The July Course will continue to look resplendent on our screens on Friday. The summer weather has come in time for the meeting at HQ, which kicked off on Thursday.
On the second day, the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes is the showpiece. Our top tipster Matty Sutcliffe has three tips for the Friday races, including a 25/1 best bet in the big one.
Newmarket Racing Tips (Friday 10 July 2026)
Newmarket’s July meeting goes up a level on Friday with the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes. Matty has an each-way selection in the big race, with two other tips on the card.
13:50 Newmarket – Oddschecker Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3yo 0-105) – Decade Of Time 11/2 1pt WIN
This looks a trappy six-runner affair with three of the field returning from Royal Ascot. However, Princling and Laureate Crown might not be suited by their hold up styles here and while Evanesco fared best of the prominent racers in his contest, a mark off 100 looks tricky enough for now.
As a result, it may pay to chance the other prominent racer in the field in Decade of Time. The unexposed son of Study Of Man made a promising debut at Newbury in a historically hot maiden when third to one who fared well on account of their track position in the Britannia.
That Newbury form has worked out exceptionally well, the second won next time out now rated 89, the fourth has won twice since now rated 92 including in a competitive Curragh handicap and the fifth has won since.
He then went to Windsor for a Novice and won comfortably, staying on strongly. He backed that up under a penalty giving away 12lbs to an 83 rated rival, beating him four lengths.
His prominent style of racing will be well suited to this track, and a mark off 92 could well underestimate him now stepping up in trip on handicap debut.
15:00 Newmarket – Betway Trophy (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (4yo+) – Oneforthegutter 14/1 1pt EW 3 places
Wine Dark Sea will prove tough to beat if replicating his Carlisle performance as he’s 11lbs well in under a 6lbs penalty, but he steps up two furlongs here and it may pay to chance last years winner Oneforthegutter, who looks to have been plotted for this and is 4lbs lower.
His three turf wins have come in the month of July so perhaps he comes alive around this time of year, and he was second off a pound lower in this contest in 2024, prior to his third in the Ebor. He failed to land a blow in that contest last season, but he won this in spite of adversity having to switch around runners and a similar performance may suffice.
He has followed a similar path this time around, catching the eye at Ayr under a tender Paul Mulrennan ride, and now looks the time to catch him.
15:35 Newmarket – Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Falmouth Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+) -Venetian Lace 25/1 1pt EW 2 places
A line can be completely drawn through Venetian Lace‘s dismal effort in the Oaks, as she failed to handle the soft conditions and didn’t appear to stay either. Having missed the Pretty Polly, she’s fresher than most and on her 1000 Guineas third, she has to be considered.
She fared the best of those racing near-side throughout, as Ryan Moore successfully switched to the seemingly preferred side on True Love and Venetian Lace was two lengths better than Abashiri who was next home on her side, who was then three lengths behind Precise.
Precise didn’t appear to run her true race, but she has twice subsequently and Touleen, who was in sixth in the 1000 Guineas, arguably should have beaten Precise at Royal Ascot.
Venetian Lace has good form on the July course having hit the frame twice last season, and she ran an excellent second to Precise in the Fillies’ Mile, ahead of Evolutionist. I thought Precise looked a touch flat last time out, and now back at a mile on a prominently racing favouring track, Venetian Lace looks overpriced particularly back on a sounder surface.
