Check out our Day 3 Royal Ascot Tips for Thursday’s racing, where there will be a star-studded seven races on a sparkling afternoon. Our man Steve Chambers looks to point you in the direction of a few winners and he has four big-priced selections to go to war with.
2:30pm Royal Ascot – King George V Stakes
William Haggas saddled Desert Hero to victory in the 2023 King George V Stakes for His Majesty The King and he has the capabilities of training another Royal winner in the 2024 renewal as GILDED WATER looks to have a superb chance. Tom Marquand is set to carry the Royal silks once again and Gilded Water was last seen storming to victory at Chepstow by seven-and-a-half lengths.
That was his third racecourse appearance this campaign, but was the first time that he had got his head in front, so it looks as though the penny is starting top drop and now lining up in his first handicap he has the capabilities of making it two wins on the bounce. The likes of Chantilly and Persica will be notable rivals, but in Gilded Water the Haggas team have a hugely progressive performer that should have no issues with the step up to 1m 3f 211y and for the second year in a row The King can reign at Royal Ascot.

Matthew Sutcliffe’s Royal Ascot Value Punts – Day 3 Selections for the Royal Meeting
It’s day three of Royal Ascot on Thursday 20th June and our Value tipster Matty Sutcliffe is back with his best bets across a hugely competitive day’s racing at the Berkshire racecourse… Published: 1.52pm, Tuesday, 18th June (Prices correct at time of publishing) 2:30 Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2yo) – Loom 25/1 1pt EW…

3:45pm Royal Ascot – Ribblesdale Stakes
A gutsy winner of the Cheshire Oaks back in May, where she got the better of Port Fairy, FOREST FAIRY was expected to run a huge race in the Oaks at Epsom Downs, but Ralph Beckett’s star filly could only finish a disappointing seventh. In the aftermath of the race Rossa Ryan was quick to point out the daughter of Waldgeist struggled with the track that day, so a return to a more conventional track on Thursday for the Ribblesdale Stakes should see her blossom.
There will be some notable rivals including hot favourite Diamond Rain, but Forest Fairy is one that has tremendous battling qualities and if it turns into a battle then she has shown she is battle-hardened having landed the Cheshire Oaks and she can fight her way to victory in this Group 2 event.
4:25pm Royal Ascot – Britannia Stakes
One of the toughest betting heats of the entire week, the Britannia Stakes can often see a Group horse floating around that uses this 1m handicap on the straight course as a springboard to bigger and better things. At the time of writing the bookmakers go 10/1 the field, so it highlights what a titanic task punters have, but the one worth backing MISSION TO MOON for Roger Varian and Oisin Murphy.
Down the field in the Goffs Million in Ireland at the end of last season, the U S Navy Flag colt kicked off this season with a taking win at Goodwood, while he followed up with a second placed finish at Epsom Downs. Both those runs came over seven furlongs and both saw him do all his best work in the closing stages, so a step up to one mile here should bring on notable improvement. He lines up off the same mark as that Epsom run here (92), so if he can gain some luck in running then he could be finishing one of the best and he can at least hit the frame.

6:15pm Royal Ascot – Buckingham Palace Stakes
With a winner on day one of Royal Ascot, Oisin Murphy will be hoping he can taste more success on Thursday and having tipped him up on Mission On Moon in the Britannia, he can also go very close on board the Simon & Ed Crisford-trained AWAAL in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, which completes the day’s action at 6:15pm.
Third in the Royal Hunt Cup 12 months ago over a mile, Awaal drops back to seven furlongs here, but is 3lbs lower in the handicap, so is very attractively handicapped. Placed in the Bunbury Cup and Lincoln Handicap as well, he’s shown he can produce the goods in a big field. He was on the wrong side in the Balmoral Handicap on his last run last season, and this will be his comeback run, so he will need to be in top form, but he’s a class act on his day and he has to be considered.
