16:53 – Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Fillies’ Handicap

Race Details: 1m 4f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat

This looks a fairly interesting little Class 5 rather than a deep one, with the three-year-olds taking on some exposed older mares and fillies over a proper 1m4f test. Lady Magu arrives with the most obvious upside after getting off the mark last time, while Desert Belle has already shown useful staying handicap form and comes from a yard that knows exactly how to place one in this sort of race. Rose Cotton has been admirably consistent without getting her head in front, and Ghost Story is another reliable type who should give her running again. The puzzle is whether the younger fillies have enough in hand to shrug off the older brigade, and on balance that looks the likeliest angle in a race where improvement should count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. Lady Magu – 9/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Ray Dawson | Trainer: Roger Varian | Form: 551 | Rating: 79 | Topspeed: 24

Lady Magu is the one I want to be with because she looks the runner with the most room for progress. That 551 profile tells its own story: she was learning on the job before getting the job done last time, and this step into handicap company over 1m4f could easily bring out a bit more again. Roger Varian’s three-year-olds are rarely thrown in blind, and an opening mark of 79 doesn’t scream harsh in a race like this. Draw 9 is not ideal around here, but if Ray Dawson can slot in without burning petrol, she has the classiest profile in the field. At 9/4 she is short enough, but still the percentage call. Bet type tag: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Desert Belle – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Luke Morris | Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott Bt | Form: 2143 | Rating: 79 | Topspeed: 63

Desert Belle makes plenty of each-way appeal at 11/2 because she already looks thoroughly suited by a staying test and her profile is solid for this grade. The 2143 form reads well enough in the context of this race, and that topspeed figure of 63 is one of the more persuasive numbers on offer. Sir Mark Prescott is hardly a trainer to underestimate with lightly raced middle-distance fillies, and Luke Morris is the right man if this turns into a proper stamina examination from some way out. She may not have the sexy unexposed angle of the favourite, but she is reliable, well treated enough, and looks very likely to be in the shake-up. Bet type tag: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Lady Magu is the win play because she looks the progressive one and may still be ahead of the assessor. Desert Belle is the each-way punt in a nine-runner race with three places, as she brings a dependable staying profile and should give you a run for your money. Rose Cotton and Ghost Story are the obvious dangers if the younger fillies fail to improve as expected.

17:25 – Free Tips On attheraces.com Restricted Maiden Stakes (Bands C And D) (GBB Race)

Race Details: 6f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary restricted maiden on paper, but it is still competitive enough with a few lightly raced 3yos bringing the most persuasive form. George Wickham sets the standard among those with experience after his runner-up effort, while Sugar Sugar has already shaped like a filly ready to win one of these and Deadline is another with a workable level of form. Thorpe Green and Eveninginparis add a bit of intrigue as unexposed types from respected yards, and that could be where the market focuses. Plenty of the remainder need a sizeable step forward, while a couple of the bigger-priced runners have shown very little so far. In short, it is not a deep race, but it is a slightly tricky little puzzle because the newcomers could still have a say.

Top Selections

1. Sugar Sugar – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: George Bass | Trainer: Jack Channon | Form: 93 | Rating: 67 | Topspeed:

Sugar Sugar makes plenty of appeal in a race where proven form may count for plenty. She has already shown ability in both starts, and the step forward from ninth to third suggests she is learning her job quickly enough. A mark of 67 puts her right in the mix, and unlike some of these, she has at least demonstrated that she can be competitive in this grade. Draw 12 is not ideal over this sharp 6f, but if George Bass can slot her in early, she looks the one most likely to run her race. Available at 7/2, she makes plenty of sense as the solid option. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Deadline – 17/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Cieren Fallon | Trainer: Warren Greatrex | Form: 66 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed:

Deadline is the each-way angle at a fair enough price. The bare form figures do not leap off the page, but a rating of 71 is actually one of the better numbers in the field and suggests he has shown more under the bonnet than the results alone imply. He is drawn well enough in 6, and Cieren Fallon is the sort you want in a race where track position and timing can make all the difference around Wolverhampton. He does need to improve to win, but in a race full of guesswork after the principals, 17/2 looks workable for a colt who should be staying on late if this is run properly. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Sugar Sugar is the straightforward win play, arriving with the most convincing recent piece of form among the exposed runners. Deadline is the each-way punt at a price, with his rating giving him a better chance than his form figures suggest. George Wickham is the obvious danger, while Thorpe Green and Eveninginparis are the unexposed threats if the market has them right.

17:55 – attheraces.com/marketmovers Handicap

Race Details: 6f | Class 4 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat

This is a competitive little 6f handicap with a strong three-year-old presence against older, more exposed sprinters, and that often proves the right angle in midsummer Wolverhampton races. Night Storm brings the most obvious recent form in the older division and has the handy draw to attack from stall 2, while Aigeas and Manly Fireball arrive as progressive three-year-olds still on the up. Jumeirah Sands also fits that profile, though stall 10 is no gift over this trip around here. A few at bigger prices, notably Charlie Mason and Rogue Supremacy, have bits and pieces to recommend them, but several others look high enough in the weights or too inconsistent for comfort. It’s a proper betting race rather than a penalty kick, but the younger legs may well decide it.

Top Selections

1. Aigeas – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Harry Davies | Trainer: Oliver Cole | Form: 18-051 | Rating: 88 | Topspeed: 74

Aigeas makes plenty of appeal as the solid win play. He got back on track with a victory last time and that form string of 18-051 suggests a colt beginning to work things out rather than one who has already shown his full hand. He carries 135, gets in here off 88, and as a three-year-old he still has more scope than many of these battle-hardened older sprinters. Drawn in 6, Harry Davies should have options rather than excuses, and this doesn’t look a deeper race than the market implies. At 7/2 with Bet365, he looks the percentage call in a race where improvement could be the key. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Charlie Mason – 8/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Marco Ghiani | Trainer: Tony Carroll | Form: 427716 | Rating: 88 | Topspeed: 63

Charlie Mason is the one that appeals most as an each-way punt. Stall 1 is a definite plus over this sharp 6f, and although he couldn’t back up his win when only sixth last time, that came after a sequence suggesting he was in rude health. Tony Carroll’s sprinters are often at their best when kept busy, and Marco Ghiani is well suited to these tactical all-weather sprints where track position matters. He’s not obviously thrown in off 88, but he is reliable enough to run his race and this contest has just enough dead wood in it for 8/1 to look fair. He doesn’t need to improve much to hit the frame. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Aigeas is the win bet as the most likely improver in the field and the one with the right profile for a Class 4 Wolverhampton sprint. Charlie Mason makes more appeal than most at the prices for an each-way play from the inside draw. Night Storm is the obvious danger if getting a clean run from stall 2, while Manly Fireball is another progressive type worth respecting.

18:25 – Download The At The Races App Maiden Stakes (GBB Race)

Race Details: 7f | Class 3 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat

This looks a useful enough 2yo maiden for Wolverhampton, with a mix of solid early form and a few interesting debutants from yards that know the time of day. Wilbur sets the standard on what he has achieved already, arriving with form figures of 43 and a lofty 82 rating for this level, so he is the obvious one they all have to beat. That said, he is hardly getting a walkover. Waakabb and Costa Verde are both prominent in the market on debut, while La Fuerza has shown enough in two runs to suggest a step forward over 7f on Tapeta could bring him right into it. Parvenue Star also has a better opening run than the bare seventh suggests. Strong race for the grade, and not quite the penalty kick the bare ratings might imply.

Top Selections

1. Wilbur – 11/4 with Betfair

Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: Harry Eustace | Form: 43 | Rating: 82 | Topspeed:

Wilbur is the one with the standout credentials and, in truth, he will do for me. He has already shown a fair bit in two starts, improving from fourth to third, and that 82 rating gives him a clear edge over the exposed runners in here. For a maiden at this track, that is proper substance. Billy Loughnane is a major asset around Wolverhampton and this draw in 9 should still allow him to slot in and travel. At 11/4 he is not exactly hidden from the market, but he still looks a fair price if reproducing his previous level. Unless one of the debutants is notably above average, he holds the strongest claims.

Bet: WIN

2. La Fuerza – 8/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Harry Davies | Trainer: Simon & Ed Crisford | Form: 83 | Rating: 67 | Topspeed:

La Fuerza makes plenty of each-way appeal at the prices. He has already shaped with promise in both starts, and that latest third was a step in the right direction after an educational debut. The Crisford team are always worth respecting when placing juveniles, and this move into a 7f Tapeta maiden could suit a colt who looks as though he wants a little more than a sharp sprint. He does need another chunk of improvement to trouble Wilbur on the figures, but in a race where some of the shorter-priced newcomers are still taking plenty on trust, 8/1 looks the value angle for a place and possibly a bit more.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Wilbur is the straight win play because he brings the best established form and sets a solid standard for the field. For an each-way punt, La Fuerza makes more appeal than the unexposed market principals at the prices. The obvious dangers are Waakabb and Costa Verde on debut, while Parvenue Star could easily step forward from his first run.

18:55 – Free Bets On attheraces.com Handicap (Div I)

Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat

This looks a proper Wolverhampton handicap rather than a race packed with hidden stars, but it is still competitive enough. Adelaide Bay brings the strongest recent piece of form after a runner-up effort and is drawn well enough to attack from stall 4, while On Key has been knocking on the door and should get a lovely run from the inside gate. Fistral Beach is another with solid enough recent figures, though stall 9 asks a bigger question, and Sanditon is weighted to get involved if things fall right. Plenty of these know how to run well without getting their head in front, which makes this a slightly tricky puzzle, but the pace and draw should matter plenty over this 7f on Tapeta.

Top Selections

1. Adelaide Bay – 5/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Stevie Donohoe | Trainer: Jane Chapple-Hyam | Form: 088252 | Rating: 74 | Topspeed: 57

Adelaide Bay makes plenty of appeal in a race of this depth. He arrives off the back of a solid second and, crucially, that came after a sequence suggesting he was edging back into form rather than regressing. An official mark of 74 gives him a narrow edge on the figures and stall 4 should allow Stevie Donohoe to keep things uncomplicated in what is often a tactical sort of contest here. At 5/2 he is hardly hiding from the market, but this is one of those races where the obvious one may simply be the right one. He holds strong claims if reproducing that latest run. Bet: WIN

2. On Key – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Kieran O’Neill | Trainer: Scott Dixon | Form: 252323 | Rating: 70 | Topspeed: 66

On Key is the each-way angle because he keeps running his race and has the profile of one who should be thereabouts again. That string of placed efforts is not glamorous, but it is dependable, and his Topspeed figure of 66 is one of the better numbers in the line-up. Drawn 1, Kieran O’Neill should be able to secure a handy position without wasting ground, and in these Class 6 events that can be half the battle won. He does need to prove he can finish the job, which is why he is not the win selection, but 7/2 still looks fair for a horse with such an obvious place chance. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Adelaide Bay is the straightforward win play after shaping like one ready to cash in, and he has fewer doubts than most in this line-up. On Key is the sensible each-way punt from a perfect draw given how consistently he has been hitting the frame. Fistral Beach and Sanditon look the main dangers if getting the right trip.

19:25 – Free Bets On attheraces.com Handicap (Div II)

Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary Class 6 on paper, but there is one obvious focal point in Classy Clarets, who arrives seeking the hat-trick after back-to-back wins and has landed the inside half of the draw again. The question is whether the market has him about right at cramped odds in a race that still has a bit of depth. Homme De Fer has been knocking on the door all summer and is the solid yardstick, while Victory Sound has shaped as though another race of this nature is well within range. Cooramook is another who keeps running his race. With two non-runners already out, the shape is a little cleaner than it first looked, but it is still not a race to get too clever in.

Top Selections

1. Classy Clarets – 5/6 with Bet365

Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: Iain Jardine | Form: 324511 | Rating: 77 | Topspeed:

He is very hard to oppose. Those last two wins were achieved in the manner of a horse who has found his level and may not be done yet, and although a 6lb rise demands more, this is not a deep heat for the grade. Stall 2 is another plus around here, and Billy Loughnane is exactly the sort you want on a prominent, in-form handicapper at Wolverhampton. At 5/6 with Bet365 you’re not stealing anything, but he has the strongest recent form in the line-up and the clearest profile of all. He sets the standard and deserves favouritism. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Homme De Fer – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Marco Ghiani | Trainer: Tony Carroll | Form: -33335 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed: 65

If you want a sensible each-way angle against the favourite, this one makes plenty of appeal. He has been admirably consistent, with three straight thirds before a respectable fifth last time, and that Topspeed mark of 65 is one of the better numbers on offer in this field. Tony Carroll’s runners are often seen to good effect in these all-weather handicaps, and from stall 5 Marco Ghiani should be able to get him into a handy rhythm. He does have the look of one who finds one or two too strong, but at 11/2 he is still the percentage play for a place and is capable of making Classy Clarets work. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple: Classy Clarets is the win bet and looks the most likely winner if reproducing either of his last two efforts. For an each-way punt, Homme De Fer is the solid alternative given his consistency and reliable speed figure. Victory Sound appeals most as the danger if building on his recent placed runs.

19:55 – Follow @attheraces On X Handicap

Race Details: 1m 4f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat

This is a low-grade staying handicap but not a hopeless one, with a few arriving in the right nick and a couple of unexposed 3yos adding intrigue. Luan is the obvious starting point after scoring last time and he’s the one they all have to beat if building on that, though he’s short enough in a 12-runner Class 6. A Daughters Love has done nothing wrong in winning her last two and looks the main threat getting weight as a progressive 3yo, while Wonderful Wendy and Nala The Lioness have recent placed form that gives them each-way credibility. It’s not a deep race in quality, but it is a proper betting heat because the favourite is solid rather than bombproof.

Top Selections

1. Luan – 13/8 with Bet365

Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: James Ferguson | Form: 560-91 | Rating: 63 | Topspeed: 18

Luan looks the percentage call. He had been shaping quietly before getting off the mark last time, and that form string of 560-91 suggests a horse who has taken a step forward now switched into this sort of company. James Ferguson places his runners well and Billy Loughnane is exactly the rider you want in a Wolverhampton handicap, especially from stall 3 where he should be able to hold a handy position without wasting ground. At 13/8 he isn’t a giveaway in a race of this nature, but he has the fewest questions to answer and holds strong claims of following up. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Wonderful Wendy – 7/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Joe Leavy | Trainer: James Evans | Form: 0-562 | Rating: 63 | Topspeed: 31

Wonderful Wendy appeals as the each-way play in a race where several have bits and pieces of form but not many arrive knocking loudly on the door. She was a fair second last time and that effort came after a sequence of runs suggesting she was getting the hang of things again. Off the same mark of 63, with a decent middle draw in 4, she should get a sensible trip and this extra test looks workable on paper. At 7/1 with four places on offer, she makes more appeal than some of the shorter alternatives because she looks solid enough to be involved if reproducing that latest run. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Luan is the win bet because he brings the cleanest recent profile and still looks capable of better in this grade. Wonderful Wendy is the each-way option at the prices, especially with four places available in a 12-runner field. The main danger is A Daughters Love, who is clearly progressive, while Nala The Lioness also has enough recent form to get involved.
