Some excellent racing takes place on Wednesday 16th September, with a brace of listed events coming from Sandown and Yarmouth. It’s those two fixtures we focus on for the Lucky 15 tips for Wednesday, as Steve Chambers picks out his best four bets for the day.
Sandown Tips (Wednesday 16th September 2026)
It’s a 1.45pm start at Sandown for seven races. The listed Fortune Stakes is the feature race at 3.30pm, as some quality 1m performers take their chance in that event.
1.45 Sandown – Zoustar Dreams (1pt win – 7/1)
A winner four starts ago, Zoustar Dreams has struggled of late off a higher mark, but the handicapper has given her a chance in the 1.45pm at Sandown. Dropped 2lbs for a sixth placed finish on the all-weather at Kempton, Ed Dunlop’s charge is now only 2lbs higher than her last winning mark. Oisin Murphy will take the ride, which is a notable positive, and a return to turf could bring on some improvement, in what looks a wide open curtain-raiser to Sandown on Wednesday afternoon.
3.30 Sandown – Crown Of Oaks (1pt win – 16/1)
Cerro Blanco sets the standard for the listed Fortune Stakes at Sandown, but having won at 1/25 last time out, he will need to show more in this event and could be worth taking on. Nahraan is a leading rival, but one that could run well at big odds is Crown Of Oaks for William Haggas. A fine winner of the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot on Champions Day last season, the Wootton Bassett gelding has failed to emulate that run since. He was hugely disappointing last time out, and the tongue tie is removed here. He will need to show that Ascot form to stand any chance, but he could well sparkle at the end of the season, so is worth taking a chance on at big odds.
4.40 Sandown – Mythological Star (1pt win – 7/1)
Daniel & Claire Kubler’s Mythological Star failed to land the hat-trick at Windsor last time out, but that race may have come too soon after a win at Windsor and the further distance may not have aided him. Now, returning after 34 days off the track, the three-year-old will be looking to defy a career high mark of 80 and carry top weight to victory in the 4.40pm. This is a tough contest, but he drops down back in distance for the event, which is sure to play into his favour. With plenty more to come, he’s a really solid option in the contest.
Yarmouth Tips (Wednesday 16th September 2026)
Seven races at Yarmouth begin at 1.56pm, with the listed John Musker Fillies’ Stakes the highlight at 3.41pm. It’s that contest that the fourth selection of the Lucky 15 races in.
3.41 Yarmouth – Rhapsody (1pt win – 5/1)
An excellent runner-up to the hugely progressive Prizeland in a York listed event, Rhapsody can go one better on Wednesday and land victory in the John Musker at 3.41pm. Fourth in the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Ghaiyyath filly has been a real model of consistency this term and is unlikely to bump into anything in the same calibre as Prizeland here. Dropping back in trip could be a huge positive, as she did just struggle to see out the trip at York, but still managed to hold on for second. Plenty of quality fillies line up here, but Rhapsody could be the most solid punting option.
