Four flat meetings take place in Britain on Thursday, with six races taking place at each. Just the one card takes place in the afternoon at Beverley, with the majority of the action saved until the evening after one of the hottest afternoons of the year.
GG tipster Joe Napier is on hand with our Thursday lucky 15 tips. He has selections at both Windsor and Salisbury.
Windsor Racing Tips (Thursday 13 August)
Two class 3 races make for a competitive evening card at Windsor on Thursday. Three of our lucky 15 tips run at the Berkshire track.
6.41 Windsor – Colourband (1pt win – 5/2)
He only has one win in seven starts, but Colourband has been kept busy in good races this season. The Crisfords are in superb form as their partnership nears an end, striking at 30% over the last two weeks. Colourband’s most recent run was just outside that time range, when he was second at Ayr. He is up 2lb for that effort, but may have bumped into a progressive winner. Before that, he was well-held in strong three-year-old contests at Sandown and Chester, the first of which saw him finish behind Royal Ascot winner Lost boys. He had previously won a Bath novice by four lengths though. In what looks to be lesser company here, he can rediscover a winning spark.
7.11 Windsor – Partying (1pt win – 6/4)
The 88-rated Waterford Castle is now 0/10 for his career. George Boughey’s charge will eventually take advantage of this sort of company, but may happen across another lively rival here in Partying. Amo Racing’s expensive purchase have not been horses to set your watch by. Even so, a staggering 4,400,000gns were spent on this daughter of Frankel. It has taken her a while to make a racecourse, but they were likely waiting for a perfect opportunity. This could easily be one against four rivals that have shown little, and an experienced favourite who cannot buy a win. If she has half as much talent as her price tag suggests, she has a big chance.
7.41 Windsor – Auld Toon Loon (1pt win – 8/1)
The feature handicap on the card can go to the relative veteran Auld Toon Loon. The seven-year has displayed his best form in his two years racing for Tom Dascombe. At his best, he rose a stone in the handicap, even contesting Listed company at Lingfield. He has won at Bath and over course and distance for the yard to date. The most recent of those came at this meeting one year ago. He is back off the same mark, having lost by just half-a-length off 2lb higher here in May. His eighth of 22 in the John Smith’s Cup at York most recently was a cracking effort from an inopportune position. Back at a venue he loves, a third win for Dascombe can be achieved.
Salisbury Racing Tips (Thursday 13 August)
Salisbury’s Thursday evening card does not have the lustre of Listed action as Wednesday’s did. However, there is still some high quality racing to be had, with one of our lucky 15 selections running in the penultimate heat.
7.34 Salisbury – Counter Intuitive (1pt win – 5/2)
Three horses arrive chasing hat-tricks or four-timers here. Green Sky and Liveinthelight are respected, but Counter Intuitive may still have the most in hand. The Frankel colt hails from an exemplary family, but was slow to begin his racing career. He may have needed his debut last season, and his return this term. His improvement since has been notable, winning at Thirsk on his third career run, then making light of his handicap debut on the July Course last month. His acceleration was far from immediate; Billy Loughnane needed to encourage him from a fair way out. However, he was well in control by the line and a 4lb rise may look light, with his stamina assured.
