Newbury Racing Tips (Friday 28 November 2025)
The first day of Newbury’s Coral Gold Cup meeting takes place today, and Andrew has identified several angles on the card.
2.25 Newbury – Telepathique (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
Telepathique tends to jump out to her left but that didn’t prevent her from signing off last season with victory in a Listed mares’ chase at right-handed Huntingdon. That trait resurfaced when Lucy Wadham’s progressive seven-year-old reappeared in a Listed mares’ chase at right-handed Carlisle on November 2nd where she weakened on the run after disputing the lead to finish second, just over nine lengths behind Faye Bramley’s Paggane, who followed up in a canter in the same grade at Market Rasen earlier this week. Her full record now reads 41021112112 (6-11), with the ‘duck egg’ coming in the Grade 2 mares’ bumper at Aintree in 2023. She’s two from two on her second run of the season and she’s worth a small interest despite the presence of other pace angles Twinjets and Filanderer.
3.00 Newbury – Strong Leader (1pt win – 11/4 generally)
Strong Leader provided us with a ‘squeaky bum’ moment before winning on his reappearance at Wetherby last month, needing all of Sean Bowen’s skill to score by a neck from Take No Chances, with our saver selection, Doddiethegreat, just over a length back in third place. That pair re-oppose Olly Murphy’s eight-year-old in the Grade 2 Long Distance Hurdle today, but I expect the winner to confirm the form. That Wetherby win took his record on flat left-handed tracks to 1111201121 (7-10) with the two runner-up efforts in Grade 1 company at Aintree. Doddiethegreat is best when fresh and could go backwards here and similar comments, though to a lesser degree, could apply to current favourite Impose Toi, who did us a favour when winning well backed (15-8f from 8-1) at Aintree on his comeback. His record immediately after a win for Nicky Henderson (when running in the same season of that win) reads 222 (0-3).
Southwell Racing Tips (Friday 28 November 2025)
Southwell’s all-weather card offers solid betting opportunities, with pace angles and track biases playing a key role in Andrew’s final selection.
4.15 Southwell – Treasured Moments (1pt win – 11/2 bet365)
Charlie Johnston’s Loquella (11-4 advised in this column) defied a market drift to score on her debut at Newcastle yesterday (SP 9-2, though available at 8-1+ on Betfair shortly before the off) and I want to side with Treasured Moments on the same angle today. As mentioned in yesterday’s column, her trainer has a fine record with juvenile fillies that were making their racecourse debut on the all-weather and those with prior experience don’t look bombproof in tis 7f fillies’ novice contest.
