Newmarket & York Racing Tips - Joe Napier's Lucky 15 Tips for Friday 10 July

Newmarket & York Racing Tips - Joe Napier's Lucky 15 Tips for Friday 10 July

Few Fridays possess multiple Group race meetings, but this week is different. Newmarket’s July meeting goes into its second day, headlined by the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes, while York hosts the Group 3 Summer Stakes on the Knavesmire.

GG tipster Joe Napier’s lucky 15 tips for Friday come from both those meetings, with selections in both feature contests.

Newmarket Racing Tips (Friday 10 July)

Day two of the July meeting features its first Group 1 in the Falmouth Stakes. Three of our lucky 15 tips run at the festival, including one in the big race itself.

1.50 Newmarket – Princling (1pt win – 9/4)

The novice event that Decade Of Time and Heraldry emerge from has not worked out at all. As such, it is worth following Royal Ascot form with Princling. A winner on return at Wetherby after two runner-up finishes as a juvenile, he was harshly penalised for a fourth place on handicap bow at Carlisle. He went up 4lb, but ran well having been forced wide throughout at the royal meeting. He finished fifth upped to 1m2f in the Golden Gates Stakes. His mark is unchanged, but in a much smaller, less competitive field, he can easily take the step forward.

13:50 Oddschecker Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race)

3.00 Newmarket – Oneforthegutter (1pt win – 14/1)

Wine Dark Sea is an astonishing 11lb well-in, which he could make a mockery of. However, for a first run over 1m6f, he is up against a number of proven stayers, either on the way up or on very tempting marks. The most notable of the latter category is Oneforthegutter, who won this a year ago. The seven-year-old lost his way completely through the rest of 2025. His return this season has not gone smoothly either, but in unfavourably soft ground at Ayr last time, there were signs of promise. Down 2lb to a mark of 88, he is now 4lb lower than when winning this well last season. He was also second two years ago, so is simply too tempting to ignore.

15:00 Betway Trophy (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race)

3.35 Newmarket – Blue Bolt (1pt win – 7/2)

Precise is a high class filly, but was flat to the boards from a long way out in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. Ryan Moore may be able to conjure up some magic again, but she looks in need of further now. Similarly, Blue Bolt may be a year older, but looks to be improving at as quick a rate. The daughter of Blue Point looked useful last season, her peak coming when second in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes to conclude 2025. She has won both this season though, claiming Listed honours at Goodwood first off. However, she reached a new career high with an accomplished performance at Royal Ascot. She landed the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes by a little under two lengths and looks ready to go back into Group 1s. She looks more of an out-an-out miler than the favourite and can turn her over.

15:35 Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Falmouth Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares)

York Racing Tips (Friday 10 July)

York’s highlight on Friday is the Group 3 Summer Stakes, in which our sole lucky 15 tip at the track runs.

2.45 York – Spicy Marg (1pt win – 11/4)

Spicy Marg’s second in the Commonwealth Cup may have come at 50/1 but it looked no fluke. Indeed, Michael Bell’s charge looked like overcoming hot favourite Venetian Sun until the winner pulled out more. That was nevertheless a career best, but her form had been improving since her return in the 1000 Guineas. 6f on quick ground looks ideal for her on Ascot evidence, with that form far superior to her rivals’ recent efforts. She was last of 17 on her only Knavesmire run to date. However, that came when ambitiously contesting the Nunthorpe as a two-year-old last season. This is a much different test and she is a more complete filly now.
