4.20 Perth – Follow Charlie (1pt win – 9/4 bet365, 2/1 general)
Hat-trick Follow Charlie seems to have been around for ever but is only a seven-year-old and he’s still improving. Mike Smith’s gelding used to be one to oppose in Class 4 level and back in Class 5 company, but he’s won twice in the higher grade in the past 12 months, including over course and distance last time out when recording a solid Proform speed figure. He’s only ever won at Ayr or Perth and his record in handicap hurdles at these two venues, over 2m-2m4f, below Class 3 level, stands at 21163653106164411 (6-17).
Galway Racing Tips (Monday 7 September 2026)
There’s more jumping action across the Irish Sea at Galway, with Andrew having a brace of selections in the 5.41pm and 6.11pm contests.
5.41 Galway – John Storey (0.5pt e/w 12/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 11/1 general)
John Storey, just over 13 lengths back in third when 17-2 for a 3m1f handicap chase at Roscommon’s biased meeting on August 4th, had no right to place after racing in the deep stuff on the inside rail and his performance was worthy of a huge upgrade. He’s hardy prolific (one win from 20 starts) but has only had four runs for his current yard and holds each-way claims now back over hurdles with the recent rain in his favour.
6.11 Galway – Strong Contender (1pt win – 5/1 bet365)
Strong Contender did well to finish eighth of 16 in a 2m6f handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe in July and has since won twice at Wexford/Sligo (3m/3m2f). Her patient running style could prove helpful in another big-field stayers’ contest and the 6lb rise for her latest victory could have been worse. She recorded her career-best speed rating last time out and remains open to improvement on only her ninth start.
