On our numbers, it’s not just hype either: Grand Vendetta brings the top rating (125) and a strong topspeed (101) and he’s got the Wincanton ace in his corner with Harry Cobden. The obvious threat is Sogna In Grande, who has the best topspeed in the field (102) and a lofty rating (122) off just the one run shown. Amatchmadeinheaven has winning form in the string (1-01) but is giving away plenty on ratings. With only two places each-way and short prices, it’s a win-only race — and it’s about whether you think the Nicholls/Cobden favourite is a roll-over job. I do.

I’m going to take the obvious win option rather than pretend this is a race for certainties. Victory Shout is top of the market for a reason and the best price 5/2 with bet365 is perfectly workable in a 12-runner Class 5 where plenty have little upside. His rating is 100, his topspeed is only 77 which isn’t sexy, but he’s the one arriving off a win and sometimes in these low-grade hurdles, confidence and momentum count for more than a fancy figure. If he repeats that latest effort, he’s right there.
