At the start of a high quality week of racing, five meetings go to post on Tuesday. They include two turf cards on the flat from Pontefract and Brighton.
GG tipster Joe Napier sticks to those two meetings, with two selections from each, for our daily lucky 15 tips.
Pontefract Racing Tips (Tuesday 7 July)
Pontefract’s card is the strongest of the day, with Listed action and the class 2 Silver Sprint Trophy Handicap among the seven races. We have tips in both of those contests for our lucky 15.
2.48 Pontefract – Cheshire Dancer (1pt win – 17/2)
There was a hint at a return to form from Cheshire Dancer at Royal Ascot. In this weak Listed contest, she could prove the answer if building on that effort. The five-year-old was second in this race 12 months ago behind a former Group race winner. She was more than two lengths clear of the third though, so emerged with plenty of credit. Cheshire Dancer herself followed up in a winnable Group 3 at Ascot before a respectable effort in America last August at the same level. Group 1 company proved too much at Newmarket to conclude last term, while race fitness and the 1m2½f trip respectively may have been excuses for her first two efforts this term. An eighth of 24 in a royal meeting handicap last time suggested she is still capable under the right conditions. This race might well provide them.
3.18 Pontefract – Dark Cloud Rising (1pt win – 6/4)
Although he now races off a career high mark, Dark Cloud Rising clicked at Ripon last time. David O’Meara’s charge endured a slow start to this campaign. In a first-time visor, he then unseated his rider at the start at Carlisle. The visor has since done the trick though, as he scooted clear for a two-length success off a mark of 88 at the Yorkshire track last time. He is up 6lb, but the runner-up has won since. Daniel Tudhope should be able to bounce him out from the front in this small field and challenge his rivals to pass him. The chances are none of them will.
Brighton Racing Tips (Tuesday 7 July)
Brighton’s six-race meeting ensures there is turf racing to enjoy into the evening on Tuesday. We have two tips at the venue, both in classified races.
6.20 Brighton – Valsharah (1pt win – 5/4)
Big Time Rascal won well over course and distance at this level last week. He gets a 5lb penalty for that win here though and the runner-up Valsharah would have been much closer with a trouble-free run. He was very slowly away and pulled Harry Davies’ arms off back in trip. Nevertheless, he powered home to be beaten only a length. Having been placed in a handicap off 57 earlier in 2026, he is clearly capable above this grade. As long as Jason Watson can get him to start more evenly, he could be very difficult to beat this time.
8.20 Brighton – Graffiti (1pt win – 5/2)
He mostly has better form on the all-weather, but Graffiti has a turf win to his name. The son of Sixties Icon also ran well at Windsor last time and is able to drop in grade. The selection is almost certainly fortunate in that respect, given he was fifth of ten on his most recent run, beaten less than three lengths, The handicap decided to drop him 3lb though, qualifying him for classified races on a rating of 50. He has finished second at this track in the past and has run well over 1m2f before. The highest-rated in this field, he can show why here.
