Andrew Mount’s Daily Racing Preview – Navan & Worcester Racing Analysis for Wednesday 21 October

Five tracks go racing in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with jumps action at Worcester and Fontwell alongside the flat at Newmarket and Navan before Kempton takes over under the lights.

Andrew Mount has two tips for today’s racing, where he has a big-priced pick in the 1.32pm at Navan, whilst he has a 2pts win selection in the 1.40pm at Worcester.

1.32 Navan – Step Back In Time (0.5pt e/w – 18/1 bet365, 16/1 Betfred, Coral)

Coincidental Glory heads the betting for this 6f handicap on the strength of his course and distance runner-up effort on October 7th and a Curragh third placing eight days later. However, he’s won just once from 25 starts (albeit those include a 0-19 all-weather record) and the second place at this venue flattered him as there was a massive high draw bias that day.

Of greater interest is the eighth from that race, Step Back In Time, who did well to finish so close as he raced alone on the far side rail from stall 1 of 22. Chris Timmons’ veteran looks better berthed in stall 14 this time around and his course record in Class 5 or lower company, when returned to the track within 28 days of his latest outing, stands at 1083161310 (4-10).

1.40 Worcester – Talk To The Man (2pts win – 15/8 bet365, Hills)

The decline of the Paul Nicholls yard and the rise of Dan Skelton has been a feature of the British jumps game in recent seasons and the gulf between the two trainers was highlighted when the ex-Nicholls Captain Teague landed a punt (7-2 from 10-1) in a Listed contest at Ffos Las recently on his debut for Skelton, beating the odds-on Nicholls-trained Tutti Quanti, into second place.

Since the beginning of 2025, backing horses aged eight or younger who had switched from Nicholls, won nine of their 25 starts on their first go for their new trainers for a profit of £15.51 at SP. Talk To The Moon, who like Captain Teague sports the Johnny de la Hey colours and has also made the switch from Nicholls to Skelton this term, is likely to take high order in the novice chase scene and can start his campaign over fences by taking this beginners’ contest.

This Walk In The Park six-year-old was pulled up on his latest start but that was in Grade 1 company at Aintree, and this point winner looks to hold solid claims despite needing to improve on the clock. Main market rival Scorpio Rising is likely to be ridden patiently whereas Talk To The Moon will surely go from the front under Harry Skelton.
