There’s some competitive racing taking place over the Jumps at Wincanton and Ludlow on Thursday 15 January, and it’s those two National Hunt fixtures that we head to for Thursday’s Lucky 15 selections.
We preview both meetings below and pick out our best bets from both fixtures, as we look to find some winners.
Wincanton Racing Tips (Thursday 15 January 2026)
A bumper eight-race card will take place at Wincanton, kicking off at 12.07pm and going through until 4.10pm. The highlight is the Somerset National at 3.37pm with seven runners going to post, in what will be a real war of attrition.
12.07 Wincanton – Major Fortune (1pt win – 7/2)
Prolific over hurdles in his younger days, Major Fortune may not have progressed as the Skelton team had hoped in recent seasons, but he should be more than capable of landing the novices’ handicap chase at Wincanton at 12.07pm. Last seen finishing eighth at Haydock, he had previously ran well when finishing fourth at Cheltenham over a shorter trip, and if he can repeat that run here in a lesser contest then he should go very close. Dropping down to class 4, he’s also been given a 2lbs lower mark for this contest, and with cheekpieces applied he can sparkle off a mark of 117.
3.02 Wincanton – Oh My Johnny (1pt win – 6/1)
Ben Clarke’s A Perfect Day is hugely unexposed and may prove to be a lot more progressive than the rest of his rivals in the 3.02pm, but he will have to contend with another 6lbs rise for a recent win, so could be vulnerable. Oh My Johnny sits at the bottom of the weights for this contest for Philip Hobbs and Johnson White and was second last time out, but has been surprisingly dropped 1lb by the handicapper. He will need to improve on that effort, but is still pretty lightly-raced and is open to building on a mark of 118 in this competitive-looking event.
3.37 Wincanton – Iron Bridge (1pt win – 13/2)
A classy five-length winner at Exeter last time out, Isaac Des Obeaux is entitled to be thereabouts in the Somerset National at 3.37pm. However, the Paul Nicholls-trained raider will have to contend with a 6lbs higher mark, so may just find it tough in the closing stages to dominate once again. One towards the top of the weights that can land a blow is Iron Bridge, who appeared to recapture some form last time out when second at Carlisle. The former Welsh National runner-up has shown he relishes these huge tests of stamina, and he’s only been put up 1lb by the handicapper for that Carlisle run, so if he can build on that effort then he has to come into calculations. Still 6lbs lower than when he was second in the Welsh National, Jonjo O’Neill’s star is the selection in what will be an energy-sapping renewal.
Ludlow Racing Tips (Thursday 15 January 2026)
Kicking off at 12.32pm, Ludlow’s seven-race card will see three hurdle races, three chases and a bumper, with the latter ending the card at 4.02pm.
12.32 Ludlow – Shot Boii (1pt win – 13/8)
It’s been two years since David Pipe’s Shot Boii has got his head in front, but he’s been slipping down the handicap in recent seasons and he could well be capable of landing the opening race at 12.32pm off a mark of 95. Having been out of sorts recently, he shaped much better last time out when second at Wincanton, where he was comfortably beaten. However, Pipe’s charge pulled over three lengths clear of the third that day to suggest there could be more in the locker and in this pretty mediocre curtain-raiser then the Pond House runner can claim glory.
