 days) followed his modest third of four in a novices’ handicap chase at Ludlow in March 2024 on his second outing for the yard. Things started to come together last season, with his four runs producing a four-length third of nine at Windsor, five-length 10-1 third of eight at Newbury, six-length 9-2 fourth of 11 at Windsor when stepped up to an extended 3m4f on soft ground and, at Newbury on March 1st,  a second place to Joe Tizzard’s Rivers Corner in the Jacky Upton Trophy (beaten by just under four lengths). The drop to 2m7.5f was clearly against him that day and he could run up a sequence in modest staying efforts this term when the mud is flying. His trainer has started the season slowly, but the dry autumn was probably to blame, and recent signs have been more encouraging.

13:25 BetMGM Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

3.15 Newcastle – Dare To Shout (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 generally)

This race looks very playable as Dan Skelton’s early favourite Deafening Silence has shown a preference for racing right-handed. Jasmin De Grugy has possibilities given Anthony Honeyball’s good record with break-returners at this time of year but, at a much bigger price, I’d rather take a chance on Ann Hamiton’s Dare To Shout. The eight-year-old could only finish a modest fourth at Kelso last time but that sharp track isn’t ideal (he’s 0-5 in handicaps there) and he’s best judged on his record on stiff tracks (e.g. Carlisle, Hexham and Newcastle) of 2115211 (4-7) for a profit of £9.63 to a £1 level stake at SP. The first runner-up effort can be excused as he jumped moderately on his hurdles debut (11-2) and the other came by just a length and a quarter at odds of 10-1 on his first start back after a wind operation.
