Willie Mullins heads into the penultimate day of the Listowel Harvest Festival with six runners on the card, after a week in which his stable has already supplied nine winners at the County Kerry track.
The trainer’s entries are spread across five of Friday’s eight races, beginning with Reaching High in the John J. Galvin Maiden Hurdle at 1.40pm. The five-year-old is partnered by Paul Townend after finishing second on his hurdling debut at Killarney in August.
Two runners in the Listed hurdle
Mullins has two runners in the Ballymore Handicap Hurdle, the Listed contest at 3.25pm. Venusienne, ridden by Harry Cobden for JP McManus, won a mares’ handicap hurdle at Galway in July and arrives after a win and a third in her two most recent completed starts. Charlie O’Dwyer rides Speed For Fun, who was second on each of his two latest completed starts at Tramore and Kilbeggan.
The pair are among 17 entries in the Listed hurdle, which is staged over the same course and distance as the preceding 2.50pm handicap hurdle.
Later Mullins runners
Danny Mullins rides Drop A Threat in the Paud, Sarah & Mary Fitzmaurice Memorial Handicap Chase at 4.30pm. The seven-year-old was second in a Galway handicap chase in August and has run twice since.
Killeedy lines up in the Shanahan Power Irish EBF Mares (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at 5.05pm, with son Patrick Mullins aboard. The mare finished fourth at Killarney in July and fifth at Kilbeggan earlier this month.
Patrick is also named on Davy Crockett in the closing Listowel Races Supporters Club Failte Abhaile race at 5.40pm. Davy Crockett was awarded a Tramore maiden in August after initially finishing second, and this will be his first start since then.
Festival record so far
Mullins’ nine Listowel winners this week include Love Me Tender twice: first in a maiden hurdle on Tuesday and then in a beginners’ chase on Wednesday. Run Ted Run, Ocastle Des Mottes, Green Hint, Ballygunner Castle, La Note Verte, Al Arrivee and Berkstar make up the other seven wins.
Friday’s Listowel card is currently shown as good, good to yielding in places, with watering reported by the course.
