It remains all about the Ebor meeting at York on Thursday. Seven meetings go to post, but the premier action is all aboard the Knavesmire.
Andrew Mount has stuck to the racing at York for his Thursday best bets. He has three tips for you to follow.
York Racing Tips (Thursday 20 August 2026)
Andrew has three selections on the Yorkshire Oaks card on Thursday, including a course winner in the feature contest.
3.35 York – Legacy Link (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 William Hill, 12/1 generally)
Kalpana could have done without the recent rain ahead of her run in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks and I’m taking her on with Legacy Link. Whether it was the very fast ground, the Ascot track, her stall 1 draw or a combination of all three that led to her disappointing seventh of 12 in the Ribblesdale, it was a run that can be forgiven. John and Thady Gosden’s Dubawi filly has form figures on officially good or softer going of 1412 (2-4), with the fourth place to Precise when 9-1 for last season’s Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket and the runner-up effort behind Thundering On in the Oaks at Epsom. The classic generation have provided the winner of this race in eight of the past ten seasons and she’s 1-1 at today’s venue.
4.10 York – A La Prochaine (1pt win – 11/2 generally)
With rain forecast on Thursday morning on ground that was riding good to soft (according to Proform) on Wednesday, conditions could be ideal for A La Prochaine by the time they go to post for the 1m4f Listed Galtres Stakes. Ralph Beckett’s daughter of Lope De Vega overcame obvious signs of inexperience to land a soft-ground one-mile fillies’ novice contest at Newbury last October on her sole juvenile outing and she was still green when a 12-1 third to Amelia Earhart in the Cheshire Oaks, missing the break before keeping on well to finish three lengths behind the winner. She seemed ill at ease on the track when a 22-1 fourth in the Oaks at Epsom, still looking as though the experience would bring her on, and this more conventional track should suit.
4.45 York – Soldier Of The Sea (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 bet365, 12/1 generally)
This 7f nursery has only been part of York’s Ebor meeting for six years and five winners (including the last five) were making their handicap debut on the back of a top-three effort and had travelled more than 150 miles from their training base. Backing all 26 qualifiers returned a profit of £11.33 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£21.04 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 2.57, A/E = 1.95). All five winners were ranked between second and sixth in the weights and Solider Of The Sea, number five on the racecard, qualifies on all fronts. William Knight’s colt overcame a slow start and trouble in running to score at Ffos Las on his debut and his subsequent Salisbury second to Gentle Hurricane was franked when the winner, to whom he was conceding 7lb, ran second in the Acomb Stakes at York on Wednesday.
