It remains to be seen if Hawkbill will take his chance in the Group 1 Coronation Cup at 3.10pm today owing to ground concerns, but if he does than he is worth backing at 10/1. We also have one for Donny this evening to kick the weekend off….

The Statesman – Commander and Mudallel are a solid enough pair at the top of the market for this 1m maiden, but there is nothing too intimidating about their form and The Statesman can use his experience to run a big race at double figure odds under Phillip Makin. He may be vulnerable to improvers, but has produced good speed figures across his four starts to date and if fit on seasonal debut, Ian Williams’ charge is unlikely to be far away.
Hawkbill – Sweated up badly before his run at Newbury last time out but travelled and quickened up very nicely from the front to score handsomely. A lot has been made of his need and love of soft ground, not least by trainer Charlie Appleby, but it wasn’t long ago Appleby said he would be every bit as good a horse on genuinely good ground too. Sure, a heavy shower or three this morning would make him a more confident pick, but at 10/1 is remains worth having on side.
