It is a quiet day for racing fans on Tuesday. Just two meetings take place during the afternoon, while two further all-weather cards are held from the evening onwards.
Joe Napier sticks to action on the flat for our Tuesday lucky 15 tips. He has two selections apiece from Pontefract and Newcastle.
Pontefract Racing Tips (Tuesday 2 June)
Pontefract host the only turf card on the flat on Tuesday. We have two tips for the action across the meeting.
3.48 Pontefract – Bravo Zulu (1pt win – 3/1)
Having finished second just eight days ago, Bravo Zulu escapes his 2lb rise in the handicap for now. As such, he is well-in and poised to strike for David Loughnane. The yard have been going well of late, winning with three of their last 12 runners. Bravo Zulu was nearly another when losing by just half-a-length at Redcar. That was the first race he had ever contested over 6f, having been campaigned over at least 7f since his debut. He finished strongly under Laura Pearson, with connections clearly pleased with the effort. He remains at 6f and will be ahead of this rating of 76. His trainer turning him out again so quickly could also be a meaningful sign.
4.48 Pontefract – Distinction (1pt win – 9/2)
There is little to go on by way of form here, save with Distinction for John Mackie. He is the veteran in the line-up, but that provides a greater degree of hope that he will bounce back to his best here. His form on his last run of May and first run in June for the last two seasons reads 1121, while he was third on his final run of May this year. That was the eight-year-old’s best effort in 2026 so far. It also came over a trip well short of his best at just 1m. Going back up to 1m2f is a definite positive as he has won over track and trip. A 1lb rise in the handicap for his last run still leaves him 5lb below his last winning mark. This has been a profitable time of year for his backers and this looks a very winnable race.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Tuesday 2 June)
Newcastle’s is one of two all-weather meetings to enjoy on Tuesday evening. We have a tip in the first and penultimate races.
6.15 Newcastle – Baldosa (1pt win – 10/1)
With Nigel Tinkler’s yard in form, having just failed to land a valuable 50/1 conditions winner at Beverley on Saturday, Baldosa may be about to win for the first time. The joint youngest horse in the line-up remains a maiden to this point. However, his rating of 49 is below only two rivals in this classified event. His two runs at Newcastle, while unsuccessful, were his most respectable to date. They included a third of seven at the track to start this season off a mark of 56. Now down to the lowest class, he faces a middle distance trip for the first time. On pedigree, that is overdue based on his sire and damsire (Time Test and Galileo). An eyecatching fifth behind a Group winner for Godolphin at two suggests Tinkler’s charge has ability. If that was no fluke, plenty of factors align for him to break his duck here.
8.15 Newcastle – Military Leader (1pt win – 11/4)
Bought for 1.5 million guineas a yearling, Military Leader evidently did little to impress Charlie Appleby. The son of Dubawi was sold on by Godolphin after just one start in October 2023. He did not see a racecourse for 665 days, eventually debuting for Phillip Makin in August of last year. Progress was slow, but after finishing fifth on his first handicap start last September, he has not finished out of the first four. They include form of 322 at Newcastle, but it is his efforts this season that are most promising. Making his return at Southwell in May, he won easily over 1m, then repeated the trick at Thirsk. The penny may have dropped for a horse bred and purchased to be extremely smart. He will not reach Group standard, but now seeking a hat-trick, a mark of 68 still looks one he can defy.
