Punchestown Day 2 Tips 2026 - Best Bets Including 25/1 Grade 1 Outsider for Wednesday 29 April

Wednesday at Punchestown sees one of the clashes of the jumps season take place. The Punchestown Gold Cup sees Fact To File and Gaelic Warrior meet for the fourth time this season, with a score to be settled between the Mullins pair.

With seven other races taking place, there is so much action to enjoy. GG tipster provides his best bets for the day, including in the big race. He also has a 25/1 shot to side with elsewhere in Grade 1 company.

Punchestown Racing Tips (Wednesday 29 April)

The second day of the Punchestown Festival includes the Punchestown Gold Cup. With two of the best horses in training battling it out, we take sides in the big race, as well as providing three other tips.

2.30 Punchestown – Thanksforthehelp (1pt e/w – 10/1)

Last year’s winner Thanksforthehelp may prove a horse who has been campaigned for this all season. The nine-year-old was very strong through the finish 12 months ago. An 11lb rise proved too much on return, but he has run solidly in mid-division in every race since. In all of those he has been held up over a variety of trips. The ground may have been on the soft side for him too regularly as well. All told, he is down 8lb this term and is just 3lb higher than for winning this race in 2025. With Rian Corcoran taking off a further 4lb, he can land this prize for Britain again.

4.15 Punchestown – Generous Risk (0.5pt e/w – 25/1)

If Doctor Steinberg settles better, he will be a big danger. Willie Mullins has won this with favourites for the last five renewals. Unusually, compared to its Cheltenham equivalent, this race has been devoid of upsets since 2017. However, there could be one this year in Generous Risk, who is chanced for Gordon Elliott. The Gigginstown-owned six-year-old was solid, but winless in bumpers. He won comfortably on his hurdling bow at Leopardstown upped to 2m5f though. Immediately upped to Grade 2 company, he was then a distant second behind the impressive He’s On Fire at Fairyhouse. That has to be considered a bold effort in heady company though and this further step up in distance may suit even better. He won a 3m point-to-point on yielding ground by 15 lengths, and stamina can prove his forte.

16:15 Channor Real Estate Group Novice Hurdle (Grade 1)

4.50 Punchestown – Dromard (1pt win – 7/2)

The Champion Bumper form might not have been the strongest given the bunched finish. Bass Hunter, third that day, has already blown out at Aintree, so Dromard looks the bet for Willie Mullins. His Cheltenham bumper participants were extremely disappointing given his record, but Patrick Mullins deserts all of those for this five-year-old. The son of Doctor Dino won on debut at Gowran Park the weekend before Cheltenham. That explains his absence from that roster, but he scored by 21 lengths with any amount in hand. This will be his first experience of quicker ground, but he could well prove capable of coping with it.

6.05 Punchestown – Gaelic Warrior (2pts win – 5/4)

With little to split the top two in the Punchestown Gold Cup, the going could be key. Gaelic Warrior and Fact To File have traded blows this term and both have won at the track. However, drying ground may inconvenience Fact To File, so Gaelic Warrior is preferred. The score is 2-1 in his favour between the two this season. That includes a memorable and game John Durkan success here to begin the season. It was Gaelic Warrior who then showed up best in the King George before a rejuvenated Fact To File landed the Irish Gold Cup on soft. The JP McManus-owned nine-year-old missed Cheltenham on account of good ground. That does ensure he comes here fresh, but there is precious little rain in the forecast. As such, the selection, who was so impressive in the Gold Cup at Prestbury Park, should win again. He has had seven weeks to recover from any exertions at Cheltenham either way.
