The John Butler-trained Rising Force is ideally served by a big field/strong pace scenario, with his wins coming in fields of 22, 15, 10, 10, 9, 9 and 8 runners. Two of the three victories in single-figure line-ups came when ridden by top amateur rider Henry Callan at Lingfield after they went too hard up front. The five-year-old usually runs his race given 7f-1m in Class 4 or lower company, a field of 10+ runners and a recent outing (21 days or sooner), recording form figures under such conditions of 91259124231418 (4-14) for a profit of £46.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. It’s a shame there’s no headwind forecast in this 11-runner 1m handicap today but there’s pace on from Bee Farmer and Harry The Rogue and the track should suit.
4.45 Newcastle – Heather’s Feather (1pt win – 14/1 in a place, 12/1 general)
Tracy Waggott’s Heather’s Feather (“held up in rear”) shaped with encouragement when a 125-1 sixth of ten behind Viper in a 7f novice stakes at Newcastle on June 26th and he also showed ability on the Tapeta when a 300-1 sixth over 1m in maiden company at the same venue on his racecourse debut. The three-year-old was well beaten over 7f when returned to Newcastle for his handicap debut in late July but that was more encouragement from last month’s 6f Carlisle defeat where the 25-1 shot finished five lengths behind the winner after being squeezed out at the start and getting no cover out wide. The first-time cheekpieces, drop to 5f and presence of Jason Hart in the saddle for the first time could all bring about improvement and he’s worth chancing at a big price.
