York Racing Tips - Joe Napier's Lucky 15 Tips for Sunday 6 September

The week rounds out with just two race meetings in Britain. Fontwell go over jumps, but it is York’s flat card which looks the most enticing, with Listed action and some high class handicaps.

GG tipster Joe Napier sticks to the flat with our last lucky 15 of the week. All four of his tips run at York in the afternoon.

York Racing Tips (Sunday 6 September)

The Listed Garrowby Stakes is the feature at York on Sunday, but the Knavesmire’s card is competitive from start to finish. All four of our Sunday lucky 15 tips run at the track.

2.40 York – High Fibre (1pt win – )

James Owen has transformed the fortunes of a good few horses and High Fibre is another going the right way. Third on his stable debut at York over 1m4f, he returned to hurdling to win Market Rasen’s Summer Handicap Hurdle in class 2 company. That was a good performance in a first-time visor and was backed up with victory on the flat over 2m at Newmarket. That July Course success saw him have to work hard to beat the opposing Percy Shelley. However, the pair pulled more than seven lengths clear of the remainder. The selection is only up 5lb and can confirm that form with the runner-up even on 3lb worse terms with him.

3.15 York – Besieged (1pt win – )

The unexposed three-year-old Besieged boasts comfortably the most alluring profile in this 17-runner line-up. This is sure to be competitive given the field size, but the won of Dubawi a;ready looks set to deliver on the promise of his pedigree. He is out of Group 1 winner Snow Lantern and has run well on all three starts, finishing runner-up to two useful rivals in successive maidens at Kempton and Newbury in the spring. He eventually justified 4/9 favouritism at the third attempt at Salisbury. That was no ordinary victory though as he scooted clear to win by 14 lengths. He was entitled to win the race well, but he did it in some style. Soft ground should pose no threat on that evidence and he can win this off an opening mark of 93.

15:15 Saltmoore Collection Handicap (GBBPlus Race)

3.50 York – Double Rush (1pt win – )

The step up to Group 1 company happened too quickly for Double Rush in the July Cup. That said, he had been so progressive for Andrew Balding previously that Listed honours still look well within reach. The Blue Point colt won three in a row to begin this campaign, all in handicap company. They contributed to him going up 20lb in total though, with him winning the Wokingham at Royal Ascot to cap off a sensational few months. His revised mark of 110 ensured Pattern company awaited. The July Cup was too hot, but this race is much easier down in grade. He has won on good-to-soft and is drawn well in stall 3 to boot.

15:50 Starman At Tally Ho Stud Garrowby Stakes (Listed Race)

4.25 York – Houquetot (1pt win – )

Houquetot was a Victoria Cup entry earlier this season on what would have been his debut for James Owen. He was ultimately a non-runner then, but the ex-French trained four-year-old is of interest after his first two runs in this country. He was mid-pack at Newbury over 1m in May, then finished fourth of ten on the July Course two months ago. Neither of those were spectacular efforts, but the handicapper has been very kind, dropping him 6lb in total. Similarly, the form of his Newmarket run could not have worked out better, the winner claiming the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon since. Houquetot only faded in the final furlong that day, but does clearly stay this far on French evidence. He should also appreciate cut in the surface for the first time since racing on these shores. The son of Wootton Bassett could prove another Owen gets right.
