Pontefract Racing Tips & Predictions – Tuesday 7th April 2026
Today’s Pontefract racing tips cover an eight-race Flat card on Tuesday 7th April 2026. We don’t have the going, distances or prize money listed in the racecards supplied, so this preview leans hard on what we do have: ratings, topspeed snippets, recent form, course records, tipster intel and a full set of live prices for most races.
Pontefract is a proper specialists’ track and our data analysis throws up a few names you should have in neon lights. Reigning Profit is the headline act on course form alone (8 runs here, 4 wins, 50% strike-rate), while Mount King (9 runs, 3 wins) and Distinction (5 runs, 2 wins) are genuine track operators too. Among the riders, Rossa Ryan has been dynamite here (63 rides, 18 wins), and if you’re following stables, Tristan Davidson sits top of the trainers-to-note list (10 runners, 3 wins). We’ll use that angle throughout these Pontefract racing tips, because at this place, course comfort is half the battle.

13:57 – Every Raceday Is Autism Friendly At Pontefract Novice Stakes (GBB Race)
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 4 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
This is a 12-runner novice and, honestly, it looks like a two-tier heat: a short-priced one with the right profile, and a pack playing for places. The market has latched onto Spaceman and it’s not hard to see why given he’s already run to a solid level (rating 79) and brings a bit of upside for Richard & Peter Fahey. Invincible Boy (rating 87, topspeed 75) is the obvious threat on the numbers, while Showtown is the hardened ‘nearly horse’ who keeps knocking (form 8223-) and should be bang there again. With plenty of newcomers and a couple with modest published ratings (like Go Teejay and Rousham), this doesn’t scream “big upset” to me. It’s more about not getting cute and taking the solid option.
Top selections
WIN: Spaceman
Jockey: Oisin Orr | Trainer: Richard & Peter Fahey | Form: 2- | Rating: 79 | Draw: | Weight: 133
All three tipsters on this race have landed on Spaceman, and I’m with them. He’s already shown enough to justify being a warm order and, crucially, he doesn’t need to find chunks on what we’ve seen. The William Hill 8/11 is the standout price in our odds grid (most firms are 4/6), and while it’s not sexy, it’s fair for a colt with a proper chance of controlling the race. Fahey can ready one first time and second time, and this lad’s profile screams “wins a novice before moving into handicaps”. If you want a straightforward start to your Pontefract racing tips, this is it.
EACH-WAY: Showtown
Jockey: Kevin Stott | Trainer: Kevin Ryan | Form: 8223- | Rating: 81 | Draw: | Weight: 133
Showtown is the honest sort in here. He keeps turning up, keeps hitting the frame, and his rating (81) says he’s not far off the favourite on bare ability. The key is price: he’s 13/2 with bet365 (and 6/1 with William Hill), which looks workable each-way in a 12-runner novice where plenty will be learning on the job. Kevin Stott is a positive booking and Ryan’s horses tend to know their job. He doesn’t have to improve a ton to run into the places again, and if Spaceman underperforms, he’s one of the few you can trust to take advantage.
Danger: Invincible Boy (9/2) has the best published rating in the field (87) and topspeed (75) says he’s no mug.

Betting strategy
Keep it simple: Spaceman is a solid win bet if you can pinch the 8/11. If you want a bit of juice, Showtown each-way makes sense at 13/2+ in a big field where plenty won’t be streetwise. Main threat is Invincible Boy on ratings, so don’t be shocked if he makes the favourite work.

14:27 – Boyzlife Live At Ponte Friday 22nd May Maiden Stakes (GBB Race)
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 4 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
Eight-runner maiden and the betting is basically shouting the answer at you. Arabian Desert rocks up with a triple-figure rating (100) and a proper topspeed (82) while most of these are either unexposed or, bluntly, not good enough on what they’ve shown. Edward Bethell’s Haayimm (rating 68) is the one with the shape to chase him home, and Seattle Chief is at least priced like a secondary player rather than pure rags. The rest? You’re relying on dramatic improvement, and that’s a thin edge when one stands out so violently on the figures. As Pontefract racing tips go, it’s not a punter’s puzzle — it’s a “how short is too short?” conversation.
Top selections
WIN: Arabian Desert
Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: Richard & Peter Fahey | Form: 522- | Rating: 100 | Draw: | Weight: 127
This is the definition of a banker on the day’s numbers. A 100 rating in a maiden where the next-best published ratings are 68 is a chasm, not a gap. Rossa Ryan is a serious asset too — our course data has him 18 wins from 63 at Pontefract, and that’s exactly the kind of rider you want when you’re expected to win. Price-wise, he’s a daft 1/5 with bet365 (and 1/6 all over), so there’s no point pretending it’s value… but he’s also the likeliest winner on the whole card by a distance.
EACH-WAY: Haayimm
Jockey: Callum Rodriguez | Trainer: Edward Bethell | Form: 3- | Rating: 68 | Draw: | Weight: 127
If you insist on playing something at an each-way price, Haayimm is the one I’d rather be with than the bigger-priced guessers. He’s already shown ability (third on debut per the formline 3-) and at least has a rating (68) that says he belongs in this company. The 4/1 with bet365 is as good as it gets in our data and looks fair for “best of the rest” honours. Bethell can get them to improve from first start to second/third, and in a race where several are wildly priced outsiders, being the reliable improver is half the job.

Betting strategy
Arabian Desert is the obvious win bet but at around 1/6–1/5 you either lump it in multiples or leave it alone. For a single-race play, Haayimm each-way is the sensible alternative, essentially betting he’s the one to follow the hotpot home. Don’t overthink the rags.

14:57 – Racing TV Sky Channel 424 Handicap (Div I)
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 5 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
Nine runners, and this is a proper “handicapper’s handicap”: plenty of similar ratings, a few with something to prove, and a market that’s got the main ones in a tight cluster. The tipsters are split across Alpha Capture, Kokanee, Typical Woman and Uppercase, which tells you there’s no single ‘plot’ everyone’s seeing. On raw numbers, Kokanee edges it (rating 87) and has the right age profile to find a bit more. Alpha Capture is solid as a rock and arrives in form (2754-3). Poet’s Dawn is the old boy with the monster topspeed (89) but you’re trusting an 11-year-old to reproduce it. I’m siding with the one with the best blend of rating and price.
Top selections
WIN: Kokanee
Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: Ed Dunlop | Form: 56345- | Rating: 87 | Draw: | Weight: 134
Kokanee rates the clear pick for me. He’s joint-top on official rating (87) and his topspeed 82 says there’s genuine pace in the tank for a Class 5. The other big positive is the human combo: Rossa Ryan is excellent around Pontefract on our data (28.57% win rate), and Ed Dunlop is a trainer-to-note here too (43 runners, 10 wins). The price is tight but fair: 11/4 with bet365. In a race where plenty are exposed, I’ll back the one with the best statistical and stable/jockey profile rather than guessing who’s “well in”.
EACH-WAY: Uppercase
Jockey: Travis Ford | Trainer: Harry Eustace | Form: 3/427- | Rating: 84 | Draw: | Weight: 132
Uppercase is the each-way play because he’s the one who could easily be better than his mark without needing a miracle. That formline (3/427-) reads like a horse who’s been competitive in similar races, and he doesn’t look anchored by the weights at 132. At 5/1 with bet365, you’re being paid to find out, and the Eustace angle is interesting: Harry Eustace sits in our Pontefract trainers-to-note list with a chunky 58.33% place rate from 12 runners. This isn’t a gimme, but he’s the type to run his race and sneak into the frame even if Kokanee proves a bit classy.

I’m playing this as Kokanee to win and Uppercase each-way. If you’re a prices person, note the market has Typical Woman best at 11/2 on Betfair and she’s got tipster support too, so she’s the obvious danger to the staking plan. Keep stakes sensible: handicaps like this can turn on small margins.

15:27 – Racing TV Sky Channel 424 Handicap (Div II)
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 5 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
Another nine-runner handicap and, unlike Division I, there’s a clear focal point: Salaria arrives off 3117-1, is one of the top-rated at 88, and the market has her a confident favourite. There are dangers, but they’re the kind you can map out. Rajapour has the best rating (90) and a monster topspeed (91), but his recent form reads like he’s been a bit hit-and-miss. Latin comes here off a win (464913) and is the obvious “could still be improving” type. Then there’s Mount King — a proven Pontefract operator (9 runs here, 3 wins) who is overpriced if you think course form matters as much as I do at this track.
Top selections
WIN: Salaria
Jockey: Kieran Shoemark | Trainer: Charlie Clover | Form: 3117-1 | Rating: 88 | Draw: | Weight: 134
Salaria is hard to oppose on the profile: she’s arriving in form, she’s a 4yo who can still find a bit, and her rating (88) stacks up very well in this grade. The market agrees — best price is 7/4 on Betfair — and with three tipsters all nailing their colours to her mast, you’re not trying to be clever taking her on. Shoemark is the kind of jockey you want on a strong traveller in a tight handicap, and the one thing I like here is clarity: she’s not a guess, she’s a proper favourite with recent winning form in the book.
EACH-WAY: Mount King
Jockey: David Allan | Trainer: Tim Easterby | Form: 46673- | Rating: 89 | Draw: | Weight: 128
Mount King is the value against the favourite, full stop. He’s actually rated 89 — basically level with Salaria — and he’s got genuine track credentials: 9 runs at Pontefract, 3 wins in our course-specialists list. David Allan knows this place inside out and Easterby does love sending a hardy type to a track that rewards experience. The best price is 15/2 with bet365, which just feels too big for a horse with proven course comfort and a competitive mark. If he’s anywhere near tuned up, he hits the frame more often than that price suggests.

One main play: Salaria win at around 7/4. Then I’m having Mount King each-way because the course record and rating combo doesn’t line up with 15/2 in our odds. Rajapour (best 5/1) is the danger if he turns up in the mood — the topspeed says he can blow this apart.

15:57 – Ponte Premiership New For 2026 Handicap
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 2 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
Thirteen runners in a Class 2 handicap and, yes, it’s a trappy betting heat — but it’s not a total lottery. The first thing I want in a race like this at Pontefract is a horse who either brings top-end speed figures or has a massive course bias in their favour. Purosangue has the standout topspeed on the card (106) and is right in the mix on ratings too. Spartan Arrow has a huge topspeed (104) but arrives off 61-788 and you’re paying for the name. Then there’s Reigning Profit, who is being backed by a stack of tipsters and has outrageous track stats: 8 runs here, 4 wins. At 12/1 best, that’s the kind of Pontefract-specific angle I love taking.
Top selections
WIN: Purosangue
Jockey: Rossa Ryan | Trainer: Robert Cowell | Form: 06640- | Rating: 111 | Draw: | Weight: 132
I’m going to be a bit contrary and say Purosangue is the best win bet in this, even with the recent form not looking pretty. The reason is simple: when the money’s down in sprint handicaps, I want the one with the highest ceiling, and his topspeed of 106 is the best in the field. He’s also right there on rating (111), and Rossa Ryan is a serious positive around this track based on our course data. The 6/1 with bet365 is a fair price in a competitive Class 2; you’re not buying a flawless profile, you’re buying peak ability at a sensible price.
EACH-WAY: Reigning Profit
Jockey: Tom Kiely Marshall | Trainer: Ruth Carr | Form: 878-57 | Rating: 113 | Draw: | Weight: 116
If you’re playing each-way, Reigning Profit is where the value lives. Our reputable data sources have him as a serious Pontefract specialist: 8 runs, 4 wins, plus a 62.5% place rate. That’s not noise — that’s a horse who likes the place. He’s also got a lofty rating of 113 and sneaks in with just 116 on his back. The best price is 12/1 on Betfair, which looks generous given four places are on offer. Loads of tipsters have landed here too, which often tells you the horse is expected to be ready to roll.
Danger: Dark Cloud Rising is a strong favourite (best 5/1) with a 114 rating and a solid topspeed (97) — very easy to see him going close.

This is the kind of race where I want a win bet on class (Purosangue) and an each-way angle on track bias (Reigning Profit). Keep an eye on the market leaders: Dark Cloud Rising is obvious, and Arklow Lad is best at 11/2 if you fancy the younger legs. Four places each-way gives you cover in a big field.

16:27 – Tommy Hepple Memorial Handicap
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 5 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
Thirteen runners again, and this one looks more like a proper spread betting heat. The market leader Starshine Legend is short enough considering he doesn’t have a published rating in our card data, but he has obvious momentum in the formline (71322/) and a decent jockey in Jason Hart. Lightening Company is a course specialist (7 runs here) and is priced as the second favourite, while Fleur De Mer is a solid, consistent type on recent form (393-32) and sits right near the top of the weights with a workable price. With so many runners and no going/distance to hang our hats on, I’m siding with the proven numbers horse for the win angle, and the more obvious market leader as the each-way safety net.
Top selections
WIN: Fleur De Mer
Jockey: Mark Winn | Trainer: Martin Todhunter | Form: 393-32 | Rating: 83 | Draw: | Weight: 125
Fleur De Mer is the one I want onside. She’s got the best combination of published ability and current wellbeing: a rating of 83, recent placed form (393-32), and a weight of 125 that doesn’t scream “handicapper’s got me”. She’s also not overbet; the best price is 11/2 with bet365, which is bang on for a horse who keeps turning up and running to a level. In a 13-runner Class 5, I’d rather back that dependable profile than a short one with missing ratings data in the card.
EACH-WAY: Starshine Legend
Jockey: Jason Hart | Trainer: Olly Murphy | Form: 71322/ | Rating: | Draw: | Weight: 130
I don’t love taking 7/2 each-way, but Starshine Legend might just be the class angle. That form string (71322/) suggests he was improving and holding his form, and Jason Hart is a jockey you can trust to put a horse in the right spot at Pontefract. He’s 7/2 with bet365 (best price in our data), and with four places available, you’re basically betting he runs to something like that profile again. If he’s fit after the break implied by the slash in the form, he’s very likely to be involved.
Danger: Lightening Company is a track regular (7 runs here) and sits right behind the favourite in the market at 5/1.

Betting strategy
In a 13-runner handicap, I want a price with a solid base: Fleur De Mer win at 11/2 fits. If you want an insurance policy, Starshine Legend each-way makes sense because the market is telling you he’s ready. Lightening Company is the obvious spoiler given his Pontefract experience and a competitive 5/1.

17:00 – OAP Free Day Tuesday 21st April Handicap
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 6 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
Fourteen 3yo’s in a Class 6 handicap: translation — chaos is on the menu. This is the sort of race where you can make a case for half the field and still get done by something you barely looked at. That said, the market tends to be a decent guide in low-grade 3yo handicaps early season, and it’s put Liquid Cooled (670-1) and The Tunguska Event (15-741) at the head of affairs. Trucial Pearl is interesting too; the recent form 9-4423 screams “about to win a Class 6” and she’s priced accordingly. Without distances/going, I’m leaning on form momentum and the fact that the top three in the betting all have recent positives.
Top selections
WIN: Liquid Cooled
Jockey: Andrew Mullen | Trainer: Ben Haslam | Form: 670-1 | Rating: 68 | Draw: | Weight: 129
Liquid Cooled is my win pick because he’s the one arriving right on the crest of a wave: that last-time “1” at the end of 670-1 is a massive tell in this grade. A rating of 68 is right up there for a Class 6 3yo handicap on this card, and Andrew Mullen is a jockey I like in scrappy races — he’s positive and tends not to die wondering. The price is solid enough: 11/4 with bet365. In these races I’m happy to side with the most recent winner rather than gamble on a ‘could be anything’ improver.
EACH-WAY: Trucial Pearl
Jockey: Joanna Mason | Trainer: Michael & David Easterby | Form: 9-4423 | Rating: 67 | Draw: | Weight: 123
Trucial Pearl is the each-way special. She’s got exactly the profile you want for a place bet in a 14-runner heat: consistent, edging closer, and not stuck under a big weight. Her rating (67) says she’s good enough to win this on a going day and she gets in with just 123 on her back. The price is fair rather than massive, but 5/1 gives you enough wriggle room. Joanna Mason is a capable pilot in northern handicaps, and the Easterbys know how to place one to be competitive.
Danger: The Tunguska Event has obvious recent form (15-741) and sits second favourite at 5/1.

Betting strategy
This is one for discipline. Liquid Cooled win because the recent win and rating suggest he’s ahead of his mark. Then Trucial Pearl each-way for consistency and a light weight. If you’re looking for a saver, The Tunguska Event at 5/1 is the obvious one to fear.

17:35 – Sue Sheppard Memorial Handicap
Race Details: Distance: | Class: 6 | Going: | Prize Money: | Race Type: flat
Fourteen runners again, and this is a much more open Class 6 than the market suggests at first glance. The top of the betting is crowded: Lucius Aurelius (5/1), Get Up Everybody (15/2) and Harb (17/2) are all in the firing line, then a stack at 8/1. Tipsters have gone for Harb, Jojo Rabbit and Pinjarra, which again screams “competitive”. My angle here is trainer and price. Tristan Davidson is the standout in our trainers-to-note list for Pontefract (30% wins, 50% place rate), and he runs Harb. Meanwhile Sergeant Mayer sits on a nice enough profile (rating 77) and is available at 10/1 best, which is more my kind of each-way in a cavalry charge.
Top selections
WIN: Harb
Jockey: Cian Horgan | Trainer: Tristan Davidson | Form: -35147 | Rating: 75 | Draw: | Weight: 134
Harb is the win bet because the yard is a proper Pontefract one in our data. Tristan Davidson has a 30% win rate here (3 wins from 10), and Cian Horgan also appears in the jockeys-to-note list with a 25% win rate (1 win from 4). That’s not a huge sample, but it’s enough to say they know how to get one ready for this track. The price is fine: 17/2 with bet365. This isn’t a perfect horse — that formline bounces around — but in Class 6 handicaps I’ll happily side with a stable/jockey combo that consistently places horses well at the venue.
EACH-WAY: Sergeant Mayer
Jockey: Alex Jary | Trainer: Nigel Tinkler | Form: 34448- | Rating: 77 | Draw: | Weight: 134
Sergeant Mayer is more interesting than the market suggests. He’s got one of the better published ratings in the race at 77, and his form (34448-) reads like a horse who’s been competitive without everything dropping right. The best price is 10/1 on Betfair, which is appealing each-way given there are four places on offer. Tinkler runners can be feisty but they’re often capable at this level, and if the pace melts down late, a steady, professional type can pick up pieces. At double figures, I’d rather be with him than take 5/1 about a horse with plenty of questions.
Danger: Lucius Aurelius heads the market at 5/1 and could easily just be better treated than most if he runs to his rating.

Betting strategy
Split stakes: Harb win (trainer/jockey course data is the hook), Sergeant Mayer each-way at 10/1 because the rating says he’s in the right place. If you’re following tipsters, note they’ve also put up Pinjarra and Jojo Rabbit — both are priced to be involved, but I prefer the bigger each-way price.

Summary & best bets
If you want the cleanest angle on the card, the day’s NAP is Salaria in the 15:27 — she’s in form (3117-1), priced fairly at 7/4 best, and the tipsters are unanimous which often matters in these northern handicaps. The Banker is Arabian Desert (14:27) on the ratings gap alone, but at 1/5 it’s more a multiples horse than a single-race bet.
For Best Value Bet, I can’t ignore Reigning Profit at 12/1 best in the 15:57. A 50% win rate at Pontefract (4 wins from 8) is elite course-specialist stuff and four places each-way gives you proper cover in a 13-runner Class 2. The Each-Way Special is Mount King at 15/2 best in the 15:27 — he’s nearly favourite on ratings (89), and he’s proven at the track.
Use these Pontefract racing tips sensibly: the maidens are straightforward, the big handicaps are where you play prices and course bias.
