13:40 – Stonepack Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race)

Race Details: 2m 4f | Class 4 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This doesn’t look a deep mares’ novice by any stretch, and the market has latched on to the right trio. Gordon Elliott saddles the two obvious form horses in Dunsy Rock and Celtic Alliance, while Nicky Henderson’s Viscountess Nelson brings solid placed form into the mix. Dunsy Rock sets the standard on hurdles figures after getting off the mark last time and is the one they all have to beat, but Celtic Alliance is interesting receiving weight as a winning 4yo who could have a fair bit more to come over this longer trip. Viscountess Nelson is the safe alternative for place purposes. The rest need dramatic improvement, so this feels more about whether the favourite is bombproof than a wide-open puzzle.

Top Selections

1. Dunsy Rock – 4/5 with Bet365

Jockey: Harry Cobden | Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Form: 41 | Rating: 126 | Topspeed: 95

She brings the strongest hurdle form into the race and that rating of 126 gives her a clear edge on what we’ve seen so far. The bare form figures of 4-1 don’t tell the full story either, because she looked as though she was learning quickly and then did the job properly when winning last time. Harry Cobden is an eye-catching booking and, in a race where several rivals are either exposed or have plenty to prove, she sets a proper standard. At around 4/5 she’s no giveaway, but this is a race in which the obvious answer may well be the right one. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Viscountess Nelson – 3/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: James Bowen | Trainer: Nicky Henderson | Form: 42 | Rating: 114 | Topspeed: 97

She’s the each-way angle if you want to oppose the Elliott pair at the prices, because her form is tidy and she looks dependable in a race lacking depth. The runner-up effort last time suggested she’s moving in the right direction, and her Topspeed figure of 97 is actually the best in the field, which gives her a solid platform if this turns into a proper test from some way out. James Bowen is a positive booking and Henderson’s mares often know their job in races of this type. She may lack the raw upside of Celtic Alliance, but available at 3/1 she makes plenty of place appeal. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Dunsy Rock is the win play and the one I’d be strongest on, as she has the best completed hurdles profile and sets the clear form standard. For an each-way punt, Viscountess Nelson looks the sensible option with her consistency and strong speed figure. Celtic Alliance is the danger, especially with the weight allowance, but the safer betting split is win on Dunsy Rock and each-way on Viscountess Nelson.

14:10 – Download The Free Racing TV App Now Handicap Hurdle (Div I)

Race Details: 2m 4f | Class 4 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This looks a proper competitive Class 4 handicap rather than a race to get carried away with, and there are several arriving with something to recommend them. Joeybottles and Bel Ombre both come here off wins, while A King Of Magic has been thriving for Paul Nicholls and shaped as though this sort of trip still suits him well. Platin Moon is another with momentum after winning two of his last three, and he gets in here with a handy racing weight. The question is whether proven recent progress counts for more than a few well-treated types trying to bounce back. In a 10-runner field with three places on offer, it feels more like a race to play with one solid win bet and one value each-way angle than to go all-in on a short one.

Top Selections

1. Joeybottles – 10/3 with Bet365

Jockey: Toby Wynne | Trainer: Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero | Form: 3-7451 | Rating: 117 | Topspeed: 100

Joeybottles looks the one with the strongest mix of current form and upside. He finally got his head back in front last time and did it in a way that suggested this mark may not have caught up with him just yet. A 5yo with a Topspeed figure of 100 in this company immediately catches the eye, and this intermediate trip on decent ground should be right in his wheelhouse. He is not thrown in, but he is progressive, and that often matters more in spring handicaps than trying to unearth some hidden revival. Available at 10/3, he makes plenty of appeal as the percentage call. Bet type: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Platin Moon – 13/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Bruce Lynn | Trainer: N W Alexander | Form: 465131 | Rating: 117 | Topspeed: 112

Platin Moon is the each-way play because he arrives in rude health and still looks fairly treated despite another recent success. Two wins from his last three starts is solid enough on its own, but the standout number here is that Topspeed of 112, which is notably strong for a race of this nature. He also carries just 157lb, which gives him a practical edge against a few of the more obvious ones higher up the weights. Bruce Lynn knows him well, and if this turns into a proper stamina test from some way out, Platin Moon should be staying on when others have cried enough. At 13/2, he looks a very sensible each-way punt. Bet type: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Joeybottles is the win play because he looks progressive and comes here off the back of a confidence-boosting success. Platin Moon makes more appeal as the each-way alternative, with his recent profile and big Topspeed figure giving him a strong chance of hitting the frame at least. The obvious dangers are A King Of Magic, who is thriving, and Bel Ombre, who could easily follow up if building on his latest win.

14:40 – Download The Free Racing TV App Now Handicap Hurdle (Div II)

Race Details: 2m 4f | Class 4 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This looks a proper Perth handicap hurdle rather than a race packed with certainty. A few arrive with questions to answer, but there are also several with enough recent promise to make this competitive. Timefortom is easy to see as a major player if you forgive that latest pull-up, while Heard That arrives on the back of a solid second and looks well enough treated to be involved again. Karton Plein has ability but comes with risks after another non-completion, and Soldier’s Leap has been knocking on the door without getting his head back in front. Down at the weights, So Many Roads is not without interest either. It is not a deep race, but it is a tricky little puzzle where a clean round and sensible positioning could prove decisive.

Top Selections

1. Heard That – 7/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Aidan Weaver | Trainer: Olly Murphy | Form: -PP362 | Rating: 115 | Topspeed: 100

Heard That makes plenty of appeal in a race where not many arrive with rock-solid recent credentials. His last two efforts suggest he is coming to the boil again, especially that runner-up finish, and an opening mark of 115 still looks workable judged on the ability he has shown. Olly Murphy has a couple in here, but this one looks the more dependable option, and Aidan Weaver takes over on a horse who should be suited by this sort of trip around Perth. At 7/1 he looks a fair price rather than a fashionable one, and that is often the angle worth taking in races like this. Bet: WIN

2. Lets Mingle – 12/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Jack Power | Trainer: Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore | Form: 3-1243 | Rating: 117 | Topspeed: 102

Lets Mingle is the each-way play because she has been running with real consistency and does not need to find much more to get into the shake-up. The form figures tell the story: she has been holding her level well, and that latest third was another honest effort from a mare who keeps putting herself in the race. A mark of 117 asks a question, but not an impossible one, and the Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore team know exactly how to place this type. In a 10-runner race with three places on offer, 12/1 makes plenty of appeal for an each-way punt, especially against rivals who look less reliable. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Heard That is the win angle on the strength of his recent return to form and a mark that still gives him room to manoeuvre. Lets Mingle is the each-way alternative at a bigger price, bringing solid, repeatable form to the table. The obvious dangers are Timefortom if bouncing back from that latest pull-up, and Soldier’s Leap, who has been threatening to land one of these.

15:10 – River Tay Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Race Details: 2m 4f | Class 2 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This is a proper little Perth handicap chase, compact in numbers but not lacking depth. Tommy’s Oscar brings the class and the highest profile, but he also has to concede weight all round as an 11-year-old, which makes life harder in a race where several arrive with solid enough claims. Toothless has been knocking firmly on the door and looks the obvious progressive angle for Paul Nicholls, while Slanagaibhgoleir is dangerously well treated if building on his better efforts for Gordon Elliott. King Roly is another with a handy racing weight and enough recent form to get involved. It doesn’t look a weak Class 2 by any means, but it is a tricky puzzle because the established names are giving lumps away to younger, less exposed rivals.

Top Selections

1. Toothless – 10/3 with Bet365

Jockey: Freddie Gingell | Trainer: Paul Nicholls | Form: 1-5122 | Rating: 149 | Topspeed: 142

Toothless appeals as the one arriving with the right blend of consistency and upside. His recent form figures read well for a race like this, and those back-to-back seconds suggest he is holding his level in competitive company without being punished too harshly by the assessor. Carrying 147, he gets in lighter than some of the obvious dangers, and that could matter plenty around Perth over this trip. Nicholls doesn’t send many north for the scenery, and Freddie Gingell is more than capable of making his weight count. Available at 10/3, he looks the percentage call in a race where a few of the older, classier names have vulnerabilities. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. King Roly – 6/1 with Betfair

Jockey: James Bowen | Trainer: Mickey Bowen | Form: 412146 | Rating: 150 | Topspeed: 140

King Roly makes plenty of each-way appeal at around 6/1. He’s a 7-year-old who still has the look of a horse capable of squeezing out a bit more improvement, and his profile is solid rather than flashy. The latest sixth doesn’t scream winner, but his overall sequence this season is respectable and he’s shown enough to think this mark is workable, especially with just 148 on his back. James Bowen is an eye-catching booking and he tends to get a tune out of these strong-travelling handicap chasers. In a race where the market may gravitate toward the obvious pair, King Roly looks the value alternative to hit the frame and possibly go one better if things fall right. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Toothless is the win play, chiefly because he arrives in the best current nick and looks fairly weighted for a race of this type. King Roly is the each-way punt in an eight-runner field with three places on offer, as his profile and racing weight give him a solid chance of making the frame. The main dangers are Tommy’s Oscar on pure class and Slanagaibhgoleir if bouncing back.

15:40 – Join Racing TV Now Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Race Details: 2m 7f | Class 3 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This is a tight little seven-runner handicap chase rather than a deep one, and the weights tell the story. American Mike and Minella Drama shoulder 12st 2lb, while Mountain Mike and If Not For Dylan get in much lighter off 10st 5lb, which could prove crucial over this trip at Perth. American Mike arrives off a solid second and looks sure to be popular for the Bowen-Murphy team, but he does have to concede plenty all round. Mountain Mike was still bang there when falling last time and remains the unexposed one in the line-up, while Statuario is respected after winning earlier in the season. It is a race where recent rhythm and sensible jumping may matter more than raw class, so there is enough here to make it a proper betting puzzle.

Top Selections

1. Mountain Mike – 3/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Luke Scott | Trainer: Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole | Form: 21-32F | Rating: 146 | Topspeed: 112

He makes plenty of appeal in a race where a few of these look exposed. The seven-year-old was running a perfectly respectable race when falling last time, and his earlier placed efforts suggested a handicap like this is within range. Off 10st 5lb he is very nicely treated at the weights compared to the classier but burdened principals, and that matters over nearly three miles around here. There is still a sense that we have not seen the best of him over fences, which cannot be said for some of these older rivals. At 3/1 he is not exactly hiding, but he still looks the percentage call. Bet: WIN

2. Della Casa Lunga – 8/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Ned Fox | Trainer: Clive Boultbee-Brooks | Form: -73423 | Rating: 143 | Topspeed: 87

Della Casa Lunga is the one that makes most each-way sense in a small but competitive field. Her recent form figures are solid without being flashy, and that third last time tells you she is holding her level well enough. She is another who gets in light enough and, unlike one or two in here, arrives without obvious temperament or jumping concerns hanging over her. This race may set up for something ridden patiently off the stronger travellers, and Ned Fox could easily have her picking up the pieces late on. At 8/1, she looks the value each-way punt against more fashionable names. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Mountain Mike is the win play because he has the right profile, the right weight and still has scope to do better over fences. For an each-way alternative, Della Casa Lunga looks the sensible option at a bigger price given her steady recent form. American Mike is the obvious danger on pure recent evidence, while Statuario is respected if bouncing back.

16:10 – Scone International Horse Trials Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m | Class 4 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This looks a proper competitive Perth handicap rather than a penalty kick, with a few progressive types meeting some battle-hardened handicappers. Fouroneohfever and Mister Ursus dominate the market for good reason, both arriving on the back of wins and both still open to a bit more improvement at this trip. The Hatchet has been knocking on the door and brings solid recent form, while Scriabin is interesting from a handy weight after shaping like his turn is near. A Different Kind is dependable enough to run his race but may just find one or two better treated. In a 12-runner heat over a sharp 2m, clean jumping and tactical speed are likely to count for plenty, and this is no easy puzzle despite the obvious strength at the head of the market.

Top Selections

1. Mister Ursus – 11/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Sean Bowen | Trainer: Olly Murphy | Form: 4221 | Rating: 120 | Topspeed: 117

He makes plenty of appeal. That recent win was the latest step forward in a very solid sequence, and the form figures of 4221 suggest a young hurdler who has learned his job and is now cashing in. A mark of 120 still looks workable on the evidence of that latest effort, and the standout Topspeed figure of 117 catches the eye in this field. Sean Bowen is the kind of rider you want around Perth, especially on a prominent traveller, and Olly Murphy’s horses tend to do well when they hit a vein of form. At 11/4, he is not exactly hidden, but he still looks the most solid option in the race. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Scriabin – 10/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Patrick Wadge | Trainer: Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore | Form: 06-352 | Rating: 118 | Topspeed: 109

He looks the each-way value in a race where the market may be a touch too concentrated on the obvious pair. Scriabin has been edging back into form, and that latest second suggested he is ready to strike if things fall right. He gets in here with just 155lb, which is no bad thing in a race featuring a few carrying more weight, and his Topspeed figure of 109 says he has the pace to lay up over this sharp trip. The Russell and Scudamore yard knows how to place one at Perth, and if Patrick Wadge can keep him in a good rhythm, 10/1 is a fair each-way punt. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Mister Ursus is the win play because he arrives as the progressive one with the best recent profile and the strongest speed figure. For an each-way alternative, Scriabin makes plenty of sense at double-figure odds with four places on offer. Fouroneohfever is the obvious danger, while The Hatchet looks likely to be involved again if this turns tactical.

16:40 – One Place. Every Race. Racing TV Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m | Class 5 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This is a proper end-of-card Perth handicap: plenty in with some sort of chance, but not many you would want to trust blindly. Shadowfax Of Rohan brings the clearest recent profile after winning two of his last three and is the obvious one to beat despite a rise in the weights. Bunker Bay has been knocking on the door and looks solid again from a handy racing weight, while Beat The Retreat arrives here off a win and is another with claims if backing that up. Lower down, Breadalbane Lass and Defying Gravity are the types who could outrun their prices in a race where a lot of these arrive with patchy recent form. It’s not a deep race, but it is a tricky enough puzzle once you get beyond the favourite.

Top Selections

1. Shadowfax Of Rohan – 7/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Charlie Maggs | Trainer: Patrick Neville | Form: 79P121 | Rating: 98 | Topspeed: 71

He is hard to get away from. Two wins from his last three starts tells its own story, and the latest success suggested he is thriving rather than merely taking advantage of weak opposition. An 8lb rise asks a question, but this is still only a Class 5 and there are enough unreliable types in here to think he can cope. Charlie Maggs knows him well and the six-year-old looks like the one runner arriving with real momentum. At 7/4 he is no giveaway in a 16-runner handicap, but he still holds the strongest claims if reproducing his current level. Bet type: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Breadalbane Lass – 12/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Toby Wynne | Trainer: R Mike Smith | Form: -06664 | Rating: 96 | Topspeed: 87

She makes more each-way appeal than most at the prices. The bare form figures do not scream winner, but that latest fourth was at least a step back in the right direction and she is down on a handy weight of 142 in a race where plenty of rivals have more obvious holes in their profile. Her Topspeed figure of 87 is perfectly workable at this level, and R Mike Smith’s runners at Perth are always worth a second look when they start to hint at a revival. At 12/1 with five places on offer, she looks the value each-way punt against a short-priced favourite. Bet type: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Shadowfax Of Rohan is the win play because he is the one arriving in form and still looks ahead of the assessor despite the rise. For an each-way alternative, Breadalbane Lass appeals at double-figure odds with five places on offer. Bunker Bay is the obvious danger after a string of solid efforts, while Beat The Retreat also deserves respect if building on that last-time-out win.

17:15 – Every Race Live On Racing TV Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Race Details: 2m 7f | Class 4 | Going: GOOD, Good to soft in places (Watered) | | jumps

This is a proper end-of-card handicap chase, the sort where plenty arrive with bits and pieces to recommend them but very few are bombproof. Casual Observer heads the market after a couple of solid efforts and is an obvious player if this trip draws out a little more, while Loulou Madrik keeps knocking on the door and should give another honest account. Nights In Venice is thriving and looks well treated under a handy weight, and Jirko is dangerously low in the weights for one with such consistent recent placed form. There are also a few lurkers, notably Burgundy Man and Sir Carnegie, who are not miles away on the figures. Tricky rather than strong, then, and it may pay to side with solid handicapping positions over glamour.

Top Selections

1. Nights In Venice – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Murray Dodd | Trainer: Donald Whillans | Form: 734212 | Rating: 120 | Topspeed: 99

He makes plenty of appeal in a race where a few of the principals are either creeping up the weights or just look short enough in the market. Nights In Venice arrives in good order, having won two starts back and then followed up with a solid second, and that recent form suggests he is holding his level well. Off 148 he gets in here with a lovely racing weight for this sort of staying handicap, and Perth often rewards horses who can travel and keep finding rather than flashy types. At 9/2 with Bet365, he looks the percentage call against less generously priced rivals. Bet: WIN

2. Jirko – 10/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Dominic Hislop | Trainer: N W Alexander | Form: -32333 | Rating: 121 | Topspeed: 105

Jirko is hardly hiding from the assessor, but he is running with admirable consistency and this mark does not look beyond him, especially with just 144 on his back. Those three consecutive thirds tell you he is thereabouts every time, and in a field of 11 that makes him very interesting as an each-way punt. The Alexander yard knows exactly how to place one around these northern tracks, and this seven-year-old has the profile of a horse who will be staying on when others have cried enough. He lacks the sexy profile of some younger rivals, but 10/1 is fair and arguably a shade generous. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Nights In Venice is the win play at around 9/2, as he brings the right blend of recent form and a workable weight. Jirko makes plenty of each-way appeal at 10/1 given how reliably he has been hitting the frame. Casual Observer is the obvious danger if the market has it right, while Loulou Madrik is another who should be on the shortlist.
