Newbury Racing Tips (Saturday 29 November 2025)

1.40 Newbury – Dominic’s Fault (1pt e/w – 9/1 generally)

French Ship is the type to improve further, but the eye is drawn to an Olly Murphy/Sean Bowen combination lower down the handicap with Dominic’s Fault. The son of Camelot is belatedly making his way in the National Hunt world having missed 607 days after a fall in an Aintree maiden hurdle in May 2022, thus he is on the older side for a second season hurdler at the age of eight here. However, his three runs last season suggested he was progressing, as he should have won over this trip at Carlisle last October before a cosy win at Lingfield in December. He has been off since January having been brought down when travelling easily at Sandown, but this galloping type has twice gone well after big absences and is down 1lb from that day.

2.15 Newbury – Indemnity (1pt e/w – 9/2 generally)

Indemnity’s run of three straight victories may have come to an end earlier this month, but if anything his second at Ascot last time out was the best run of his career by some margin. Wins at Huntingdon, Warwick and Market Rasen had seen him shoot up 20lb in the handicap, but Emma Lavelle’s charge looked like making it four at Ascot only to be outpaced late on by Alexei, who has since hacked up in the Greatwood in the style of a Graded horse. As a result, there is no shame at all in having finished runner-up that day, with a course specialist behind in third, and the selection is up just 1lb for that effort. He had shaped like the potential winner, which only further adds to his case to go one better here.

2.55 Newbury – Monty’s Star (1pt e/w – 28/1 Paddy Power/Betfair)

Denman was the last top-weight to win what was then known as the Hennessy and while Monty’s Star is far from being cut from The Tank’s cloth, he is still one of the more high class handicap-toppers to have run in this race in recent seasons. The eight-year-old was twice a gallant runner-up in Grade 1 novice events in 2024, while he was not beaten far when fifth in the Irish Gold Cup back in February. Despite a couple of bad mistakes at Cheltenham, he was then a staying-on fourth in the Gold Cup and value for finishing closer than he did while nobody was living with Galopin Des Champs to conclude the seasons at Punchestown. Henry De Bromhead calls upon Jonathan Burke for the ride aboard a horse who goes well fresh and may find this exact test more to his liking than Grade 1 company.

Newcastle Racing Tips (Saturday 29 November 2025)

3.15 Newcastle – Docpickedme (1pt e/w – 9/1 generally)

With Charlie Maggs taking off 5lb, Docpickedme could be primed to go well again back over fences for Richard Hobson, who has enjoyed winners with his last two runners. The yard may well have been aiming the nine-year-old at this since the end of last season, as he enjoyed the winter months last season, finishing a close second at Doncaster over 3m before winning the Grade 3 Great Yorkshire Handicap over that same track and trip in January from The Changing Man. That is good form, and came under Magg’s stewardship, while his poor effort at Aintree to conclude last term may have been after too many days off the track. A horse who usually needs a run, he was a promising fifth back over hurdles at Newbury earlier this month, which was one of his better recent efforts when fresh, so there could be plenty of improvement forthcoming quickly here.
