Wincanton Racing Tips & Predictions – Wednesday 1st April 2026

Seven races at Wincanton today and, while we’re missing the official going and distances in the card data, the shape of the programme is crystal clear: a couple of small-field novice events up top, then handicaps where course know-how and reliable jumping can trump raw “paper” ability. These Wincanton racing tips lean heavily on our data analysis: ratings/topspeed, trainer-jockey strength at this track, and the market where it’s doing something interesting.

The standout course specialist is Universal Secret (11 runs here, 3 wins, 72.73% place rate) which is a proper Wincanton profile, not just a line in a formbook. On the rider front, Harry Cobden is the headline act (397 rides here, 29.97% winners, 65.99% placed) and he’s got live chances across the card. Don’t ignore Rian Corcoran either: 9 rides, 4 wins (44.44%) and 77.78% placed — small sample, big impact. Trainer-wise, it’s the usual: Paul Nicholls (300 runners, 25.33% wins) is a Wincanton monster, and his runners are priced accordingly, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still nick value elsewhere in these Wincanton racing tips.

14:20 – Bath & West Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race)

Race Details: Distance | Class 4 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps

This is a neat little five-runner novice where the market has basically called it a match. On our numbers, it’s not just hype either: Grand Vendetta brings the top rating (125) and a strong topspeed (101) and he’s got the Wincanton ace in his corner with Harry Cobden. The obvious threat is Sogna In Grande, who has the best topspeed in the field (102) and a lofty rating (122) off just the one run shown. Amatchmadeinheaven has winning form in the string (1-01) but is giving away plenty on ratings. With only two places each-way and short prices, it’s a win-only race — and it’s about whether you think the Nicholls/Cobden favourite is a roll-over job. I do.

Top Selections

WIN — Grand Vendetta
Jockey: Harry Cobden | Trainer: Paul Nicholls | Form: 21 | Rating: 125 | Draw: | Weight: 166

Grand Vendetta rates the clear pick on our data: top-rated in the field (125) and he’s right up there on topspeed too (101). In a five-runner novice, class and control matter, and the Nicholls/Cobden axis at Wincanton is about as ruthless as it gets — Cobden is 29.97% here in our course data and Nicholls is 25.33% with his Wincanton runners. He’s available at 8/13 with bet365, which isn’t for romantics, but it’s the right price if you just want the most likely winner. I’m not getting cute opposing him in a small field.

Betting Strategy

Small field, so keep it simple. Grand Vendetta is a straight win bet or a leg for multiples. If you’re hunting value rather than probability, the only one who can make this interesting is Sogna In Grande at 9/4, but you’re betting on potential rather than proven superiority. No each-way angles here.

14:50 – Bridles Care Home In Wincanton Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: Distance | Class 4 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps

This is more like it: eight runners, a proper handicap puzzle, and the prices make more sense for punters. Jukebox King heads the market around 9/4 and, on our figures, it’s fair — joint-top rating (112) and a 100 topspeed that says he’s not short of pace for this grade. The twist is that a lot of these are inconsistent: Geezer Rockstar has dreadful recent form figures and a low topspeed (61), while Gold Link is a 10yo who’s been busy (topspeed 86) and might just be what he is now. Matthias is interesting at 4/1 with bet365 because he’s the type who can improve for a run of racing after time off (42/355 in the form string) and he’s down at 108 rated — not miles off the principals.

Top Selections

WIN — Jukebox King
Jockey: Tom Bellamy | Trainer: Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls | Form: 444 | Rating: 112 | Draw: | Weight: 167

Jukebox King is the percentage play. He’s got the joint-best rating in the field (112) and a topspeed of 100, which is bang on for winning a Class 4 handicap hurdle like this. The market agrees (best price 9/4 with bet365), but I still think he’s the most solid option because he doesn’t need a miracle: just a clean run and running to his numbers. Tom Bellamy is a plus in these tactical Wincanton races too — he’s not the sort to panic early. In a field full of questions, I’ll back the horse with the fewest.

EACH-WAY — Matthias
Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies | Trainer: Anthony Honeyball | Form: 42/355 | Rating: 108 | Draw: | Weight: 163

Matthias isn’t flashy, but he’s priced like he’s got no chance and that’s wrong. At 4/1 with bet365 in an eight-runner race with three places each-way (1/5), you’re effectively betting on him being involved — and his 108 rating leaves him close enough to the principals if one or two underperform. Sam Twiston-Davies is always a jockey I want on side in handicaps, and he’s got strong course numbers in our data (53.57% placed at Wincanton). Honeyball’s runner looks a proper each-way “grinder” rather than a win-only boom-or-bust.

Betting Strategy

Back Jukebox King win if you want the solid profile with the right speed figure. If you’re playing each-way, Matthias makes sense with three places on offer. Keep stakes sensible: this is a handicap and a few of these can bounce back, but plenty have form that screams “in-and-out”.

15:20 – Bridles New Luxury Care Home Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Race Details: Distance | Class 4 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps

Six runners, two places, and it looks a proper winner’s race rather than an each-way heat. The market has Law Of Supply marginal favourite, but our data analysis leans to Golan Loop who has the best blend of current form and raw performance: that 112 topspeed is the standout in the field and he’s joint-top on rating (124) without being asked to concede a ton of weight. Muskoka has an even bigger topspeed (115) but arrives off a P and you can’t pretend that’s ideal. Broomfields Cave is very capable on figures (125 rating, 109 topspeed) but also has a P in the recent string. With Ignore The Door shown as a non-runner in the odds, it’s even more about picking the one who’s most likely to actually complete and perform.

Top Selections

WIN — Golan Loop
Jockey: James Bowen | Trainer: Warren Greatrex | Form: -121P3 | Rating: 124 | Draw: | Weight: 168

Golan Loop is the bet. That 112 topspeed is a proper edge in this field and tells you he’s got the cruising speed for Wincanton when the race starts to lift between fences. Yes, there’s a P in the recent form (-121P3), but he bounced back with a third last time in the sequence and I’d rather back the one who’s shown he can return to form than a horse who needs everything to fall right. The price is the clincher: you can get 10/3 with William Hill which looks generous given he’s right there on the key numbers.

EACH-WAY — Muskoka
Jockey: Ben Jones | Trainer: Emma Lavelle | Form: U4224P | Rating: 125 | Draw: | Weight: 166

Muskoka is the “if he behaves, he hits the frame” play. Our data has him joint-top on rating (125) and he’s got the best topspeed in the race at 115. That’s why he’s still single figures despite the messy recent profile (U4224P). In a six-runner race the each-way is limited (two places, 1/4), but 6/1 on Betfair gives you a fair crack at place money with upside if the favourite and one other underperform. Ben Jones is a steady pair of hands and Lavelle’s are often better than their recent form suggests.

Betting Strategy

Win-only is the sensible approach in these small-field chases unless you’re taking a proper price. Golan Loop is my win bet at 10/3. If you must have a saver, Muskoka each-way at 6/1 is acceptable given his topspeed edge, but remember: two places means you’re basically betting him to be top two in a race where one mistake can end you.

Race Details: Distance | Class 5 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps

Seven runners, three places each-way, and the market is screaming that this revolves around Walkinthepresent. It’s hard to argue: he’s got the top rating (100) and a solid topspeed (86) and comes in off a winning sequence in the form string (068331). Behind him, Square Du Roule has a better topspeed (88) and a matching rating (100), while Harry Junior arrives with winning form (-92181) and is priced like the main danger. Nicholls’ It’s A Breeze looks one-paced on our numbers (topspeed 71) and needs to find more. This is one of those races where the favourite might just be better than these — and in Class 5s, if you’ve got momentum, you can bully them.

Top Selections

WIN — Walkinthepresent
Jockey: Dylan Johnston | Trainer: Neil Mulholland | Form: 068331 | Rating: 100 | Draw: | Weight: 163

Walkinthepresent is hard to oppose. He’s the clear market leader and, crucially, he’s not just a “short one” off vibes — our data has him top-rated (100) and his 86 topspeed stands up well for the level. Dylan Johnston is a serious Wincanton jockey in our course numbers too: 9 rides, 3 wins (33.33%) and 66.67% placed. You can grab 13/8 with Sky Bet, which is the standout price against a cluster of shorter quotes elsewhere. In a novice limited handicap, I’ll side with the one in form who looks like he’s still improving.

EACH-WAY — Square Du Roule
Jockey: Harry Cobden | Trainer: Nigel Hawke | Form: 214248 | Rating: 100 | Draw: | Weight: 160

Square Du Roule is the each-way safety net. He’s rated the same as the favourite (100) and he’s actually got the best topspeed in the field at 88, so ability isn’t the issue. The question is consistency (214248), but in a seven-runner race with three each-way places, you don’t need perfection — just a clean enough run. Harry Cobden up is a massive plus at this track (29.97% wins; 65.99% placed in our data) and 4/1 on Betfair gives you a workable each-way angle.

Betting Strategy

This is one of the stronger favourites on the card: Walkinthepresent win, and I’d happily build around him in multiples if you like that sort of bet. For a bit of cover with three places on offer, Square Du Roule each-way makes plenty of sense, especially with Cobden doing Cobden things around Wincanton.

16:20 – Bridles Care Home In Wincanton Handicap Chase

Race Details: Distance | Class 5 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps

Seven runners, three places each-way, and finally we get to bring the course specialist angle properly into it. Universal Secret has an excellent Wincanton record in our reputable data sources: 11 runs here, 3 wins and a huge 72.73% place rate — that’s not a coincidence. The market, though, has latched onto Kingcormac (10/3) after a sequence of wins (-17311) and he’s got a tidy topspeed (99). Applicationofcash is another in-form type (P-3551) with 105 topspeed and a seriously strong course jockey in Rian Corcoran. This is a race where I can see the favourite running well… but I’m not convinced he’s the best bet at the prices when there’s proven Wincanton DNA available.

Top Selections

WIN — Universal Secret
Jockey: Robert Dunne | Trainer: Helen Nelmes | Form: 43-PP1 | Rating: 110 | Draw: | Weight: 146

This is the bet I want most on the day. Universal Secret has the Wincanton profile you dream of: 11 runs, 3 wins, 72.73% placed in our course specialists data. He’s also not some old relic — he comes in off a win in the form string (43-PP1), his rating is a fair 110, and his topspeed (101) is right in the mix. At 9/2 with bet365 he’s being priced like an ordinary contender when the track record screams “specialist”. If he runs to his Wincanton level, he goes very close.

EACH-WAY — Applicationofcash
Jockey: Rian Corcoran | Trainer: Gordon Treacy | Form: P-3551 | Rating: 112 | Draw: | Weight: 151

Applicationofcash is the each-way angle because the jockey stats are loud. Rian Corcoran’s Wincanton numbers in our data are ridiculous: 9 rides, 4 wins (44.44%) and 77.78% placed. Combine that with a 112 rating (top of this field) and a 105 topspeed and you’ve got a runner who should be in the first three more often than not. The best price is 18/5 with Paddy Power. That’s not a “monster” number, but it’s fair value given the rider’s course record and the horse’s recent win.

In these Class 5 chases, I want a horse who knows the place and will jump. Universal Secret is the win bet and it’s one of the strongest angles in our Wincanton racing tips because the course record is so solid. For each-way cover, Applicationofcash makes sense with Corcoran’s course stats. If you’re playing forecasts, those two can be paired.

16:50 – Bridles New Luxury Care Home Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: Distance | Class 5 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps

Twelve runners, four places each-way, and this is where you can actually play the book rather than the horse. Victory Shout is favourite at 5/2 and comes here off a win in the form string (P-09P1), but the profile is as flaky as it looks — he’s been all over the shop recently. Walk In The West is second in at around 7/2 best and has a workable rating (105) but again, the form (8-00P2) screams “finally woke up”. If you want a pure numbers angle, Bread And Butter has the best topspeed in the field (103) but he’s 40/1 and 11 years old, so you’re betting on a throwback. Each-way value is the game here, and the one priced too big for the place terms is Prince Rhinegold: 8yo, 93 topspeed, and a recent sequence ending 2 (-00252) that suggests he’s knocking on the door.

Top Selections

WIN — Victory Shout
Jockey: Paddy Hanlon | Trainer: Syd Hosie | Form: P-09P1 | Rating: 100 | Draw: | Weight: 164

I’m going to take the obvious win option rather than pretend this is a race for certainties. Victory Shout is top of the market for a reason and the best price 5/2 with bet365 is perfectly workable in a 12-runner Class 5 where plenty have little upside. His rating is 100, his topspeed is only 77 which isn’t sexy, but he’s the one arriving off a win and sometimes in these low-grade hurdles, confidence and momentum count for more than a fancy figure. If he repeats that latest effort, he’s right there.

EACH-WAY — Prince Rhinegold
Jockey: Sean Houlihan | Trainer: Linda Blackford | Form: -00252 | Rating: 101 | Draw: | Weight: 145

Prince Rhinegold is a proper each-way bet in a race set up for it: 12 runners and four places at 1/5. He’s got a 101 rating, a decent topspeed of 93 (one of the better figures in the field), and he comes here on a run of form that culminated in a second (-00252). He’s also a Wincanton regular: 6 course runs and a 33.33% place rate in our specialists table. The price is solid at 5/1 across the firms — fair for win, and attractive for the place terms.

Danger: Walk In The West has a higher rating (105) than most and is best-priced 7/2 with William Hill, so he’s a clear threat if backing up that recent second.

Betting Strategy

This is a race to use the each-way terms. I’m happy to play Victory Shout win at 5/2, but the smarter bet for many punters is Prince Rhinegold each-way with four places. If your bank is small, go each-way only and avoid trying to be a hero in a 12-runner Class 5.

Race Details: Distance | Class 5 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps

Eight-runner bumper to finish and, as ever, you’re trying to weigh one piece of solid form against a pile of unknowns. Beau Speed has the key advantage: he’s already shown ability with a second in his form line, and our data has him rated 116 with an 87 topspeed — that’s miles clear of the only other runner with a published rating, Lissahane Lass (94, topspeed 47). Add in Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden — two names that regularly turn Wincanton into their own private venue — and you can see why he’s odds-on. For the each-way, I’d rather take a swing at one of the shorter-priced debutants than the longshots with nothing to hang your hat on, and Crock’s Bottom is the obvious one at 4/1 given Joe Tizzard likes a bumper horse that can actually move.

Top Selections

WIN — Beau Speed
Jockey: Harry Cobden | Trainer: Paul Nicholls | Form: 2 | Rating: 116 | Draw: | Weight: 156

Beau Speed looks a banker on the numbers and the connections. He’s the only one with both a strong published rating (116) and a respectable topspeed (87), and he’s in the hands of Nicholls and Cobden — a pairing that does serious damage at Wincanton in our course data (Nicholls 25.33% wins; Cobden 29.97% wins). The market isn’t daft: 5/6 with bet365 is the best of it and it’s not massive “value”, but in a bumper full of guesswork I’d rather side with the one who’s actually shown up once already.

EACH-WAY — Crock’s Bottom
Jockey: Brendan Powell | Trainer: Joe Tizzard | Form: | Rating: | Draw: | Weight: 149

As an each-way bet, Crock’s Bottom is a pragmatic swing at a horse priced like the clear second string. You’re getting 4/1 with bet365 in an eight-runner race with three places (1/5), which means you don’t need him to be a superstar — just competent and competitive. Brendan Powell is a savvy jockey in these races and will give him every chance to travel. Is it guesswork? Of course. But it’s controlled guesswork at a fair price in a race where plenty are 10/1+ with no public evidence at all.

Betting Strategy

Keep it tight in bumpers. Beau Speed is the win bet and the most logical “banker” on the card given he’s the one with meaningful figures. If you want interest without taking on the favourite, play Crock’s Bottom each-way for the three places and hope he’s the best of the newcomers.

Summary & Best Bets

It’s a card where the market gets a lot right, but there are still a couple of proper angles if you’re playing smart. For me, the day’s strongest bet is the track specialist: Universal Secret at 9/2 in the 16:20. A 72.73% place rate at Wincanton across 11 runs is the kind of evidence you can actually lean on, and it’s exactly the sort of profile these Wincanton racing tips are built to exploit. The “banker” is probably Walkinthepresent in the 15:50 — he’s the right favourite with the right jockey (Dylan Johnston has strong course figures) and you can still nick 13/8 with Sky Bet.

The NAP of the Day is Universal Secret (16:20) WIN. The Best Value Bet is also Universal Secret at that 9/2 quote — the market has not fully priced the course data. Banker: Walkinthepresent (15:50) WIN. And the Each-Way Special is Prince Rhinegold (16:50) EACH-WAY with four places, a 93 topspeed and recent placed form. Use this as your framework and don’t overbet the bumpers or the messy handicaps — that’s how you turn good Wincanton racing tips into profit.
