Sandown & Wincanton Racing Tips — GG Lucky 15 Tips for Saturday 3 January 2026

Sandown & Wincanton Racing Tips — GG Lucky 15 Tips for Saturday 3 January 2026

There are six horse racing fixtures taking place on Saturday 3 January, but we focus our GG Lucky 15 tips on the live ITV racing at Sandown and Wincanton, as they both host some quality, competitive National Hunt racing.

We have delved through the form guides of both meetings and pick out our selections for both Sandown and Wincanton below.

Sandown Racing Tips (Saturday 3 January 2026)

It all kicks off at Sandown at 12.15pm, but we avoid the opening maiden hurdle and pick out our best bets later on in the day.

1.50 Sandown – Jet Plane (1pt win – 11/4)

Only six runners line up for the 1.50pm contest, but it’s a fascinating veterans event and it can go the way of Dan Skelton’s Jet Plane, who comes into the contest on the back of a win last time out. Having finished a creditable seventh in the Grand Sefton at Aintree, the 10-year-old bounced back to winning ways with an authoritative nine-and-a-half length victory at Leicester last month. He’s been given a 7lbs rise for that success, so a mark of 137 will stretch him, but if he can emulate that Leicester run and look to dominate from a long way home then he can take this prize in style.

3.05 Sandown – Gustavian (1pt win – 7/2)

More veteran action takes place at 3.05pm and some former stars of the staying chasing division line up here, but are certainly not firing on all cylinders like they were in their younger days. The likes of Le Milos, Copperhead and Credo have all struggled for consistency in recent times and are worth taking on with Gustavian, who was a winner last time out for Anthony Honeyball. A runaway nine-and-a-half length winner at Wincanton last time out, where he beat Credo, the 11-y-o has been given a whopping 9lbs rise by the handicapper, so faces a sterner test here. However, he scooted clear that day, and if he can replicate that effort again then he could have his rivals struggling in the closing stages.

15:05 Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase (2025 Stayers’ Veterans’ Chase Final)

3.35 Sandown – Hot Fuss (1pt win – 9/2)

Rated in the mid 90s on the Flat for Tom Dascombe, Hot Fuss has made a pleasing start to his hurdling career and he can land a second Sandown victory in the final race at 3.35pm. A winner of a juvenile hurdle back in December 2024, he was last seen running a huge race when sent off 33/1 for a competitive Ascot handicap hurdle just before Christmas. Having finished ahead of the classy Alexei that day, the five-year-old has only been given a 2lbs rise, so a mark of 125 looks achievable for him, if he can kick on again in what is cracking race to end the card.

Wincanton Racing Tips (Saturday 3 January 2026)

There are seven races that make up Wincanton’s card on Saturday afternoon, with it starting at 12.27pm. Our sole selection for the GG Lucky 15 comes in the 2.40pm race.

2.40 Wincanton – Call Me Legend (1pt win – 4/1)

The Philip Hobbs & Johnson White-trained Call Me Legend was impressive when winning his bumper on debut, but has since failed to get his head in front. Stepping up in trip for the 2.40pm at Wincanton the six-year-old could make a notable bid for victory and is attractively weighted to go close. He was beaten at Taunton last time out, but lines up over 2m 5f for the first time here, and with Jack Stenhouse taking a valuable 7lbs off his back then he could well get his second career success in a trappy betting heat.
