Sandown & Down Royal Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Friday 28 August

Sandown & Down Royal Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Friday 28 August

A whopping eight cards take place on Friday, with the racing coming thick and fast throughout the afternoon and evening.

Andrew Mount has put his keen eye to the test across the Friday cards. He has three tips, running across the meetings at Sandown and Down Royal.

Sandown Racing Tips (Friday 28 August 2026)

Andrew gets out in front of the action at Sandown, with two tips in the first and third races on the card.

2.25 Sandown – Sky Secret (1pt win – 7/2 Sky Bet)

Sky Secret was sent off as the 15-8 favourite for his debut at Leicester in late April, despite his terrible draw in stall 10 of 12 and he did really well to finish fourth despite racing on the stands’ side rail. Plenty of high-drawn runners from that race have won since including Sky Secret himself who bolted up when returned to Leicester next time before his 9-1 fifth of 24 in the Super Sprint at Newbury. The Clive Cox-trained colt has had excuses since – failing to stay 6f when 12th of 18 in a hot nursery at Glorious Goodwood before getting trapped on the rail when a close-up last of five at Windsor and the return to a stuff track will suit.

3.35 Sandown – El Paso (0.5pt e/w – 33/1 bet365)

Alan King has a good record with his second time out juveniles, scoring with 20 of the 184 qualifiers for a profit of £8.90 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£59.33 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 16.49, A/E =1.21). On turf only the score is 15 from 123 for a profit of £39.90 at SP (+£86.63 at Betfair SP). Plenty of the beaten horses, 41 of them, finished second, third or fourth and I’m p3xpecting El Paso to out-run big odds. The son of Waldpfad was outpaced in rear before plodding on into a modest fifth at Ffos Las in a 6f maiden last month and will appreciate the extra furlong this afternoon. Any rain will suit.

15:35 Chasemore Farm EBF Maiden Stakes

Down Royal Racing Tips (Friday 28 August 2026)

There is also a tip from Andrew at Down Royal’s evening jumps meeting on Friday. His tip runs in the penultimate race on the card.

7.22 Down Royal – Knocknagornan Lady (0.5pt e/w – 13/2)

The ground was unseasonably soft at Roscommon’s meeting on August 4th where wide runners enjoyed a huge edge over hurdles, fences and in the concluding bumper. She’ll Be Kept (“raced wide, towards rear”) came home five and a half lengths clear of Mavetherave (“raced wide, midfield”) in the 3m handicap hurdle, with 7-2 favourite Knocknagornan Lady (“in touch with leaders on inner”) can have her modest fourth upgraded given her poor track position. The Cian Hughes-trained seven-year-old is fitted with first-time blinkers today and, having shown form over course and distance and in first-time headgear previously, she looks worth a small bet to bounce back to form.
