There are eight meetings taking place on Saturday, with three of those hosting races on ITV. Sandown and York host Listed races, both of which could give hints to bigger contests further down the line.
GG tipster Joe Napier has our lucky 15 tips for Saturday. He has two tips each from those pair of meetings.
York Racing Tips (Saturday 13 June)
The Listed Ebor Grand Cup is a strong staying contest at York on Saturday. Joe has a tip for that race, as well as the preceding handicap.
2.25 York – Aalto (1pt win – 5/1)
The unbeaten and unexposed Extremely Zain could be anything. However, Ryan Moore is a very eyecatching jockey booking aboard Aalto for Ian Williams. He won second time out for the season in both of his first two campaigns and nearly did so last term at odds of 40/1. He was second in the Bunbury Cup last season, beaten a nose by More Thunder. That horse is now currently third favourite for the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes and has won a Group 2 since. The fact Aalto pushed him so close, and only in receipt of 6lb, shows how dangerous he can be. He is now 5lb lower in the handicap having lost his form since. He was ninth of 28 in the Victoria Cup on return though, an encouraging enough effort given what else appears to be in his favour.
3.00 York – Gregory (1pt win – 6/1)
A chance is taken on the long absent Gregory, who is probably the most talented horse in this race. John & Thady Gosden’s charge won his first three career starts, going off favourite for the Great Voltigeur Stakes thereafter. He has failed to quite kick on since. However, he was still third in the 2024 Yorkshire Cup, Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup over staying trips. He finished ahead of this race’s current favourite, Al Qareem, in the first two of those. That was off level weights, whereas he now gets 5lb from that rival. His 476-day absence has to be a concern, but it is more than factored into his price. He won on debut, and his Yorkshire Cup effort was first time out. As such, he could be capable of returning from a layoff in fine fettle.
Sandown Racing Tips (Saturday 13 June)
Sandown’s card on Saturday features the Listed Scurry Stakes. Joe has a selection in that sprint contest, as well as one other.
2.42 Sandown – Military Code (1pt win – 4/1)
With William Buick occupied at York, Godolphin’s main jockey is not present for this Listed sprint. Oisin Murphy is probably the number one here in his absence, but is not necessarily clear in the owners’ pecking order from Billy Loughnane. As such, the bookings for the Scurry Stakes cannot be overly read into and on form, Military Code could be a big danger to stablemate Words Of Truth in receipt of 5lb. The latter has exclusively raced at 6f and has to prove himself at the minimum trip. He is bred for further, whereas the selection has demonstrated swift pace at 5f. He has won twice at the trip, been second at Listed level twice by just a head, including over track and trip, and may be too fleet of foot for the opposition. He won on debut, so a lack of match practice is not a concern.
3.17 Sandown – Raammee (1pt win – 4/1)
Raammee is a similar type to impressive Epsom winner Sallaal for Roger Varian. Though he is unlikely to provide as dominant a success, he could be just as much of a springer in the handicap. He won both starts at three after a belated debut last August. His half-length success on debut came despite greenness, but he subsequently scored by 12 lengths at Newcastle. He was 1/9 to win that day, but the margin was still supreme. His turf debut came on return after 262 days off, and he could only finish fourth of seven over course and distance. He could easily have needed that run though. Both wins came on the all-weather, but it feels unlikely that turf will prove an issue in time. Should he improve for an outing in a similar way to his stablemate, he should have every chance here.
