Royal Ascot Tips Day 4 - Matthew Sutcliffe's Best Bets for Friday 19 June

Almost every feature race has been an outstanding battle at Royal Ascot 2026. There are still two more days of pulsating action to come from the regal meeting.

Matty Sutcliffe enjoyed an 11/2 winner on Thursday. He has four more selections for you to follow for Friday.

Royal Ascot Tips (Friday 19 June)

Matty has four tips for Royal Ascot’s fourth day, with a 33/1 shot tipped to go well in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup.

14:30 Ascot – Albany Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo) – Acclamation Star 18/1 1pt EW 4 places

Sun Goddess is the obvious candidate here with her form franked by Great Barrier Reef in the Coventry on Thursday, but another who could run well at a price is Acclamation Star, who overcame adversity to win at Bath on debut.

The daughter of Acclamation cost just £10,000 at the sales, but she looked a bargain buy despite being friendless in the market. She settled in midfield from a wide draw and looked outpaced prior to the turn. She switched right to the outside under Finley Marsh, and quickly got the hang of things to bolt up in good style.

She beat the 6/4 favourite there, who was previously behind Love Is on debut. That one was second to the subsequent Coventry fifth Night In Vegas next time out, and the second won comfortably at Ripon next time out.

She’s the mount of Oisin Murphy, and she can outrun her odds for a trainer who’s already had a winner at this meeting.

14:30 Albany Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies)

15:05 Ascot – Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (No Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo) – Havana Hurricane 33/1 1pt EW 4 places

Again, Venetian Sun is the obvious contender having returned to six furlongs in comfortable style after falling to stay the Guineas trip.

However, Havana Hurricane did little to suggest he should be a 33/1 shot on seasonal debut. He proved he had trained on when third in the Carnarvon Stakes. He fared best of those ridden in rear with the two ahead of him always prominent, and he caught the eye staying on late for third under hands and heels.

He reversed the form with Middle Park winner Wise Approach there, and he brings valuable course form after landing the Windsor Castle Stakes here last season. He’s 0-4 since then, but his career best RPR came at this try when meeting minor trouble at Goodwood in the Richmond.

He has to improve again, but he’s from a family that does train on and if coming forward for his reappearance he can be on the premises.

15:05 Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (No Geldings)

15:40 Ascot – Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105) – Emit 13/2 1pt WIN

Connections teamed up to land a winner on Thursday, and Ryan Moore has won this three times since 2019 including on a Joseph O’Brien runner of a similar profile to Emit

The son of Too Darn Hot has been dropped 7lbs this season, but he ran an excellent race when second to Scandinavia at Navan suggesting he’s still in form, and that this drop in trip can suit.

He was ridden in rear thereafter, including when making giant strides on handicap last time out on handicap debut. He was a winner at this trip last season, and second in Group 2 company to Derby third Tennessee Stud.

This has the makings off a well hatched plan, for a yard who’ve been successful with plotting there way through this festival thus far.

15:40 Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) (GBBPlus Race)

17:00 Ascot – Sandringham Stakes (Handicap) (Fillies) (Class 2) (3yo 0-105) – Quiet Mutiny 11/1 2pt EW 6 places

Gavin Cromwell has a tremendous record at this meeting and I thought Snellen could’ve enhanced that yesterday.

I’m glad Gary Carroll returns on his mount this time, as Quiet Mutiny could be thrown in off 91. The daughter of Starman was seen just once last season, sent off the 3/1 favourite at Fairyhouse to beat Precise. The winner has form figures of 111171 now and is rated 115 after three Group 1 events including the Irish 1000 Guineas.

She was well-beaten into second at Cork on seasonal debut behind a very impressive winner, when not knocked about herself over a trip sharp enough. She then stepped up to seven furlongs soon handicap debut off top-weight, and caught the eye strongly at the Curragh staying on late in the day from a wide draw.

Albeit not bred for the mile, she’s certainly shaped as if it would benefit her the last twice and Gavin Cromwell will have primed her for this contest off a mark that could prove very lenient.

17:00 Sandringham Stakes (Handicap) (Fillies)
