There are seven meetings going racing on Saturday with weather conditions slightly more benign than during the week. That means a packed afternoon of action to enjoy.
GG tipster Joe Napier sticks to home shores for our Lucky 15 tips for Saturday. Three of our selections run at Newcastle, with a single tip from York.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Saturday 27 June)
Our selections at Newcastle run in the opening trio of races on Newcastle’s Northumberland Plate card.
1.40 Newcastle – Bobby Bennu (1pt e/w – 6/1)
Now 2lb below his last winning mark, Bobby Bennu can return to the winners enclosure. The five-year-old’s all-weather record reads 2213, the win being his last success in November 2024. However, he ran well exclusively on turf last year, finishing second at Haydock and fifth of 20 at Ascot. Despite that, he has continued to drift down the handicap. Roger Varian’s charge is now down to a mark of 92, eased a further 1lb for his reappearance despite finishing fourth of 11 from Chester from the widest draw. His last all-weather run, in January 2025, saw him finish third off 5lb higher than his current rating. He can now improve significantly for the run, as he has done in both of the last two campaigns.
2.10 Newcastle – Paborus (1pt e/w – 12/1)
Returning just one day short of a year-long absence, Paborus is very interesting in this 6f Group 3. The son of French Group 1 winner Recoletos is very unexposed for a five-year-old. He has raced just seven times to date, winning four. All have been over 7f, including his only all-weather start at Southwell. That victory came by four lengths on a Tapeta surface, which bodes well for this contest. He has to adapt back down to 6f, but his profile has been progressive, and his win at Thirsk last April hinted that he might be very talented. A third at this level at York since was a likeable effort. Given he goes well fresh, this looks a worthwhile attempt at a Group race breakthrough.
2.40 Newcastle – Alphonse Le Grande (1pt e/w – 11/1)
A winner of this race two years ago, it may again have been the plan for Alphonse Le Grande. His 2024 season was outstanding, winning this race and the Cesarewitch. The latter success came off a mark of 87, just 3lb below the mark he carries in this contest. Since then, he has not managed a top four finish, but there have been some fine efforts. He was only beaten three lengths in the 2025 Ascot Stakes over 2m4f, while he ran into trouble when beaten the same distance at York last August. Subsequent efforts have been less stellar. However, his two races this campaign have seen him race over far too short at the Curragh, then be given an impossible task from a wide draw in the Chester Cup. Back down to a rating of 87, he looks very dangerous once again.
York Racing Tips (Saturday 27 June)

1.55 York – Golden Strike (1pt e/w – 13/2)
It has taken a while, but Golden Strike looks well worth stepping up to 1m for Richard and Peter Fahey. The son of Calyx has mostly excelled at 7f as an older horse. He lost his way at three, but bounced back at four to win at Newcastle, then twice finish second on the all-weather across the country. His return to turf did not go as smoothly at Doncaster, as he played up in the stalls. On best behaviour next time out, though, he won on the Knavesmire over 7f. Going up to 1m looks a wise play given how fast he finished. A 3lb rise also looks measured given he beat 21 rivals that day.
