Four racecourses go to post on Wednesday across Britain and Ireland. Three jumps meetings are joined by one evening all-weather card.
It is to the afternoon jumps meetings that we look to for our Lucky 15 best bets on Wednesday. After three winners and a second on Tuesday, GG tipster Joe Napier picks four tips from Punchestown and Ludlow.
Punchestown Racing Tips (Wednesday 18 February)
Punchestown’s Wednesday action includes a Grade 3 mares’ event. In that race and the preceding one, come our two top tips on the card in Ireland.
2.10 Punchestown – Court Compliance (1pt win – 6/4)
A run of seconds is slightly unnerving with regard to Court Compliance. However, William Durkan’s charge has the best form on offer and conditions should suit him. The selection was beaten in two decent events at this track and Down Royal, seeing off his races well but finding one too good each time. He again found that at Navan last month, but he finished ahead of the He Can’t Dance that day. That is much stronger than anything any of his rivals have to offer. As such, though he could do with proving he can win, he can be backed to do so here.
2.45 Punchestown – Cousin Kate (1pt win – 2/1)
It is a surprise that Cousin Kate is not a shorter price for this Grade 3. Denis Hogan’s mare has by far the best recent form on offer at this distance. The five-year-old secured a hat-trick when winning the Listed mares’ handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival two weeks ago, with that race having proven a very useful guide in recent seasons. She has gone up 26lb for those last three wins, transforming her profile. With that steady level of improvement shown with every start, compared to rivals trending in the opposite direction, she can be confidently backed to take this step up in class in her stride.
Ludlow Racing Tips (Wednesday 18 February)
There are seven races at Ludlow on Wednesday, with our tips coming in races three and four.
3.05 Ludlow – Theonewedreamof (1pt win – 5/1)
Sent to Dan Skelton at the start of this season, Theonewedreamof can win for him for the second time. The mare won over 3m on good ground at Exeter in November on her second run for the yard. She followed that up with a half-length second in a 15-runner mares’ handicap at Cheltenham behind Party Vibes who opposes. A tiny swing in the weights with that winner boosts confidence, as 3m1f on soft would possibly have stretched her stamina. Back on a lower mark, she can continue her renewed progression since joining from Ireland.
3.35 Ludlow – Jacks Parrot (1pt win – 11/4)
This is the easiest race over fences that Jacks Parrot has faced for some time. He has generally run consistently in that time, placing twice in the Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase, as well as the Devon National, in that time. The seven-year-old is experienced for his age and possesses significant stamina. He is now 1lb below his mark when placed in two of the above contests. Although this bare 3m may be on the sharp side at Ludlow, but he will certainly stay the trip. In soft ground, he may simply gallop on the strongest.
