It’s day two of the Newmarket July Festival on Friday 10th July, with the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes being the feature race of the day. Our tipster Steve Chambers has delved through the form and pick out his best bets for the action at Flat HQ.
Newmarket Racing Tips (Friday 10th July)
There’s a seven-race card at Newmarket on Friday, with the action beginning at 1.50pm. The Falmouth Stakes and Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes are the two Group offerings, whilst there’s a host of other competitive races.
1.50 Newmarket – Princling (1pt win – 9/4)
One win in five career starts has hardly seen Princling rocket into the limelight, but he ran an eye-catching race when fifth in the Golden Gates Stakes at Royal Ascot, and can build on that in the opening race at 1.50pm. Finding himself towards the back during that event, he made steady progress through the field in the closing stages. He runs off the same mark of 91 for this event, and if William Haggas can bring him on again then he can simply outclass his rivals here.
4.45 Newmarket – Rosario (1pt win – 13/2)
Third in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster earlier in his career off a mark of 91, Roger Teal’s Rosario lines up in the 4.45pm contest off 88 and looks to stand a huge chance. The son of Harry Angel has been struggling to find his best of late and was last seen finishing fifth of nine at Windsor off a mark of 89. Dropped by the handicapper for that run, it’s interesting that Teal has opted for William Buick to take the ride and the 13-race maiden could well finally break his duck in the penultimate race on the card.
5.20 Newmarket – Sierra Sands (1pt win – )
Ed Dunlop’s Sierra Sands posted a career best to land a Newmarket win by a length last month. Now, the son of Sands Of Mali will attempt to defy a 4lbs rise and claim back-to-back wins at the track in the 5.20pm. That success came over six furlongs and he lines up over seven on Friday, but he certainly shaped like he was more than capable of delivering the goods once again. It’s a hugely competitive finale, with plenty standing a chance, but Sierra Sands is one improving at a rate of knots and with Ryan Moore in the saddle he can make it two wins on the bounce.
