The ITV cameras are at Cheltenham on Friday and Andrew Mount has two Prestbury Park selections amongst his best bets for December 12. He also has two selections from Southwell on what should be an exciting day of action.
Aside from Cheltenham and Southwell, Friday’s Bangor card has been abandoned leaving Doncaster and Dundalk as the other two meetings.
Racing Tips (Friday 12 December 2025)
Andrew is focusing in on the Turners Handicap Chase – the fourth race on the Cheltenham card – for his jumps best bets today with two selections nominated against the field.
1.50 Cheltenham – Gowel Road (1pt win – 11/1 generally) & L’Homme Presse (1pt win – 9/2 generally)
This handicap over the Gold Cup course and distance has been a front-runners benefit in recent years, with seven winners making the running and two more racing prominently. Hold-up horses were just one from 41. The obvious pace angle is the Twiston-Davies-trained Gowel Road, who caught the eye over hurdles here last month when doing well to finish third after racing in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail. The nine-year-old didn’t look a natural in two starts over fences in the early part of the 2022/23 season but it’s worth taking a chance on his jumping. Rather than back him each-way (I feel he’s a win-or-bust type of pick) I’d rather use the other 1 point to save on Venetia Williams’ L’Homme Presse, who should also be close to the front end. The veteran top weight has form figures on left-handed tracks of 11131141 (6-8) and drops into handicap company for the first time since winning the Rehearsal Chase under 12 stone on his comeback in the 2022/23 season.
Racing Tips (Friday 12 December 2025)
The UK Friday evening action comes from Southwell with nine races scheduled on the Tapeta surface. Andrew has selections in two of those nine races.
5.00 Southwell – Donna Nook (0.5pt e/w – 9/1 bet365, three places, Ladbrokes and Coral also paying three places in this seven-runner contest)
Donna Nook, usually a prominent racer, was ridden patiently when runner-up to all-the-way winner Stateira (re-opposes tonight) at Newcastle last time and is worth chancing to reverse the form now fitted with first-time cheekpieces. Her trainer is 13 from 70 (18.6% strike-rate) when using this headgear on the all-weather for a profit of £40.42 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 8.14, A/E = 1.60). She’s yet to score in seven starts for her current yard but her best effort – an 8-1 second of ten in a Class 4 1m fillies’ handicap – came over course and distance.
8.00 Southwell – Havechatma (1pt win – 12/1 bet365)
Havechatma beat only a couple home at Bath in late October on her most recent outing but was 20-1 that day and is 0-11 on turf. Dean Ivory’s mare has a six from 21 record on the all-weather including form figures in Southwell sprints of 61114131 (4-8). The return to this venue will obviously help and she’s worth a bet despite the 43-day break.
