Andrew Mount attempts to kick off a new week in fine style and has three horse racing tips for Monday 26 January. Our top tipster heads to Plumpton and Wolverhampton today to try and bag some winners.
We preview both fixtures below and Andrew picks out his solitary pick from Plumpton and two selections from Wolverhampton.
Plumpton Racing Tips (Monday 26 January 2026)
Seven races will feature during Plumpton’s National Hunt card, with Andrew opting for an eye-catching 1.5pt win selection in the 1.50pm race.
1.50 Plumpton – Looping d’Arc (1.5pt win – 11/4 generally)
Ambiente Friendly has yet to fully convince over hurdles despite narrowly landing a 2m novice contest at Huntingdon on his penultimate start. He’s since finished well beaten over the same course and distance and this keen-going sort could again prove vulnerable. Take him on with Looping d’Arc, who will appreciate the return to a left-handed track after hanging badly left and running out at right-handed Hereford last time when 6-5 favourite for a novices’ hurdle. The Warren Greatrex-trained five-year-old has done well in both runs in this direction, finishing runner-up in a Newbury bumper before landing a maiden hurdle at Southwell. Since the beginning of 2008, backing runners who ran out in a right-handed hurdle when starting in the top three in the betting, who raced over hurdles on a left-handed track next time, would have found 11 winners from 38 bets (29% strike-rate) for a profit of £37.70 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£42.21 at Betfair SP after 2% commission).
Wolverhampton Racing Tips (Monday 26 January 2026)
A whopping nine races take place at Wolverhampton on the all-weather, with Andrew opting for a big-priced each-way pick in the 3.55pm and a 1pt win selection in the 7.00pm.
3.55 Wolverhampton – Bernie The Bear (0.5pt e/w – 22-1/ generally)
The absence of headwind at Newcastle’s meeting on January 20th made life very difficult for horses ridden patiently and all eight winners made the running or were prominent throughout. Division two of the 6f Class 6 handicap saw Yorkshire Glory (“made all”) beat Instant Bond (“prominent, pressed winner over 1f out”) by a neck, with my selection, Asadjumeirah, doing best of the closers in third. The fourth and fifth were also up with the pace and those given hold-up rides were worth upgrading. Second best of those (sixth overall) was 28-1 shot Bernie The Bear, who could be worth chancing tonight. Two hold-up horses from that meeting have run since – Ana Emeraaty (won 3/1) and Sir Maxi (fourth, 14-1) and we’ve also seen Aisling Oscar (15-8), who tracked the pace in third place but a bit further back than ideal when landing the 1m handicap, follow up his win. The Linda Perratt-trained Bernie The Bear usually plies his trade at Newcastle (one win from 20 starts, beating 60% of his rivals) but has a solid record at Wolverhampton (two wins from 12, beating 75.8% of his rivals) and he’s likely to be finishing to good effect.
7.00 Wolverhampton – Eagle Day (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
Eupator dominates the market for this 9.4f Class 5 handicap after winning unchallenged over the 8.6f trip here 72 hours ago, understandably so given his improvement since cut back in trip and fitted with blinkers. However, his chance is well covered in offers of around 11-8 and I’d rather side with Eagle Day, who faces his ideal conditions tonight. David Evans’ six-year-old has won four of his 14 course starts over 8.6f-9.4f and those include form figures in today’s grade of 2111 (3-4), with the defeat by a short head at 11-1. He trailed home last of ten over the 8.6f trip on his latest course start but his saddle slipped and it’s safe to ignore that effort. His latest course and distance outing produced an eye-catching one-length fifth in Class 4 company and he’s 12lb lower tonight.
