Horse racing continues to fight against extreme heat throughout the country, with Friday’s cards spread throughout the morning, afternoon and evening.
GG tipster Joe Napier has picked out our lucky 15 tips for throughout the day. He ahs two selections apiece from Yarmouth and Newcastle.
Yarmouth Racing Tips (Friday 26 June)
Yarmouth’s is one of two cards moved to the morning to combat heat on Friday. We have two tips, in handicap and classified comapny.
11.30 Yarmouth – Ya Karim (1pt win – 3/1)
Harry Charlton’s yard may be about to charge into form given recent results. They nearly ended a quiet Royal Ascot, at which they had only two runners, on a high when Completely Random was a fast finishing second in the Wokingham. Since then, Charlton has sent out two well-backed odds-on favourites to win well. As such, Ya Karim looks a good bet to continue the momentum. The son of Ghaiyyath won over 7f at this track as a juvenile after finishing third to Dante winner Item on debut. He was disappointing return over this distance here, but the hood that was applied that day has since been removed and he has also been gelded. Both steps looked to have an effect when he was third at Kempton last month. He was third to Lord Britain that day, conceding him 4lb. That winner has since run a screamer in the St James’s Palace Stakes, so a mark of 82 may be well below what the selection is ultimately capable of.
12.00 Yarmouth – Raise The Stakes (1pt win – 2/1)
Were he running in a normal race of this level last time out, Raise The Stakes would be off the mark. Instead, William Knight’s charge bumped into Rockafellar Skank, Richard Spencer’s gelding who was well-placed to win four Classified races in the space of eight days. The handicapper now rates him at 73, miles above the upper limit for such races. Raise The Stakes made a game attempt against him, but like most at this level, saw that rival sweep away. That is no disgrace through and he was a clear second, which is career best form. None of his opponents are likely to be hiding away form of that level here. As long as he is in the same form himself eight days on, he should win in this company soon.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Friday 26 June)
Newcastle hosts Pattern race action on Friday evening, with one of our tips running in the Group 3 Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes.
6.53 Newcastle – Diamond Rain (1pt win – 5/6)
Last year’s winner Diamond Rain looks very well placed to defend her title. This race in 2025 saw her win her fourth race from just six starts. She subsequently placed twice in Grade 1 company in the United States and ran respectably back in England recently. She was third to See The Fire in the Group 2 Middleton Fillies’ Stakes. That venue has always suited the winner well, so there is confidence to be gained from Diamond Rain’s effort. She easily dealt with this all-weather surface a year ago and is the class horse by some distance. Were Charlie Appleby having a slightly better season, she would be even shorter.
7.28 Newcastle – Seven Questions (1pt win – 9/1)
It is worth forgiving former Group 3 winner Seven Questions his effort at Goodwood last time out. The son of Kodiac had drifted 19lb down the handicap in a little over a year since joining Robert Cowell. He finally slipped to too generous a rating, winning over 5f at the aforementioned Sussex track. Jamie Spencer delivered him very late that day, but he can win again now he is back in form. 6f on soft ground clearly did not suit at the start of this month. However, the handicapper has let him back down 1lb, to just 2lb above his last winning mark. His only other all-weather run was a Group 3 second as a juvenile behind a subsequent top level scorer. A return to artificial surfaces can deliver a sixth career win.
