17:24 – Cavani Signature Style Handicap
Race Details: 1m 4f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This looks a fairly ordinary 3yo Class 6, but it is still an interesting little contest because there are a couple arriving with momentum. Kakirra is the obvious one after back-to-back wins and is clearly the horse they all have to beat, while Grindleton has been shaping as though a race of this nature should fall his way sooner rather than later. Make It Up is another with a low weight and improving recent efforts, and Port Darwin has bits of form that make him competitive if things drop right. It is not a deep race and there are a few exposed types already, so this may come down to who stays the trip best and who can find a bit more improvement on Tapeta. Kakirra sets the standard, but there is enough depth underneath to make this no gimme.
Top Selections
1. Kakirra – 11/8 with Bet365
Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: Ollie Sangster | Form: 64711 | Rating: 67 | Topspeed: 40
Two wins on the bounce make Kakirra the solid one here and, in a race lacking much proven depth, that counts for plenty. She has clearly improved for handicaps and is doing the right things now, arriving here after consecutive victories from marks lower than this. An opening rating of 67 still does not look punitive if there is a bit more to come over this staying trip, and Billy Loughnane is exactly the sort you want aboard in these Wolverhampton handicaps. At 11/8 she is hardly a hidden gem, but she is the progressive sort in the field and very much the one to beat. Bet: WIN
2. Make It Up – 13/2 with Bet365
Jockey: Harry Davies | Trainer: William Knight | Form: 090-33 | Rating: 63 | Topspeed: 56
Make It Up looks the value play if you want something at a workable each-way price. The bare form does not scream certainty, but those last two third-place finishes suggest he is getting the hang of things now, and his Topspeed figure of 56 is the best in the field. Drawn in stall 1 with just 8st 9lb to carry, he should get a good economical trip, and this does not look any stronger than the races he has been running in. William Knight’s runner is not obviously thrown in, but at 13/2 he has enough in his favour to make plenty of each-way appeal against a short-priced favourite. Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Kakirra is the win bet because she is the only runner bringing clear upward momentum into the race and she sets the standard on recent form. For an each-way punt, Make It Up makes more appeal than the rest thanks to his low weight, inside draw and solid recent efforts. Grindleton is the obvious danger if building on his latest second.

18:00 – Sky Sports Racing Virgin 512 Classified Stakes (Div I)
Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This is the sort of low-grade classified where solid recent evidence counts for plenty and, despite a full field of 10, it doesn’t look especially deep. Mintana and Sanditon dominate the market for obvious reasons, with both bringing workable ratings and more convincing form than most of these. Diligent Henry isn’t bombproof but has shown enough in similar company to get involved, while Star Of Atlantis has the best Topspeed figure in the line-up and could easily outrun his price if things fall right. After that, you’re looking at plenty with something to prove: Mister McGregor has gone cold, Pacific Prince is inconsistent, and the three-year-olds Imthequeenofsheba and Petes Diamond need improvement. Tricky enough for places, but the winner should come from the principals.
Top Selections
1. Sanditon – 5/2 with Bet365
Jockey: Jack Mitchell | Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Form: 966965 | Rating: 58 | Topspeed: 46
There’s nothing flashy about Sanditon, but in a race like this you don’t always need flashy. He’s one of the more reliable operators in the field, his mark of 58 is near the top of the pile, and stall 1 around Wolverhampton over 7f is no bad place to be if Jack Mitchell can get him organised early. The recent form figures don’t scream winner, but they do suggest he’s been holding his level in slightly stronger races than this, and this drop into classified company gives him major appeal. At 5/2 he isn’t a giveaway, but he does look the percentage call.
Bet: WIN
2. Star Of Atlantis – 6/1 with Bet365
Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: Adrian Wintle | Form: 7-9858 | Rating: 55 | Topspeed: 50
Star Of Atlantis makes more each-way appeal than a few shorter in the betting. The recent figures are hardly compelling at first glance, but a Topspeed of 50 is the best on offer here and that hints he has enough ability to make a race of this if putting it together. Billy Loughnane is an eye-catching booking in this grade and this gelding has the sort of profile to travel better than most before being produced late. He doesn’t have the solidity of the favourite, but 6/1 is fair in a race where plenty have exposed limitations. He looks the value each-way punt.
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Keep it simple: Sanditon is the win play in a race lacking depth, with his consistency and draw making him hard to oppose. Star Of Atlantis is the each-way alternative at a more workable price, especially with three places on offer. Mintana is the obvious danger if bouncing back from a lesser latest run, while Diligent Henry is another to consider for exotics.

18:30 – Sky Sports Racing Virgin 512 Classified Stakes (Div II)
Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This is not a deep classified by any means, but it does look fairly straightforward on paper. Filey Beach arrives chasing a hat-trick after back-to-back wins and is the one with momentum in a race full of exposed sorts who have had plenty of chances. Frankali is the interesting alternative, mainly because he gets plenty of weight as the only 3yo near the head of the market and has Oisin Murphy booked. Bungle Bay is usually thereabouts at this level and the inside draw helps, while Dr Ali has bits of recent form that give him a squeak despite being stuck widest of all. Most of the others look reliant on a revival, so the race may simply come down to whether Filey Beach can keep rolling in a weak contest.
Top Selections
1. Filey Beach – 8/11 with Bet365
Jockey: James Sullivan | Trainer: Ruth Carr | Form: 0-8411 | Rating: 70 | Topspeed: 24
He is very obviously the one to beat. Two wins on the spin in this grade tell their own story, and unlike plenty of these he comes here in form rather than trying to rediscover it. An official mark of 70 leaves him clear of this field on paper, and while this is never the sort of race to get carried away in, he has been doing what matters most: finishing his races off and beating the horses put in front of him. James Sullivan knows him well and Ruth Carr’s runners tend to keep ticking over once they hit a vein of form. At 8/11 he is no giveaway, but he is still hard to oppose. Bet: WIN
Bet: WIN
2. Bungle Bay – 7/1 with Bet365
Jockey: Joe Leavy | Trainer: James Evans | Form: -80582 | Rating: 60 | Topspeed: 48
For an each-way angle, Bungle Bay makes more appeal than most. He shaped well enough when runner-up last time and, in a race where plenty arrive out of sorts, that piece of recent form stands out. Stall 1 is a useful asset around here over 7f if he can hold a position early, and he has the experience to cope with the rough-and-tumble of this level. He is a 7yo, so nobody should be pretending there is loads of untapped potential, but he is consistent enough for these races and 7/1 looks fair for a horse who should give you a decent run for your money if repeating his latest effort. Bet: EACH-WAY
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Keep it simple. Filey Beach is the solid win play and looks the most likely scorer in a poor race. Bungle Bay is the each-way punt at a workable price, especially from the inside draw after a decent second last time. The obvious danger is Frankali, who gets weight as a 3yo and has the right jockey aboard, while Dr Ali is another with place claims if coping with the wide stall.

19:00 – Follow @attheraces On Instagram Restricted Novice Stakes (For Horses In Bands B, C And D) (GBB Race)
Race Details: 6f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This looks a fairly ordinary restricted novice on paper, but it is still an interesting little puzzle because there are two very obvious players at the head of the market and not much depth behind them. Mr Noble sets the standard after winning on debut and is clearly the one they all have to beat if building on that promise, while Navertity brings the unknown factor on first start for a yard that can ready one. Manly Fireball has been busy and consistent enough to make his presence felt again, and he looks the solid form horse against rivals who have either shown only modest ability or none at all. Cool Doc Boy has a bit of placed form and may improve on Tapeta, but plenty of the rest look up against it. It is not a deep race, though the betting should tell its own story.
Top Selections
1. Mr Noble – 11/10 with Bet365
Jockey: Clifford Lee | Trainer: K R Burke | Form: 1- | Rating: 76 | Topspeed: 47
There is no great mystery about him: he won first time up and now returns for a yard that knows exactly how to place a young sprinter. That opening mark of 76 gives him very solid claims in this company, and while the bare Topspeed figure is not flashy, debut winners often have more in hand than the raw number suggests. Draw 9 is not ideal over this trip at Wolverhampton, but if Clifford Lee can get him into a sensible rhythm early, class may simply carry him through. At around 11/10 he is short enough, but in a race lacking strength beneath the principals, he is still hard to oppose. Bet: WIN
Bet: WIN
2. Manly Fireball – 11/4 with Paddy Power
Jockey: Finley Marsh | Trainer: Richard Hughes | Form: 32-372 | Rating: 78 | Topspeed: 58
He has the look of the dependable each-way angle in a race where plenty of these have shown very little. Manly Fireball has been knocking on the door, arrives with the best published rating in the field, and his recent second suggests he is ready to capitalise if the favourite underperforms. Stall 1 is a definite plus over 6f here, and Richard Hughes-trained sprinters tend to know their job well enough in these novice events. He does not have the same scope as an unexposed sort, but he has more hard evidence in the book than most and the 11/4 on offer makes him the percentage call for those wanting cover against Mr Noble. Bet: EACH-WAY
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Keep it simple. Mr Noble is the win play because he already has the most convincing piece of form in the race and this is not a deep novice. Manly Fireball is the sensible each-way punt from a handy draw, especially with his consistency and solid rating. Navertity is the obvious danger on debut, while Cool Doc Boy is not entirely dismissed if taking a step forward.

19:30 – attheraces.com/marketmovers Classified Stakes
Race Details: 1m | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This is the sort of low-grade mile where the younger legs may count for plenty, but there are a few exposed older handicappers in here who keep threatening to nick one. Lady Of Clover, Sorted and Knightmare bring the most convincing recent form into it, with the first two 3yos looking especially interesting now dropped into classified company. Ciotog is solid enough at this level but has become expensive to follow, while Lady Delila has bits of placed form that give her an each-way squeak from a good draw. It is not a strong race by any means, but it is a trappy one because several arrive with similar ratings and only modest winning habits. In a contest like this, a bit of upside matters.
Top Selections
1. Lady Of Clover – 9/4 with Bet365
Jockey: Liam Wright | Trainer: George Scott | Form: -87363 | Rating: 57 | Topspeed: 43
She looks the percentage call. Her recent figures are not flashy, but they are solid in the context of this race and that latest third suggested she is knocking on the door in ordinary company. A mark of 57 leaves her right in the mix, and unlike plenty of these she still has some scope to do better over this trip. George Scott’s filly has been learning on the job and this classified event is a much more realistic opening than some of the races she has been contesting. At 9/4 with Bet365, she is not a hidden gem, but she is the one with the clearest set of claims. Bet: WIN
2. Lady Delila – 14/1 with Bet365
Jockey: Paddy Bradley | Trainer: Patrick Morris | Form: -73329 | Rating: 60 | Topspeed: 46
She is not the easiest mare to trust, but this is exactly the grade where she can outrun double-figure odds. The earlier sequence of 7-3-3-2 showed she can be competitive in weak races, and although last time was underwhelming, the return to this sort of contest from stall 2 could easily see her bounce back. Her topspeed figure of 46 stacks up perfectly well against these, and Paddy Bradley is the type to keep things simple from a handy draw around Wolverhampton. At 14/1 with Bet365, she makes plenty more appeal as an each-way punt than some shorter-priced rivals who have had more chances. Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Lady Of Clover is the win play in a race lacking depth, with her recent profile suggesting she is the most likely to run her race. For an each-way alternative, Lady Delila makes more appeal than the obvious ones at the prices. The main dangers are Sorted, who has the best recent 3yo form on paper, and Knightmare, another who should be thereabouts again.

20:00 – Cavani Classic Style Handicap (Div I)
Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This doesn’t look a deep Class 6 for the grade and, on paper, Zoulette sets the standard. She has the best mark in the field, arrives off a runner-up effort and has the look of one who should be winning this sort of race sooner rather than later. The question is whether she’s a backable favourite at a short price rather than whether she’s the most likely winner. South Coast Star is the obvious danger on ability, though his latest run leaves a bit to be desired, while Amazing Anita comes here in decent nick after going close and looks the one for punters wanting an each-way alternative. City Of Dreams and Thehunnebelllegacy have bits of form that give them a squeak, but this should mainly revolve around the market principals.
Top Selections
1. Zoulette – 11/8 with Paddy Power
Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: Ollie Sangster | Form: 63672 | Rating: 72 | Topspeed: 40
Zoulette is the one they all have to beat. She’s been knocking on the door in similar company, and that latest second suggested she’s ready to cash in now handicapping at this sort of level. A mark of 72 makes her the highest-rated runner in the field and, in a race lacking depth, that matters. Billy Loughnane is exactly the sort you want aboard around Wolverhampton, and this middle draw should give him options rather than force his hand. At 11/8 she’s not exactly hidden from the market, but she looks the solid one with the fewest questions to answer. Bet: WIN
Bet: WIN
2. Amazing Anita – 6/1 with Paddy Power
Jockey: Finley Marsh | Trainer: Max Comley | Form: 4-3592 | Rating: 68 | Topspeed: 51
Amazing Anita makes plenty of each-way appeal after her recent second, which was one of the better pieces of current form on offer in this line-up. She’s holding her form well, her mark of 68 is workable enough, and that Topspeed figure of 51 says she has the pace to be competitive if this turns into a proper 7f test. She doesn’t have quite the same upside as Zoulette, but she’s more than capable of hitting the frame and perhaps doing better if the favourite underperforms. Available at 6/1, she looks the value play for those wanting something at a fairer price. Bet: EACH-WAY
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Zoulette is the straight win play and, frankly, hard to oppose in a race of this nature. For an each-way punt, Amazing Anita looks the sensible alternative given her recent placed effort and solid enough figures. South Coast Star is the obvious danger if bouncing back, while City Of Dreams could nick a place if the race falls apart late.

20:30 – Cavani Classic Style Handicap (Div II)
Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This doesn’t look a deep Class 6 by any means, and the market has latched on to that. Based is the obvious one after shaping well on his handicap return and he sets the standard on a workable mark, while Musical Soldier brings a recent win and a solid Topspeed figure to the table for a yard that can place one well. Behind the front pair, it gets murkier. Electrocution has enough raw speed to get involved if bouncing back, and low-drawn Power Of Chora is the type to sneak into the frame if settling better than he has lately. Still, this feels like a race where the principals should dominate, and unless one of them underperforms badly, the winner is very likely already near the head of the betting.
Top Selections
1. Based – 6/5 with Bet365
Jockey: Cieren Fallon | Trainer: William Knight | Form: 078-27 | Rating: 65 | Topspeed: 59
He looks the solid one. Based returned from a break with a promising second before failing to build on it last time, but that latest run is easy enough to forgive in a race lacking depth like this. His mark of 65 does not look harsh for a 3yo in a Class 6, and his Topspeed figure of 59 is among the better efforts on offer here. Cieren Fallon is a positive booking in this grade and William Knight’s runner has the profile of one who should be capable of better than he has shown so far. At 6/5 he is hardly a hidden gem, but he is still hard to oppose.
Bet: WIN
2. Power Of Chora – 17/2 with Bet365
Jockey: Andrea Pinna | Trainer: Joey Ramsden | Form: 57-86 | Rating: 63 | Topspeed: 46
For an each-way angle, Power Of Chora makes more appeal than most in the second rank. He hasn’t done enough yet to scream winner, but stall 1 could be useful around here and this mark of 63 gives him a fighting chance if he can take a step forward from his latest two runs. The bare form is only fair, but this is not the sort of contest where you need to be a world-beater, just reliable enough to hold a position and keep on. At 17/2 with Bet365, he looks a fair each-way punt in a race where several of the outsiders have already exposed their limitations.
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Keep it straightforward: Based is the win bet and the one with the fewest questions to answer. For a bit of value, Power Of Chora is the each-way play at a workable price from a good inside draw. Musical Soldier is the obvious danger if repeating his recent winning effort, while Electrocution could outrun his odds if rediscovering earlier spark.

21:00 – Race And Rest At The Holiday Inn Handicap
Race Details: 1m 1f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Tapeta) | | flat
This looks a proper Wolverhampton puzzle rather than a race to get carried away with. A few arrive with solid recent figures but there is very little between them on official ratings, with Study Up, Beachborough Girl and Age Of Time all clustered around the same mark, while Silkies Sib keeps knocking on the door without getting his head back in front. Arlecchino’s Rex is interesting from a low weight after a string of respectable efforts, and Roman Secret has the inside draw if bouncing back from a lesser run. In truth, this may be decided by who gets the cleanest trip and who settles best over this 1m1f. In a race full of exposed handicappers, I’m inclined to side with consistency and a workable mark rather than chase something speculative.
Top Selections
1. Arlecchino’s Rex
Jockey: Robert Havlin | Trainer: Mark Usher | Form: 513323 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed: 63
He makes plenty of appeal in a race where most have had their chances. That recent sequence reads well for this level, and the latest third suggests he is still holding his form rather than going over the top. Off 71 he is hardly thrown in, but he has a likeable profile for a Class 6 at this venue: runs his race, handles this sort of company and doesn’t need everything to fall perfectly. Robert Havlin is a notable booking in this grade and from stall 5 he should get a sensible position. Plenty will fancy the obvious ones, but Arlecchino’s Rex looks the one with the fewest holes.
Bet: WIN
2. Age Of Time – 17/2 with Bet365
Jockey: Nicola Currie | Trainer: Steph Hollinshead | Form: 423235 | Rating: 72 | Topspeed: 59
If you want an each-way play in a 12-runner handicap, this is the sort I like. Age Of Time has been threatening to pick one up for a while and the form figures tell a clear story: reliable, competitive and usually thereabouts. He is not especially well treated off 72, but he keeps running to that level and draw 3 should help Nicola Currie hold a handy spot without burning petrol. At 17/2 he looks a fair bit more attractive than some shorter-priced rivals with similarly exposed profiles. You know he will need a bit of luck and a well-timed ride, but he has solid place claims again.
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Arlecchino’s Rex is the win play in a race lacking much upside, simply because he comes here in the steadiest form and has a handy racing weight. Age Of Time is the each-way alternative at 17/2, with four places on offer making obvious appeal. The main dangers look to be Study Up after that recent win and the frustratingly consistent Silkies Sib, who won’t be far away again.
