There are six race meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, a perfect starter before many sports fans tune in to the World Cup’s opening game during the evening.
To try and land some decent Lucky 15 profits earlier in the day, Joe Napier has four selections across Newbury and Yarmouth for you to follow.
Newbury Racing Tips (Thursday 11 June)
There are only six races at Newbury on Thursday, but all six have attracted fields of eight or more. Across the competitive card, Joe has two best bets.
3.30 Newbury – Storm Free (1pt win – 10/1)
James Tate has had two winners in the past week from only a handful of runners. Storm Free could well provide another here. Oisin Murphy is an eye-catching jockey booking aboard the four-year-old, who won twice last year. Those victories included a success at Leicester to conclude his campaign off a mark of 85. Returning for the season, he ran well at Newmarket from what proved an inconvenient draw off a 5lb higher mark. He was subsequently down the field in the Victoria Cup, but that was an extremely competitive race. If cheekpieces make a positive difference, as well as the choice of jockey, he is only 3lb above his last winning mark. That rating of 88 looks lenient if recapturing his best.
4.05 Newbury – Golden Long (1pt win – 5/1)
Originally based in Hong Kong, Golden Long had his supporters on his first two British starts. He went off favourite at both Southwell and Yarmouth, finishing fifth and third respectively. Though he disappointed backers that day, he dropped 3lb in the handicap based on those performances. The Brazen Beau gelding then delivered at Windsor when upped to 6f off a mark of 74. He saw that race out really strongly and was over four lengths in front of the third. A 6lb rise in the ratings is merited, but his new connections look to have found his optimum trip.
Yarmouth Racing Tips (Thursday 11 June)
Joe waits until later on Yarmouth’s card for two of our Lucky 15 tips. He has selections in the fifth and sixth contests.
4.28 Yarmouth – Fox Avatar (1pt win – 7/2)
Top-weight Fox Avatar drops in class and may prove too strong in this 1m3½f handicap. The son of Frankel was a two-time winner in 2025, both on the all-weather. A lot of his improvement has come on artificial surfaces, but he did win on turf as a juvenile. There were also excuses for his only turf run of 2025 at Lingfield. He returned from more than nine months off with a mid-division effort at Kempton last month. He is still on a winnable mark based on his wins last summer though, which were completed with authority. Should he transfer his form back to grass, he can concede 7lb and more all round.
5.03 Yarmouth – Zafaan (1pt win – 9/2)
A winner at this level over course and distance last season, only one horse outranks Zafaan on ratings here. The six-year-old was relatively consistent after that victory in class 6 handicaps before a lesser run on the all-weather. He has performed okay since over hurdles too, all at a higher level than he runs at on the flat. However, his wins have come on the level and another may arrive on Thursday. Conditions suit, he is proven in classified contests, and had a run last month to get some race fitness back.
