Leg 1: 1.50pm – BetVictor Geoffrey Freer Stakes

Leg 1 Selections: (1) Al Aasy

An impressive Group 3 winner of the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood last time out, Al Aasy should prove too classy for his four rivals in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury, which kicks off the day’s racing at 1:50pm. The William Haggas-trained raider has been a class act this season and if he can emulate his Goodwood run then should cruise to victory for favourite backers.

Leg 2: 2.25pm – Play The BetVictor Predictor Handicap

Leg 2 Selections: (9) Sarah’s Verse

Last of four at Windsor last time out, Sarah’s Verse has been given a notable drop in the handicap, so could be a lively outsider for the 2:25pm contest. A winner at Ffos Las three starts ago off a mark of 72, she lines up off 74 here, so has been given a drop of 3lbs. That victory came over six furlongs, so she’s sure to be doing all her best work at the finish over five furlongs here and she can sneak in the frame.

14:25 Play The BetVictor Predictor Now Handicap

Leg 3: 3.00pm – TPT Fire Handicap

Leg 3 Selections: (10) Waleefy

There’s a real mixture of talents lining up at 3:00pm with the 11-year-old Documenting and 10-year-old Accidental Agent taking on some young, emerging handicappers. And it’s one of the three-year-olds that takes the eye in the shape of Waleefy for William Haggas. Wins at Newmarket and Doncaster from his last three starts has seen him improve significantly and there still looks potential to kick on again. He won by two lengths last time out and another 8lbs rise will give him a tougher task, but he looks to be capable of kicking on further and he’s the one to side with.

Leg 4: 3.35pm – BetVictor Hungerford Stakes

Leg 4 Selections: (1) English Oak

A spectacular winner of the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, English Oak was well fancied to follow up in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but could only finish fourth. Ed Walker’s charge remains in Group company for his next start on Saturday and is well fancied for the Hungerford Stakes at 3:35pm. He’s yet to prove he is a Pattern performer, but he was miles ahead of his rivals in that Ascot event and this looks a little easier than his Goodwood assignment, so he can strike gold here.

15:35 BetVictor Hungerford Stakes (Group 2)

Leg 5: 4.05pm – British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes

Leg 5 Selections: (10) Fitzmaurice

It’s been a terrific season for Wathnan Racing and they will unleash another runner in the 4:05pm maiden on Saturday in the shape of Fitzmaurice, who lines up for William Haggas and will have James Doyle in the saddle. A race won last year by Dancing Gemini, who turned out to be smart, Haggas’s son of Wootton Bassett could be a smart juvenile this season and go on to bigger and better things in 2025.

16:05 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (GBB/IRE Incentive Race)

Leg 6: 4.40pm – Chapel Down Handicap

Leg 6 Selections: (10) Bas Bleu

Winless in seven career starts, Ed Walker’s Bas Bleu will be hoping it’s eighth time luck in the last race of the Tote Placepot at 4:40pm. Despite not getting her head in front the daughter of Masar has finished in the first three in four of those seven races, so she has shown some notable ability. Third on her first start on the turf at Sandown last time out, she’s sure to improve for that experience and she can revel on the grass this weekend and is likely to be a big-priced runner in leg six.
