Wetherby Racing Tips (Tuesday 17 March 2026)
Six National Hunt races take place at Wetherby on Tuesday, with a 2.02pm start. Andrew’s best bet on the card lines up in the 2.37pm contest.
2.37 Wetherby – Rath Gaul Hill (1pt win – 3/1 bet365, 11/4 generally)
Geryville will be popular in this Class 4 handicap chase having made all over course and distance in Class 3 company when last seen but the drying ground and 54-day absence are not ideal. Micky Hammond’s ten-year-old could taken on for the lead if pacesetting is again the plan and it’s also interesting to note that he’s 0-7 at today’s class level, suggesting that he’s happier getting weight from rivals in a better race. I’d rather take a chance on spring horse Rath Gaul Hill, now that Sean Bowen rides for the first time. Sam Drinkwater’s eight-year-old disappointed at Newbury last time, finishing last of four, but usually runs well at this time of year, with three of his four wins between February 28th and April 19th.
Down Royal Racing Tips (Tuesday 17 March 2026)
A quality jumping card takes place in Northern Ireland at Down Royal, with Andrew’s nap of the day lining up in the 4.13pm race.
4.13 Down Royal – Ayiko (1pt e/w – 5/1 Betway, Paddy Power, 9/2 generally)
It was a big advantage to race up with the pace in the 3m handicap chase won by Sound And Fury at Carlisle on February 16th, with the first three finishers described by the Racing Post as “pressed leader”, “led but pestered” and “pressed leader, led 10th”. The Stuart Crawford-trained Ayiko, sent off as the 100-30 favourite, caught the eye in a four-and-a-half-length fourth, doing best of those to come from the rear and not quite seeing out the trip on the stiff track. Today’s cut back to an extended 2m4f will suit and he now has form figures since fitted with a tongue-tie of 53213U24 (1-8), with the fifth place when 50-1 for a 20-runner maiden hurdle.
