There’s a hugely competitive renewal of the Stewards’ Cup set to take place on Saturday afternoon on the final day of Glorious Goodwood and our man Steve Chambers takes a look at the latest betting for the six furlong handicap contest.
Runner-up in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot, Dark Trooper will be looking to go one better in this event and he’s currently heading the latest betting at 6/1, but below him there’s a whole host of contenders that have to be considered huge players in what will see a bumper field go to post.
Archie Watson’s Albasheer was a fine winner at Ascot last weekend and the six-year-old could look to make a quick turnaround and he’s an 8/1 chance, while Andrew Balding’s Purosangue will drop back into handicap company having finished ninth in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot and third in the Coral Charge, but at 10/1 he has to be respected.
Another runner that was a winner at Ascot last time out was Owen Burrows-trained Fair Wind and that runner is 16/1 with the bookmakers, while at the same price is Sergeant Wilko, who won a big handicap event at Newmarket on his last start and looks to have the potential to bring on more improvement.
Mick Appleby’s Billyjoh is another that ran a huge race at Royal Ascot when third in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, but he failed to follow up in the International Stakes at Ascot last time out, so he’s available at 20/1.
Such is the competitiveness of this race last year’s winner Aberama Gold is as big as 25/1 with some bookmakers to retain his crown, while dual Royal Ascot winner Rohaan and Seven Questions are another pair on offer at 25/1, at the time of writing.
