Taunton Racing Tips (Thursday 12 February 2026)
Six races begin at 1.05pm, but you have to wait until 3.25pm for Andrew’s best bet on the card at Taunton.
3.25 Taunton – Aurigny Mill (1pt e/w – 11/1 bet 365, 10/1 generally)
Aurigny Mill has a good record at Taunton – form figures of 2123 (1-4) – and the outsider of the field is taken to reward each-way support in this competitive handicap hurdle. Robert Walford’s nine-year-old has some useful speed figures on heavy ground and looks set to encounter the required decent gallop His four career wins have come when described as “held up” and the race wasn’t run to suit when third to Celtic Art (re-opposes today) over a longer trip here last time. The key to winning over hurdles on heavy ground at Taunton is to stay wide and, hopefully, Harry Kimber – profitable to follow on the yard’s hurdlers, will plot a wide course.
Chelmsford Racing Tips (Thursday 12 February 2026)
Chelmsford provides the late afternoon, early evening action and it’s a 4.55pm start on the all-weather. Andrew has two selections, which run in the 5.30pm and 6.30pm races.
5.30 Chelmsford – Numero Vingt (1pt win – 3/1 generally)
Numero Vingt clocked a useful time when fifth to Pilu in a Salisbury novice contest on his debut last summer, keeping on well after a slow start and running green to finish five and a half lengths behind the winner. There are mixed messages from that form but the switch to Polytrack looks ideal for the son of Mehmas and he’s been gelded since that debut run. Archie Watson has a fine record on the all-weather with newly-gelded runners, scoring with 31 of the 88 qualifiers (35.2% strike-rate) for a profit of £49.70 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 17.47, A/E = 1.77). Current favourite Manly Fireball, trained by Richard Hughes, could also improve for gelding but, at the prices, I’d rather play the Watson runner.
6.30 Chelmsford – Carlton (1pt win – 9/4 generally)
Carlton is a standing dish at Chelmsford where his record reads 11111512 (6-8), with the runner-up effort by a short head and the fifth place excusable as he got shuffled back in a big field (12 ran) before staying on well to finish less than two lengths behind the winner. James Owen’s six-year-old faces only six rivals this evening and should encounter a decent gallop thanks to the presence of pacesetter Tryfan.
