There are eight race meetings on Saturday, making it one of the busiest days on the calendar. Across Britain and Ireland, there are 58 races to enjoy.
Plenty of those are live on ITV this Saturday too. Matty Sutcliffe has four selections for you to get stuck into, with best bets running at Sandown, York and Chester.
Sandown Racing Tips (Saturday 13 June)
There is Listed action at Sandown on Saturday, though Matty has a tip in the opening race at the Surrey track for you to follow.
13:32 Sandown – Download The BetMGM App Handicap (Class 3) (3yo 0-90) – Quartermaster 7/2 1pt WIN
It would be a surprise if Quartermaster couldn’t prove to be a touch better than an opening mark of 84 having been sent off the 15/8 favourite last time out.
The Sea The Moon colt beat a 4/5 favourite in the same colours on debut at Chelmsford, coming home strongly in good style. He made his seasonal/turf debut at Newmarket on the Rowley Mile and was backed into 15/8 favouritism, but he found little when going down in to the dip to be beaten seven lengths by another Godolphin inmate, and I’m always happy to forgive one run at Newmarket.
He still travelled with promise there prior to weakening, perhaps on account of fitness, and he gave 6lbs to the fifth who ran to an RPR of 83 when winning on Monday. John Gosden has a 20% rate in course handicaps over the last 5 years, and he won this with a handicap debutant in 2019, whose sole win had come on the all-weather and was beaten on seasonal debut.
York Racing Tips (Saturday 13 June)
Across the four races live on ITV on the Knavesmire on Saturday, Matty has two best bets.
13:50 York – Queen Mother’s Cup Handicap (For Female Amateur Jockeys) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 3) (3yo+ 0-90) – Chillingham 5/1 1pt WIN
Several of these need to improve on what they’ve shown of late including Chillingham, who has been well beaten in his three starts for Micky Hammond.
However, he won this race last season (albeit winner was DQ’d) off a 6lbs higher mark under Becky Smith after finishing 13 lengths down the field at Musselburgh on seasonal debut. He wore cheek-pieces at Musselburgh, before being swapped for a visor to won this and Micky Hammond has emulated that method here.
He was only beaten four lengths off 8lbs higher at the Ebor meeting over C&D last season, and I suspect he’ll be primed for this.
15:35 York – Churchill Tyres Supporting Macmillan Sprint Handicap (Class 2) (3yo 0-105) – Advertised 14/1 1pt EW 5 places
A gelding operation and a return to York could see Advertised return to the winners enclosure, having lost his chance at the start at Newmarket last time out.
Prior to that, he ran an excellent race when second on seasonal debut when second to joint favourite Sovereign Spell pulling two lengths clear from the third. The third has franked the form since as has the fourth, now rated 108 after winning the Listed Carnarvon Stakes.
His best effort last season came when fourth in a valuable conditions stakes over C&D, beaten half a length. He remains on better terms with Red Spells Danger on that run, who is the favourite in here, and if improving for the gelding operation he can make a bold bid from a favourable low draw.
Chester Racing Tips (Saturday 13 June)
Class 2 action headlines the Chester action on Saturday. Matty Sutcliffe has a tip in that very race.
14:10 Chester – Ladbrokes Get More With Racing Bet Builder Handicap (Class 2) (3yo) – Penny Time 7/1 1pt EW 3 places
Hugo Palmer won this last season with a horse with a similar profile to Penny Time, who can follow up if overcoming the wide draw in stall nine.
The son of Mehmas was a winner on debut, albeit disqualified for his rider weighing in light, staying on in a strong manner to collar Conclave, pulling six lengths clear of the third. The promoted winner is now rated 97 after landing a 20k Novice at Hamilton last time out.
Penny Time then bolted up at Southwell by four lengths from fellow market leader See Blue, who’s rated 86 after a head second on handicap debut last time out.
He was no match for a potentially smart colt in Goldinthesea next time out, but still ran a credible second. He’s been gelded since then, which further heightens interest given his stablemate won this last season after being gelded. He’ll have no issue if the ground stays on the easy side on pedigree for this turf debut given his dam’s a Group 3 winner on soft ground, and he’s a half sister to the Group 1 Flying Five second Nighteyes, who was also successful on soft ground.
