York Racing Tips (Friday 15 May)
The final day of the Dante meeting at York takes place on Friday. We have three tips on the Knavesmire as part of our lucky 15.
2.20 York – Pacific Mission (1pt win – 7/2)
Ombudsman’s sister Synchronicity has obvious potential to rate very highly. However, once-raced fillies do not have a strong winning record in this contest. Similarly, there is a horse in the field with top-class form already in Pacific Mission. The daughter of Lope De Vega was high class as a juvenile. She was second in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster before a superb effort to be runner-up at the Breeders’ Cup. She finished off her race very strongly, hinting at the stamina in her pedigree. 1m may prove short enough for her, but she is classy and should be favourite on form. A strongly run race can suit from an ideal draw.
3.30 York – Love A Giggle (1pt win – 16/1)
She has drifted since the betting for this race opened, but Love A Giggle is of interest. She must have impressed in her early work to go from a E38,000 purchase as a foal to a 130,000gns buy as a yearling. Her dam won over 5f as a juvenile, showing she is from speedy and precocious stock. Some of that was demonstrated when winning on debut at Southwell in a four-runner contest. That win means little on form, but she did so without making all. So many of her rivals did make all for their victories, which could lead to a very strongly-run race. She also beat the runner-up further than Lover Girl had done on debut, so her form matches up with her rivals. Karl Burke’s form has drifted recently, but his juveniles should warm up for Royal Ascot about now. This horse can be one of those.
4.05 York – Epic Poet (1pt win – 5/1)
Only two four-year-olds have won the Yorkshire Cup since 2016. Amiloc and St Leger runner-up Rahiebb are respected, but Epic Poet’s experience may tell. The seven-year-old needs hings to go his way as a traditionally held-up horse. However, he ran well in the Middle East throughout the winter, form which, in 2025, paved the way for his game second-placed effort in this race last season. He was beaten by top-class globetrotter Rebel’s Romance that day. With respect to his rivals, there does not appear to be a horse of that quality in the 2026 renewal. Epic Poet went down by just a head too, in receipt of 5lb. A Group race breakthrough is well within his range at this exact trip.
Newmarket Racing Tips (Friday 15 May)
Newmarket go racing on both Friday and Saturday. For the first of their two cards, we have a tip in the penultimate contest.
4.53 Newmarket – We’re Goosers (1pt win – 4/5)
With form on turf not a given for some of his rivals, the fitness of We’re Goosers could be important. Hugo Palmer’s runner ran in some good races as a juvenile, competing with some well-bred types. Two seconds preceded a win at Newcastle on the all-weather. He had been a neck second on turf at Newmarket on debut though. He returned with a sixth-placed effort back at HQ on return, where he led late on over 1m only to get collared. He was only beaten a length-and-a-half though and races off the same rating. Stepping back to 7f should be ideal for the son of Group 1-winning sprinter Starman.
