Sandown & Aintree Racing Tips — GG Lucky 15 Tips for Saturday 6 December 2025

Sandown & Aintree Racing Tips — GG Lucky 15 Tips for Saturday 6 December 2025

Sandown and Aintree headline Saturday’s jumps action, with the Tingle Creek and Becher Chase drawing most of the attention on a busy pre-Christmas weekend.

Fourteen races run across the two cards, and conditions are expected to play a major part at both tracks.

Below, Joe Napier selects four runners for today’s GG Lucky 15 based on form, ground and the strength of each race.

Sandown Racing Tips (Saturday 6 December)

Sandown’s meeting on Saturday features two Grade 1s in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase and the Tingle Creek Chase, however, it is the handicaps we look to for our two best bets there.

1.20 Sandown – Lavender Hill Mob (1pt win – 10/1)

An open edition of this Pertemps qualifier in which Lavender Hill Mob stands out as a useful bet. The Gredley-owned four-year-old sprung a 33/1 upset at Cheltenham last month when upped to 2m5f for the first time and it certainly ensured he left behind some previous form over hurdles. However, he was a winner on the flat off 94 over the summer, as well as third in Listed company, so he was always poised for improvement over obstacles at some point, as he demonstrated at Prestbury Park. That ensured he has now been first past the post (disqualified the other time) on both starts without any good in the going description, which makes it all the more mystifying that connections have not tried soft ground races on more occasions. He is up 8lb in the weights and upped further to 2m7f, but that could bring about even more improvement, while Alex Chadwick is enlisted to take off 3lb; he is riding at a 25% strike rate over hurdles this jumps season.

13:20 Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Pertemps Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB Race)

3.35 Sandown – O’Connell (1pt win – 11/4)

So consistent since joining Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith’s yard, O’Connell looks poised to return to the winners’ enclosure again imminently. He won on his first three starts for his new yard, including over 3m on heavy at Sandown in February, before finishing second in the Eider Chase at Newcastle. However, he has won over 3m3½f, as well as finishing a close third on his return over 3m2f at Carlisle, so long distances clearly suit the nine-year-old well. That reappearance shows he is still fighting fit at a key juncture in his career, with any soft in the going description only likely to aid his chances further.

15:35 Betfair Exchange London National Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Aintree Racing Tips (Saturday 6 December)

The Grand National fences are in operation during Aintree’s seven race card, with our two tips coming in the Becher Chase on the famous course, and in the Listed Juvenile Hurdle.

2.05 Aintree – Edelak (1pt win – 5/2)

The standard is not set overly high by those who have raced over hurdles so far, so if talented flat horse Edelak can transfer most of his ability across, he may take some beating for Dan Skelton. The son of Almanzor got off the mark at the fifth attempt for Johnny Murtagh at Galway in July over 1m4f, doing so decisively by 4½ lengths and was already rated 87 despite having been beaten in four maidens prior, albeit strong ones featuring the likes of St Leger hero Scandinavia, who he was fourth to at Navan. He was beaten by today’s rival Treasure Planet, who was then trained by Donnacha O’Brien, on debut, but subsequently achieved a higher level of form and experience, while it is interesting that Skelton immediately pitches him into Listed company. If his jumping sands the test, he has an excellent chance.

14:05 William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Wirral Juvenile Hurdle (Listed Race) (GBB Race)

2.40 Aintree – White Rhino (1pt win – 15/2)

A chance is taken that White Rhino’s experience in the Grand Sefton over the National fences four weeks ago provides him with the knowhow to claim glory in the Becher Chase. For Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero, the nine-year-old improved from a debut handicap mark of just 74 to a peak of 141 when he won a novices’ handicap chase at Haydock last season, showing so much progression that he contested the Grade  Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton, albeit briefly when unseating at the third. He has been hampered on his last two starts under patient tactics, including when only ninth in the Grand Sefton, but he ended up running on from a lng way back that day, giving hope that he was benefiting from the experience and that the extra 5f he faces here will bring a step forward from his comeback. He has also been given a chance by the handicapper, who has dropped him 4lb down the weights.

14:40 William Hill Half A Mill Becher Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)
