Sandown Racing Tips (Thursday 6 August 2026)
Sandown host a six-race card on Thursday, with the action getting under way at 5.00pm. Andrew’s sole pick at the Esher track comes in the 5.38pm contest.
5.38 Sandown – Menhaal (1pt win – 11/4 general)
Menhaal has been beaten at odds of 10-11f and 6-5f in his two starts to date but there are good reasons for expecting him to leave his previous efforts well behind. Owen Burrows’ juvenile missed the break and ran green when seventh of ten in a 6f Newbury maiden in mid-May where he was not best drawn in stall 6 (first three drawn 1, 2 and 3) and though only fifth of 12 to The Ginger Kid at Nottingham next time he raced on the front end in a pace-collapse 6f novice contest that was teed up for the closers (first three described by the Racing Post as “midfield”, “midfield” and “dwelt start, in rear”). La Fuerza, second best of the prominent racers in eighth (over 6L behind Menhaal) has won since to give the form a boost. The son of Minzaal has been gelded since that effort and looks a likely improver.
Southwell Racing Tips (Thursday 6 August 2026)
A bumper eight-race card takes place on the all-weather at Southwell, with a 5.04pm start. Andrew goes early in the night and has a pick in the 6.06pm race.

Filly Eilish was tempting after her C&D win from stall 1 ten days ago though she was well ridden by Silvestre De Sousa to escape the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail that day and her chance is covered in offers of around 11/4. More interesting is Dream Illusion for Michael Herrington’s yard. The four-year-old clocked a very fast time for Class 5 level when keeping on into the frame at Yarmouth last time, a run that took her turf record to 6365522024 (0-10). She’s four from 18 on the all-weather, including form figures in filles-only handicaps of 144312 (2-6), suggesting each-way claims, especially if you can be on with the firms paying four places.
