Andrew Mount has been in terrific form of late and he heads to Newcastle on Thursday 19 February for his best bets of the day.
A bumper nine-race card takes place at the north east track and Andrew has a trio of selections for today’s all-weather racing.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Thursday 19 February 2026)
It’s a 3.57pm start for today’s racing at Newcastle, but you have to wait until the 6.30pm contest for Andrew’s first selection, before he ends with two tips in the 8.00pm.
6.30 Newcastle – Auntie Jo (1pt e/w – 15/2 888sport, 7/1 generally)
Auntie Jo is a 16-race maiden but has shown enough to suggest that she can land a race of this nature, especially now fitted with first-time cheekpieces. David O’Meara’s four-year-old caught the eye when a 22-1 fifth in a course and distance handicap on her penultimate start, coming from off then pace when it paid to be on the front end, and running an almost identical race in a classified contest here last time. Her in-form trainer has a 13 from 72 record (18.1% strike-rate) when fitting one of his all-weather runners with first-time cheekpieces for a profit of £38.42 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£49.01 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). In today’s Class 6 level the score is nine from 34 (26.5%).
8.00 Newcastle – Dark Kestrel (1pt win – 6/1 bet365, 11/2 generally) & Pop Star (0.5pt e/w – 16/1 generally)
True Promise is proving very hard to win with, placing in five of his six starts for current trainer Fionn McSharry including a half-length second when 13-8 favourite at Southwell last time. That moved his current losing run to 22 and the 3-1 favourite looks worth opposing once again. I want to play two horses again the jolly – Dark Kestrel and Pop Star. The first-named has a 0-26 record in Class 4 or better company but does well in tonight’s Class 5 grade (he’s never raced in a Class 6), landing five of his 23 such starts for a profit of £9.83 t a £1 level stake at SP (+£17.63 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). In 5f all-weather handicaps only, after a recent run (within 19 days), his record in Class 5 company stands at 221315314861 (4-12) for a profit of £16.50 at SP (+£23.52 at BSP).
