Plenty of meetings have already fallen foul of the midweek weather, but Kempton’s all-weather surface will prove fit to purpose for the Tote Placepot on Saturday. With five races live on ITV, Joe Napier looks to land the Placepot at the Surrey course.
If you’re new to the Tote, you can get £30 in Free Bets when you sign up using the link below and place a £10 bet.
Leg 1: 1.30pm
Leg 1 Selections: (2) Harry Did
Plenty should be learned in the opener at Kempton with a few of these potentially nice types. HARRY DID is the selection for the Placepot, as his 6f form at Newcastle on his second start at two was encouraging. He had run over 7f on debut at this track, finishing fifth of ten, but was runner-up afterwards at the north-eastern venue behind a winner who has gone in again since. Stall two should be the plum draw and he looks a decent price with every chance of going close.
Leg 2: 2.05pm
Leg 2 Selections: (1) Many Tears, (4) Enola Grey
None of this field boast particularly outstanding credentials, which means some chances need to be taken. MANY TEARS is the only filly carrying a penalty having won a Listed race for Ger Lyons on her final start for him in Ireland. She did that comfortably, but it was relatively out of the blue having only finished third off a mark of 79 before that. Her form had been progressive on the all-weather though and she would not need to better that on her first start for James Ferguson to go close.
ENOLA GREY may be the other worth having on side, as though she has a bit to do on ratings, she has won her last two starts impressively on artificial surfaces and a couple in this field have won contests of this nature from less of a platform.
Leg 3: 2.40pm
Leg 3 Selections: (3) Intinso
Though this is a plentiful enough field, it feels more than likely the two atop the betting will be strongly involved here. Old Harrovian arrives off a long lay-off having disappointed in Group company, but could still reach that level. However, the best recent form belongs to INTINSO, who striped away with a handicap at Wolverhampton in mid-March and can cope with an 8lb rise having only had six career starts to date; he is still open to significant improvement.
Leg 4: 3.15pm
Leg 4 Selections: (5) Spirit Mixer, (14) Circuit Breaker
Sweet Fantasy is one of the most opposable favourites of the weekend with her all-weather form of 450 being off marks significantly lower than that which she’ll race off here. She has been in great form over hurdles, but this is a different proposition.
CIRCUIT BREAKER is the first of the duo I’ll be taking her on with. The four-year-old is very unexposed as a stayer and if not inconvenienced by the switch to Jonjo O’Neill’s yard, looks likely to continue on an upward curve, having won over course and distance in September.
He is only 6lb higher for that win, while SPIRIT MIXER was second to Trueshan in the 2022 Northumberland Plate off 97. He is now off 96 having raced just three times in the interim, but was beaten under two lengths off a mark of 100 at Newmarket not long after that Newcastle second, and he should come on bundles for his recent outing at Lingfield. He is still only six years old, so his days as a staying handicapper are far from over.
Leg 5: 3.45pm
Leg 5 Selections: (2) Devoted Queen
It is possible that her reputation and 1,000 Guineas entry have ensured her price is more prohibitive than it should be, but DEVOTED QUEEN should still be winning this if she is to make into any kind of Group race filly. Her maiden victory at Newmarket was quite taking and the form looks decent, so she should have enough to step forward and defeat these, with quotes below 25/1 for the first fillies’ Classic almost certain to arrive if she does.
Leg 6: 4.25pm
Leg 6 Selections: (1) Notable Speech
It’s not the most glamorous way to end the PLacepot, but a second successive Godolphin odds-on shot should deliver the goods, as NOTABLE SPEECH’s most recent success received a massive boost when the runner-up won in Listed company at the weekend. He had dispatched that rival relatively comfortably in spite of traffic problems over course and distance, so while he is a speculative entry for the 2,000 Guineas (currently 66/1 best price for the race), he looks set for bigger things sooner rather than later.
