There is Group 1 racing to enjoy across Europe this weekend, with Sandown’s biggest flat contest, the Coral-Eclipse, live on terrestrial TV on Saturday afternoon. Seven other meetings ensure there is loads of action to get stuck into on the fay.
GG tipster Joe Napier picks out our lucky 15 tips for Saturday this week. He has a pair of selections each from Sandown and Newmarket.
Sandown Racing Tips (Saturday 4 July)
It is Coral-Eclipse day at Sandown to kick off the weekend. We have two lucky 15 tips elsewhere on the card.
1.50 Sandown – Words Of Truth (1pt win – 3/1)
Asfoora no longer has a Group 1 penalty to contend with at a lower level. However, even her better effort last time at Royal Ascot may leave her vulnerable. Three-year-olds have a poor record in the last five years, but there have been three of that age group in the past decade, and Words Of Truth can join them. The Godolphin runner is not bred to be an out-and-out sprinter. His career has panned out that way though, winning three of his six races at 6f, then seamlessly dropping back to the minimum trip with a course and distance success last month. That was only a Listed race, but he was under a 5lb penalty. Similarly, the sixth has won at that level since. Charlie Appleby’s charge will be finishing quicker than any and can step up in grade.
3.00 Sandown – Pacific Mission (1pt win – 5/2)
One more chance is given to Pacific Mission in this Listed race for fillies. She was talented as a juvenile, finishing second in the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster, then in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies’ Turf. That was top class form which she has not yet matched in 2026. She can be forgiven her return at York given she also ran no race on debut last term. Similarly, her third in the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom is difficult to read given ground conditions. That was still a run that hinted her ability remains. In a more honest race, on better ground, she could still be a filly to follow.
Newmarket Racing Tips (Saturday 4 July)
Newmarket hosts two big races rerouted from Haydock on Saturday. One of our lucky 15 tips runs in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks, with one other selection on the card in handicap company.
2.05 Newmarket – Mythical Bay (1pt win – 9/2)
Arc Ole Ole did well to finish where he did at Royal Ascot, but a further 4lb rise for only a fifth-placed finish asks some questions. Mythical Bay has to contend with a 7lb rise for his recent Newbury win, but that looks fairer. It was at a lower level that he won for the first time this season. He cleared away to win well though, putting four lengths between himself and the runner-up. That second has won since, with the fifth close behind, so the form is solid. The son of New Bay looks worth stepping up to 1m6f on that evidence and may have a lot more to offer.
2.40 Newmarket – Tattycoram (1pt win – 8/1)
Tiffany is well clear on ratings, but the string of 2s in her formbook has reached an unnerving length. While still rated below 100, Tattycoram could well be progressing fast enough to win this Group 2. Ralph Beckett’s filly was placed in Listed company last term, reaching a peak rating of 90. That had dropped 1lb to begin this campaign, but connections still pitched her back into Listed level at Goodwood. It proved a wise decision, as she won well, with the second winning a different Listed race since. The daughter of Camelot looks suited by 1m4f on a decent surface, so could serve it up to the favourite.
