Five meetings take place on Tuesday, exactly one week out from the beginning of Royal Ascot 2026. With that festival approaching, now is the best time to be in profit.
Andrew Mount aims to steer you in that direction. He has three best bets for Tuesday, racing at Salisbury and Southwell.
Salisbury Racing Tips (Tuesday 9 June 2026)
At Salisbury’s seven-race card, Andrew has two selections in the same race, the third at the meeting on Tuesday.
3.18 Salisbury – Lodge (0.5pt e/w – 16/1 bet365) & Unico (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 bet365)
The best advice when think about backing a Brian Meehan-trained runner is to give your head a shake and have a lie down in a darkened room. I’ve done that but I still want to side with Lodge in this 6f handicap as she went into my tracker after a 33-1 tenth of 12 at Southwell on her penultimate start (January 30th). The first three winners on that Southwell card raced up with the pace – described by the Racing Post as “prominent towards near side”, “made all” and “raced in second” – which perhaps explains why they went so hard early in race four, the 7f Class 5 handicap which Lodge contested. The four-year-old filly covered the second furlong in 11.51 seconds but limped home in 13.70 seconds in the final furlong, finishing 11 lengths behind the winner Saytarr (“towards rear”). She was poorly drawn towards the stands’ side when a 15-2 eighth of nine to Wreck It Ryley, a six-length winner for this column, in a 6f handicap at Leicester next time and she finished just behind the poorly drawn Savannah Smile who ran second at 28-1 on her next start. Her two other turf runs produced a win and a second place and she’s worth chancing despite a concern about her stall 1 draw on soft ground.
I also want to side with one of the high drawn runners – Unico from stall 9. Chris Gordon’s five-year-old was stuck out wide from a difficult draw when only eighth at Kempton last time and hasn’t had many on slow turf. Her four runs on ground rated as good to soft or slower by Proform have returned form figures of 4391 (1-4) with the win in a fast time for the grade at Brighton last September and the third place at 18-1 over course and distance.
Southwell Racing Tips (Tuesday 9 June 2026)
Seven races take place at Southwell on Tuesday. At the National Hunt card, Andrew has a selection in the fourth contest.
4.00 Southwell – Run Happy (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 bet365)
They went hard up front in the amateur riders’ bumper at Aintree on May 15th in which the first four home, led by 15-2 chance Wise Maiden, were described by the Racing Post as “soon towards rear”, “towards rear”, “towards rear” and “towards rear”. Run Happy (“prominent”) fared best of those to race anywhere near the front end and his 50-1 fifth was a solid effort in the circumstances. The four-year-old, who made the frame in two point-to-points, looks worth a punt on his hurdles debut.
