Newmarket Racing Tips (Saturday 8 August)
Our opening lucky 15 tips runs in the first at Newmarket, the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes.
1.55 Newmarket – Nuit d’Eclair (1pt win – 3/1)
Graceful Song may possess the talent to make it back-to-back Godolphin wins in this Group 3. However, Nuit d’Eclair was unlucky not to place in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot over 6f and may well thrive upped to 7f. The daughter of Night Of Thunder is unexposed too after just two starts. She ran very well on her Group race debut against a number of fillies who had raced at Royal Ascot. Her margin of defeat would have been smaller than one length but for being short of room late on too. Having seen out 6f strongly, she has every chance of blossoming further over this new distance. Improvement looks very probable too.
Ascot Racing Tips (Saturday 8 August)
It’s Shergar Cup day at Ascot this Saturday. That means six handicaps for punters to enjoy, with three of our lucky 15 tips running on the card.
2.45 Ascot – Night Breeze (1pt win – 4/1)
The six-year-old Night Breeze is enjoying an excellent season on turf so far. In five races, he is yet to finish out of the first four and an overdue second victory in 2026 can now be landed. Ian Williams’ charge won at Epsom in April, then was second during the Derby festival there in June. He has since been third twice in 12 and 17-runner fields at Newmarket and Glorious Goodwood. He has become admirably consistent, with his third over 1m2f last time out over too short a trip. Though he is up another 2lb, the return to 1m4f should suit and it should take a well-treated rival to best him. Dylan Browne McMonagle is an excellent jockey to be aboard for the Shergar Cup too.
3.55 Ascot – Archers Bay (1pt win – 3/1)
Hoseki seeks a four-timer, but Ryan Moore’s presence aboard Archers Bay is a boon for Marco Botti’s runner. The Wootton Bassett colt won on the Rowley Mile to begin the season. Hew as a respectable third next time out in the Listed Newmarket Stakes before being bogged down, like many others, in heavy ground in the Italian Derby. His fourth on the July Course most recently was luckless, twice being given no run, while he may have been challenging on the wrong side anyway. He looked like contending before his interference though and the handicapper has dropped him 1lb. 1m4f could be in range on pedigree and Moore would love to swan away with the top jockey prize on Shergar Cup day.
4.30 Ascot – Bullet Point (1pt win – 5/1)
Interest may now be renewed in Bullet Point, whose form since last summer has tailed off. However, after Group and conditions races proved too hot to end 2025, he has slipped down the handicap so far this year. He would have finished much closer at Newbury last time though had he not been badly hampered. Tom Marquand wisely took it easy in the final furlong, but the handicapper has relented. Dropped to a rating of 101, he is now just 1lb above his last winning mark. He has twice been second oer this course and distance in big fields, once in the Royal Hunt Cup. This race is markedly less competitive and he can spring back to form.
